Standard practice in Pakistan because of ECONOMICS and family values as the opposition MP claimed. Arranged marriages are not based on family traditions or cultures but purely based on economic values as huge amounts change hands if either individual has a Western passport.
55% of the 1,587,819 (data from 2021 census so has grown since then through birth and immigration) British Pakistanis are married to their cousins. If each couple has the average 3-4 kids and even half of them are affected then that is a huge pressure on the NHS.
One off cousin marriages carry a slightly higher risk of birth defects at 4% instead of 2% of unrelated spouses. The problem arises when it's generation after generation of people marrying their cousins and the heartbreaking problems that occur. One only needs to look at the Hapsburgs to see the evidence.
The NHS has been stifled in Bradford Rotherham and other Muslim dominated towns from reporting defects for fear of backlash from Muslim preachers and leaders. Like the Politicians police councillors Labour Party and Elite had stifled and choked off the "Grooming Gangs" Abuse.
I personally don't agree with first cousin marriages, however I believe if adults choose to then it's their business. Also when we live in a hedonistic society and children are born and brought up without knowing 1 or both parents and don't know their family how many have had relations with their own parents, step siblings and aunts and uncles and first cousins?!
I’ve heard of this phenomena of relatives who meet as adults falling in love. My friend who went through an adoption agency to meet her biological parents was made aware of this before she met her biological father and brothers.
What’s crazy is her cousin felt the same way…imagine the odds. Liking your cousin romantically is one thing but the odds of your cousin liking you back? Has to be extremely slim odds
You might get away with it in once, but the problem is hugely exacerbated in certain 'communities' where this goes on generation after generation with predictable results.
Am an ex Catholic migrant and strongly disagree with marrying cousins. As the Independent Pakistani MP stated he opposes the ban because it is against family and ECONOMIC values. Marrying cousins or Arranged marriages are an Economic scam as huge amounts of money change hands if either individual has a Western passport. Please check this out for yourselves if you do not believe me. Pakistani MP must focus on Birth Control and responsible parenting.
Queen Victoria married her first cousin..Two of her great grandchildren phillipous Andreou and Elizabeth also cousins got married..maybe this explains why they are like they are.
@livinia296 they were both queen Victoria's great grandchildren...Phillipous Andreou was booted out of greece in disgrace along with his family..The only country in Europe that would take him was the UK. The royal family changed his name to appease the peasants and married him of to his cousin Elizabeth.
So she found it wierd but okay? And eventually gave in to the idea of it being ok, if it was ok to start of with why did she have thoughts of it at the start and why did she have to get the approval or a second thought from various people if she saying it’s totally fine then why is it so complicated? That’s my question I’m not judging her just taking from what she said tbh it’s her life and she happy so cool
I disagree with her "weird but okay" comment. But the Muslim MP has mentioned "Family and Economic" which is why these marriages MUST be banned. Huge amounts of money change hands in "Arranged Marriages" and young men/women are pressured into marriage asap as their parents can benefit economically.
That lovely lady and partner were responsible and did researched into it .others dont.we had friends who were cousins every thing was ok had a lovely son.but if you dont go into genealogy its all wrong.dont put a child's life in jeopardy. ❤
Sorry but just No!!
I agree
People should realise that it's possible to fall in love with another person who isn't your first cousin.
It's about the children. Fall in love, don't have children.
Standard practice in Bradford
Very true. And in certain middle Eastern countries

@agnescraig2912 then the in-laws come over for an extended holiday .

Marriage between cousins is just wrong.
not against the law and low risk if healthy
Queen Victoria married her FIRST COUSIN Albert.
Queen Elizabeth married her THIRD COUSIN Prince Philip too. 🙄

Can cousins marry in the UK?
Under current legislation, marriages to a sibling, parent or child are prohibited but not between first cousins.
Queen Victoria married her FIRST COUSIN Albert.
Queen Elizabeth married her THIRD COUSIN Prince Philip too.
Dodged the perfectly healthy comment 😂😂😂😂
Didn't even notice she didn't answer that 😂
If you don't like it... Then don't marry your cousin...
Just don’t marry your cousin, end of discussion.
@@TheAArmstrong I won't... thanks. But it's not really my business who anyone else marries.
@@DForce26 If it harms society, then you’re allowed to not agree with it. Don’t be so meak.
If it's her first cousin, then how is the kids' aunt also her grandma? That doesn't make sense at all.
I feel so bad for the Royal Family somebody needs to tell them.
Funny how the cousin comes with a uk visa .
It’s ok to marry animals but not cousins

Falling in love is bad enough but arranged marriages?
More tory division..let people get on with it..its not brother and sister
