The seeds for Mahabharata war were laid a lot before the Pandavas were born. Started from Shantanu who ignored his son Devavratha who was ready for marriage and lusted after a girl much younger than his son. From there things started to go wrong.
Main reason Duryodhana lost was because none of his commanders were loyal to him due to various perhaps unavoidable reasons, even his close friend Karna. Had Karna had not known that Pandavas were his brothers on his mother's side, he sure would have slain Yudhishtir, Nakul and Sahadev and perhaps Bheem too. That said, then Arjuna was capable of destroying Kaurava army all by himself. But again, the main reason perhaps why Duryodhana did not win was that Krishna was protecting the Pandavas and Karna was deprived of his armor which has rendered him almost invincible. Had Karna not been deprived of his armor, not even Krishna and Arjuna fighting together could have defeated him, Krishna mentions this fact after Karna's death. So Krishna was main reason for the victory of Pandavas. Duryodhana committed many tactical blunders too that did not help.
Arjuna could not beat Bhisma, Drona & Karna. This is why krishna had to interfere. Arjuna stands for people who walk the path of Dharma & Bhishma, Drona & Karna are the opponents they will face. Bhishma is type of guy who thinks keeping promises is more important that doing what is right. Drona is the kind of guy who is obsessed with his son/family rather than doing what is right for all. Karna is the guy who is Dharmic, but helps his Adharmic friends & family instead of doing what is right. Although, they are more powerful, Paramathman narayana will always aid the Dharmic.

U forgot to mention about Karna. And FYI it was Karna who insulted Draupadi, not Dronacharya. Dronacharya was silent just like Bhishma in the great assembly hall. The real three powerful warriors in the Kauravas were the pupils of Parshurama. They were Bhishma, Dronacharya & Karna. It is because of these three persons, Duryodhana had the audacity to fight against Krishna & his protected disciples, the Pandavas. When those three were slain by the Pandavas, they (Pandavas) had won the war. The war of 18 days in the Kurukshetra Theatre.

Its not understood why Mahabharata is seen only as Pandavas and Kauravas.
It actually started much before from King Bharat.
The strongest character of Mahabharat was Queen Satyavati, the wife of king Shantanu.
She ruled for almost 60 years. When Shantanu died she had 2 children. When they died she called ved vyas and then ruled till Pandu became king. Then when Pandu died she supervised the kingdom and ruled efficiently till she finally left for the forest.
But she has never got the appreciation she deserved.
Often the person who adminsters so efficiently that they anticipate a problem and take corrective action in advance. That's what Satyavati did and ruled very efficiently.

If you read the Mahabharatha epic properly, Vyasa version, you find that Duryodhana did fight and kept fighting but like Yudhishtira he beat a retreat whenever he perceived a threat to his life. As his death would end the war. Thrice Duryodhana struck Bheem with arrows making him faint during Bhishma parva. Like Duryodhana was more like playing the role of a boss. Bosses does not do work regularly, right?

Basically had to give the throne to his younger brother because he was blind but it’s always that the oldest gets the throne so it is not clear if it was a temporary arrangement until Dhyrodhana grows up or permanent arrangement.
