Flamma was probably the greatest gladiator in history - he was offered his freedom four times for his outstanding performance in the arena, though he only fought a total of 21 combats, and lost 4 of them. (Contrary to the show, a gladiator only had about a ten percent chance of being killed in the arena, unless it was a special bout to the death). The most famous fight, however, was between Priscus and Verus, who were the very first act in the new Colliseum. They were so well matched they fought literally for hours. Eventually they were so exhausted they each threw down their weapons and surrendered to each other. Both were given their freedom for the outstanding performance.
Great comment, thank you for the history lesson :)
Lmao Flamma was a Syrian , remind me of a certain snake in the show :D
Flamma actually fought 34 times. He won 21 of his fights.
@@DeltaArc1136 Well there ya go then.
these gladiators were so brainwashed into thinking it's honorable to fight for the amusement of others they actually turned down offers of freedom? sounds a lot like people today that are fooled into surrendering their freedoms with these fake disasters, believing it's for their own good. for every fake disaster the solution is always the same, to give those in power yet more power over us. such a simple pattern yet so few can actually see it.
Imagine Spartacus, Gannicus, and Crixxus fighting together.....2 more seasons BRO!!!
Gannicus is a "dimachaerus" - a gladiator who fights with two swords. Crixus trains as a "myrmillo" who fights with sword and shield. Many of the other types of gladiators are explained this season.
I never saw pronunciation of ''myrmillo'' I know it under the name ''murmillo''. Btw. not much is explained about the styles of gladiators in Spartacus series, I remember only murmillo, retiarius and dimachaerus being mentioned.
@@fanta4897 I can't remember if they mentioned the "Thraex" (Thracian) in Blood and Sand. They fought with a curved blade native to the Eastern Mediterranean called a Sicga. Jewish zealots and insurgents who used them were called "sicarii" - the origin of the modern day "sicario" - "hit man".
@@andrewcharles459 Unless something was lost in translation from english to czech, then thraex wasn't mentioned. I remember only brief mention that Spartacus will fight in the same style as Theokoles with no particular name being mentioned. And in Vengeance it was mentioned that Spartacus fights in the style of dimachaerus.
@@fanta4897 Thraex is mentioned quite a bit.
@@fanta4897 Don't forget samnite and hoplomachus. Probably some I'm forgetting too.
Hit the like everybody! Who else is reacting to this series and honestly who else could possibly have as good of reactions to this, nobody.
Legend mate! Appreciate the love ❤️
Omg Ash’s face when he realized Gannicus & Melita liked it 🤨😳😏 it was priceless 🤣🤣
Edit: Doctore told Spartacus his wife died when he drugged him to try to escape with his wife. & yes this moves fast cause it’s only 6 episodes & they all are intense!!! Wait til you get to season 2 it really picks up
For all the characters you love in this show and the ones you've yet to meet, you NEED to see the show through to it's finale. So emotional and gripping and the fights and character arcs/bonds are amazing. Hands down one of my favourite tv shows from start to finish 😊 love watching you go through the same emotions I did the first time. Will be watching every single one you upload bud! 😀💪
Both Gannicus and Spartacus two-sword fighting style is Dimachaerus. Faster more agile based fighting style where one sword points up and one points down.
For me as a german speaker, the british accent sounds very noble and classy^^ so it fits perfectly for the romans
I wish they did it in Latin, there’s a german tv show that I like I can’t remember the name but it’s some viking/barbarian show against the romans and the actors who play the romans speak latin (a decent version but still)
@@kevinprzy4539 "Die Barbaren" yea saw that too^^
@@ShishaSwiss I’m from the US and I had the choice to learn german, french or spanish so I chose spanish because of how many spanish speakers live in the US but that show made me want to go back in time and learn German so I didn’t have to read the subtitles because I hate dubs 😂
@@kevinprzy4539 learn it now^^
Well....
I suppose as a German speaker..
Witch, doesn't sound much different than torturing a duck, while aggressively shaking a tin can filled with gravel... It might sound a bit more classy^^ and noble....?...😂🤣😂🤣💯
🍻🍺cheers..✌
The actor who played the original Doctore is a fixture in the Star Wars universe; this episode also shows what Batiatus is willing to do to accomplish his goals, no matter the cost
Wait... is that Boba Fett?!
@@marky-mark713, he plays Jango Fett, the Clone troopers and the adult Boba Fett
Yup Gannicus gives Crixus some advice is a Legendary moment in the series "There is only one way to become Champion never fn Lose" Remember what Crixus name in Blood and Sand ;) and You start to see hints of Future Crixus but Gannicus shuts that down 🤣⚔️ Dimacherus is what Spartacus style he fought in Same as Gannicus 👍 And Yes Asher aka Nick got jacked in order for this he went beside Gladiator boot camp he did a Millitary training as well ✅ Always look forward to seeing your reaction to this Amazing series Spartacus 👏 Thanks for the love man my friend's put a lot of sweat and tears into it🙏
Mate I would love to chat with you one day! Your knowledge and passion is insane! Appreciate you my brother ❤️
@@justtrustash I'd be Honored to man🙏 I will send you some stuff from the show lol after you watch certain episodes 💯 I got a lot of props and set pictures of Us so hellz yes 🤘
@@justtrustash Look up the Gladiator boot camp featurettes for the first two seasons.
About greatest gladiator i would say either Flamma with 21 wins, 9 draws and 4 losses or Carpophorus who was famous for fighting against beasts like lions, panthers, bears... he once killed 20 beasts in single day!!! However we dont have a lot of records about specific gladiators so there could be some legends that we dont even know about. Even Spartacus first time appears in history with revolt and not in arena so we have no idea about his skill there. He and Crixus were definetiley very respected tho since they were elected as leaders of revolt by other gladiators:)
I watched this whole series when it came out ,really happy to see you react to it.✌🏼
Cheers tony ❤️
Another great reaction to a fantastic series.
Only 6 episodes, so no filler, no wasted time, just action and character development.
Inject it into my veins!
Cheers my brother ❤️
The best line is "BRO! This is episode TWO!" 🤣🤣🤣
the gladiator Flamma is often mentioned as the best, fought in the colosseum 34 times, winning 21 of his fights, get a draw 9 times and lost 4 times, but Spartacus is clearly the most famous
Narcissus might be considered the greatest gladiator of all time.however what Spartacus did to inspire others and show rome is not all powerful meant more for history then what narcissus ever achieved.
The playing the old doctorei is the same guy who plays Bobba Fett in star wars.
That exercise is to build leg strength and endurance, and the extra weight will probably get their feet used to fighting on the sands of the arena. I think those exerciss we're used for the recruits, in order to weed out the weak before the final test.
I fucking love the Gannicus VS Crixus scene so much. It was so unexpected and fun for us as the audience because we all know exactly who Crixus is and what he can do which makes it all the more funny that Gannicus finds the whole thing hilarious. "The gods have heard you! They give you opportunity to become champion!" At this point Crixus is a sword yet to be forged but he is still a blunt instrument that can part your brains from your skull. Gannicus quickly realizes this and he's not dumb, he knows when to dick around and when not to and you don't dick around with the future undefeated gaul.
Im really happy you are reacting to spartacus bro, its one of the best series I have ever watched and it deserves more praise from people. Its a masterpiece and apart from you, not many out there are reacting to it, so good Job man! Keep it up ash ur doing great work
Appreciate the support Erik!! Thank you ❤️
@@justtrustash No problem mate, have also subscriped to your patreon now:)
The show that keeps on giving, thanks Ash
The character build up in this season is phenomenal. It helps paint different pictures of the characters, shows how they became the people they were before Spartacus arrived. Most importantly, though, how the events of this season will impact things in the future.
Greatest show ever and your reactions makes it so much better 🔥🔥
The doctore before Anemeus, picked the fight so he could die as a gladiator, instead of just being put out to pasture. Excellent episode!
More spartacus bro! love seeing u react to it!
ANOTHER BANGER MATE!!!!!!! 🔥
Spartacus was the greatest Gladiator in the arena
Oh hell, this is one of those shows that I smash the "like" button before I even watch it.
You legend ❤️
THE KING IS BACK!! What’s up my brother how’s life treating ya across the pond?
All good my G, just reducing my hours at work to help be more consistent! How’s it going with you mate?
Th actor who plays the current Doctore (older actor) is the actor who plays Boba Fett and Jango Fett in the OG Star Wars movies as well as he appeared in the second season Mandalorian again as Boba Fett and there is gonna be The Book of Boba Fett show starting Dec 29th focused around him.
Well Ash as you can see the show just keeps getting better an better an I promise man its just gonna continue getting better in everyway one of the most underrated shows every but easily one of the greatest series every
Gannicus is probably my favorite character in the entire show you have to keep watching my guy trust me.
He's probably mine as well.... Spartacus 2 or i'd say 1A and 1B.
They don't have time for solely introduction. 6 episodes and that's it. They have to be filled of action, intrigues, unpredictable, very compact in all of these...and they are.
Can't wait to see ya watch this season. It's short but legendary!!
Lol the only other reactor I’ve seen on YT doing Spartacus is also on the same episode as you & he also called Gannicus HBK! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 can’t wait for more!!
Thanks the Olympians for spreading heavens open and blessing us with a fucking awesome reaction by Ash.
Your reaction to Gannicus having to prove his words was PRICELESS!
Great React! These last 4 episodes are going to be fun. Cheers!
You need to watch the other season and you’ll see what you want them all together trust me ash you won’t be disappointed I’m the same as you love tv series but Spartacus is the best I’ve ever seen
I literally was looking for a specific accent to watch this just because i knew it would set up the ambiance for this raw intense and well made amazing show!!
The greatest gladiator ever is a very debatable topic...
Spartacus is considered one of them, definitely the most famous one.
Tigris "the undefeated" of Gaul is another.
Highly likely who they based Crixus of.
Then there was another who i dont remember the name, it transleted to "xxxx - the fire born" or "xxxx of flame".
Supposedly the fiercest fighter to ever set foot in the Arena.
Thoughty2 bought him up in his "Greatest Warriors who ever lived" video
New Favorite reactor....When's the next reaction coming ??....U have so many more laughs and cry's coming Bro....Can't wait !!
No wonder they were Gods of the Arena, they have Boba Fett as their Doctore.
Episode is lit 💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥❗
Cant wait for you to put out War of the Damned!! We get a Spartacus vs Gannikus fight 😍😍
Having fought in armor for years I can say using 2 swords requires an amazing amount of skill. Sword and shield is where everyone begins normally before moving on to a more specialized style. As others said gladiators were the elite athletes of their day and had fan clubs, pimped products and some made a good living fighting. You did get it right about holding your weapons low showing disdain for your opponent. Have to admit I did it fairly often after years of training because it intimidated the other guys.
a big like and a coment for you Ash! love your reactions of spartacus your the best!
Love you mate, thank you ❤️
This series is on another level everyone I’ve turned on to it have loved it thanks Ash really enjoying revisiting Spartacus through your eyes!
That exercise builds strong legs. Those wood beams weight like 30kg.
Wonderful reaction, love what you are doing bro.
Legend, appreciate it mate ❤️
Liked even before watching :D best series
Contrary to popular belief most gladiator fights didn't result in death, usually only 10-20% of gladiators died in the arena because they represent an high financial value to people investing in them.
Funnily enough most of the "British" actors are from New Zealand and Australia
great show! great reaction bro!
They say the emperor Commodus had over 400 wins in the arena, they were all fixed though.
Bro the twist and turns coming are gonna drive you insane!! 🤣🤣🤣 Everything is not what they seem..🤐🤐🤐🤐
😃👍🏼 this episode was Wow 😳 lol
I just rewatched it few weeks ago. Amazing episode. And from what I saw, it resulted in good reaction as well. Btw. when it comes to your impression about british accents, yes, it has often been used either as sexy accent or villain accent... I'd suggest thinking about why that is.
I’ve liked every single video dawg cmon now 😂
Hahaha I know my brother ❤️
I need more spartacus in my veins!! plz
epi 3??
Don't mess with Batiatus. Bro I love your reaction to sbas and sgota. So underrated as a show. If you like scheming intregue plots and twists you must much watch the series The tudors. About Henry the 8th. With Jonathan rhese myres Natalie dormer and Henry cavil.
Gannicus style is two swords, crixus is memilo, sword and shield, others use a spear and buckler, others spear and net, etc. Fight how you're trained I suppose is what I'm saying.
It's kinda sad that no other channels reacted to this show. Good on you mate love your reactions to this show. Btw their are no filler episodes in Gods of the Arena.
I think that a few are, but I feel like Ash got the ball rolling recently.
I forgot Boba Fett was in this episode;)
Well, I DID tell you it only gets better from here, didn't I? Btw, you probably already know this, but the guy that played old, white Doctore was Temura Morrison. AKA Boba Fett!! Amazing reaction as always bro. Also, the look of your eyes practically popping out of your skull when the Roman dude picked Onemous' wife literally made me laugh out loud. Despite the fact that it was a pretty fucked up situation. Can't wait for your next reaction bro.
Morrison is also Maori. Once Were Warriors was one movie that he did a while back.
"Imaging seeing Gannicus, Crixus, Spartacus all together fighting...."
Yes, that's what's known as Season 2 (&3).
But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Pace yourself.
*Yeah all the sex, fetishes and skimming in the Roman Era was also the Golden Age of Sex*
The phallus of Jupiter
Yes quality reaction keep them coming brother wait till you see war of the damend
Always leave a like and a comment brother 👌
Some of the training, while it develops the body, it is more geared toward the acceptance of pain and suffering. To push through terrible pain and doubt and torment. Building them psychologically as well as physically. Carrying a 100 pound chunk of wood on your shoulders in a circle. The pointlessness of it is almost the point itself. Besides that it would obviously build stamina and your legs like a motherfucker.
Are you going to finish the show and watch the final 2 seasons?
Glad to see you’re enjoying this so much. I’m excited to see your reaction to the rest of this show.
"Gods of the Arena" prequel is (if not better) at least equal with "Blood and Sand". Every episode is just amazing.
Wish I could give you a million likes
Ash! What do you think about reacting to Arcane on Netflix? Also love your reactions mate! Been watching you since you released your 300 reaction. You’re literally now my favourite reactor on YT. You keep choosing some of my all time favourite movies/shows to react to!
Bro watch and react to 2011 immortals you won't be disappointed!!
🤓 We Saw Your Eyeglasses. Jupiter's 🐓
wow please tell me you are going to react to the other series?
I love you bro but the original Doctori is Temuera Morrison aka Boba Fett. Aka Jango Fett...Aka Jake the Muss Heke! Lol brow we bow our heads to this man lol
Gannicus will give you a pure ride from season 2-4 i promise bro
My man, I would kill to see you react to Cobra Kai.
If you got a blessing from the Roman Gods for this, it would probably be the Blessing of Mars, not Jupiter.
But I acknowledge and appriciate the sentiment 😁👍
To answer your question Ash; the best gladiator ever in History is ...
1st - Crixus The Gaul (Type of fighter: murmillo) not telling more to not spoil the serie
2nd - Flamma (Type of fighter: secutor) he rejected 4 times the "rudis" (freedom) and died in the arena at 30yo
3rd - Spartacus (Type of fighter: thraex) not telling more to not spoil the serie
Yes Spartacus story IS real (and the serie is "mostly" accurate)
Why in THEE hell did he nvr finish this? I’ve nvr seen someone love a show so much and just drop it. Did he at least finish on his own?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEAAAASEEEEE... reacts to movie calls SINISTER... !!!! Psicologist terror!!!
You should watch mission impossible 1996
A lot of the actors were also New Zealanders, Australians, and American. But, yeah, most of them tried for British accents. I think that Ashur was an exception, though I am not sure if it is because the actor cannot (he is from Lebanon and moved to America after high school) or whether it was a deliberate character choice.
There will be a few characters later on who use...different accents, but I will say no more about that for now.
Theres a bunch of British actors as well, Andy was one of them.
@@adam-uy6qg Sure, but I am just saying that the actors came from all over.
That predicament Gannicus and Melitta are put in, still sucks to see after all these years. xD
Oenomaus too, having to kill his mentor. Then Melitta going to him, having to be strong so she can be there for him in that moment, while shes going through something already. This show is not kind to our characters. xD
Really disappointing that these Spartacus videos don't do better views wise...it's so good and your reactions are honest reactions....I hate waiting so long in between...but there's no incentive other than pure enjoyment for them to be released more often ...I think a good compromise would be to do what you did at the end of season 1 and drop 2 episodes per video
yea that would be great
no one of you realised that boba fett is in this series???
Do season 3,&4 uou won’t be disappointed
This is only episode 2! Lol
You think the first season finally was greatest ever wait until episode 6 of gods of the aren 😲😲😲😲😲
Missed this live but excited to watch it now, Ash mate I gave you a glowing retweet on Twitter telling my followers to check you out, you need to promote your videos on there more and I hope you give me a follow back on there but even if you don't I'm still always a fan bruddah.✌❤
He is chatting back cuz even tho they are slaves, there were a sense of honor.
Bartiatus father Highly valued this and it made the gladiators very loyal and respectful.
Bartiatus is now soiling that legacy.
If is father was actually dead they still wouldnt like it but the probably wouldnt have said anything.
But as his father still lives and it is STILL his father lotus, they take issue.
Its not really very strange, in fact I find it rather believable.
Do you plan to get back to Spartacus reactions or you abadonded them for good? Its already two and half a month from your last reaction.
Gannicus is greatest, won his own freedom killing fucking everyone...
The whole upper class, "posh" British accent used so much in shows like this and a lot of movies is because it is said to imply high intelligence, but low morals.
Gannicus for me personally is the better character that Spartacus. Not the better fighter imo, but I preferred his character.
They are pretty much equal. Gannicus appears to be more athletic, while Spartacus feels more crafty and versatile.
As for best Gladiator easily Flamma. Not the greatest or most famous. But wins losses and record yeah Flamma for the win.
Bruh what happened to the rest of spartacus?
