@@benjaminkohl342 Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) functions well at high speeds and can handle almost all traffic situations. Operating lower than 40 miles per hour is approximately 64km/h in good weather conditions and following a car in the same lane is no issue for the FSD system. The only reason drivers are legally required to be ready to take over within one second and to remain attentive at all times is due to regulatory constraints. Tesla has not chosen to invest the time to apply for their system to be categorized as Level 3 autonomous driving. While Tesla's customers may not be interested in a system that only functions in limited situations, I also get nervous when a Mercedes is tailgating me and not honking even when I'm driving under 40 miles per hour.
Duno why i need to keep explaining this, but here we go again. If you want any decent comparison here then you will have to do it by by comparing this joke system with Tesla autopilot or enhanced autopilot system which are made to be used on highways, just like this joke system is, that would be correct comparison. While FSD is made to be used for any type of road and anywhere, so that one isn't even comparable with this joke system.
@@Zripas If one were to make a comparison, Waymo and Cruise are the key players operating Level 4 autonomous vehicles, and they do so even during nighttime in California San Francisco. In any case, comparing them is like comparing apples to pears. Only when both systems reach Level 5 autonomy can they truly be compared against each other.
This is what they consider level 3? This is a complete joke. FSD will drive me 60 miles a day from unmarked country lanes, through highways and to a downtown location to the parking lot with zero interventions (excluding parking lots).
I don’t like the thought process of making the car stop in its lane if a driver doesn’t respond within a certain amount of time. They should program the vehicle to move to the shoulder and stop. Then the car can send out an OnStar type of alert to MB whatever or the relevant state troopers/highway patrol. Stopping on a highway in a lane is very very dangerous for everyone else. Especially if the vehicle stops right after a crest or bend in the road.
This is embarrassing Edmunds and Mercedes. For Drive Pilot to work, you can only drive on a highway with traffic, you cannot drive beyond 40 mph, the road must be clearly marked, the weather must be perfect, and it only works in daylight. TESLA FSD 12.3.4 which have NONE of these ridiculous these conditions. You can drive it anywhere (highway, local, and backroad), anytime, in any conditions. All Testa vehicles 2017 and present can do this pretty flawlessly and you can purchase the Model Y with FSD included (3 month free trail, $99/month or $8K outright purchase) for less than $40K brand new!
Most of you don’t understand what level 3 means, this car still can drive itself and do all the other things, level three means that you don’t have to really pay attention at all. Level 2 will change lanes and everything else and this car has that.
Sounds like a joke, so many requirements just to get the thing to work. First to level 1, 2 & 3 are you kidding. Maybe you need to watch some FSD Tesla videos.
Some level 2's do the same thing nothing new here in fact they work at night and rain. This lane assist and adaptive cruise are stitched together I think wrong to label them by Mercedes or too early to showcase the project.
What a garbage and worthless system. The reps from Mercedes are just there at seat fillers, the guy in the back seems like he's asleep. Tells you how much they think their own system is worth. We don't need something that will only work in 2.3% of traffic scenarios while cost $2500 a year.
So, MB beats Tesla to level 3? Hmm. Testing in Germany is not thesame as testing in the U.S. So, I'm not sold on level 3. Maybe this more like Level 2.5. The terms of use is not appealing. Sorry. Can't be used at hwy speeds in conjunction to cruise control?!. GM's supercruise still sounds more appealing. Tensions seems to be high in the cabin based on the video.😅. I won't option my MB with this system at this phase.
People are mocking this because it doesn't match their driving situation, but i can say that driving in LA or Bay Area traffic, where this is available, is a huge benefit. You experience sub-40mph traffic on a daily basis. And clearly, this will only get better with time. Regardless, this system is infinitely better than anything Tesla or others could offer. I had FSD, and it was incredibly good and dangerously bad at the same time. FSD owners will highlight how great the system is while ignoring the dozens of times it decided to slam on the brakes or steer them towards an onramp at 70 mph.
Bei diesem Video sieht man wieder einmal: Deutsche Autobauer wurden abgehangen und holen den Vorsprung anderer Automobilhersteller nicht mehr ein. Dieser Mercedes ist einfach eine farce...
“Conditional autonomous driving system” And the condition limitations are a joke. SAE certificate means absolutely nothing too by the way. They are not a governance body. It’s nothing more than a piece of paper. 40mph and under with a vehicle in front of you, good weather and a handful of freeways in CA and NV You have to hunt for traffic for it to be turned on. What a joke. And it screams at you to take over.
Lmfao they call this level 3....but refuse to let tesla use FSD as level 3 even though tesla's FSD is decades beyond this system. this is basically a "theres a car in front of us, lets just tail it" its not even close to being anywhere near level 3. I had FSD drive me 100 miles at night, in the rain with no cars around. every single condition this system cannot do.
With all this restrictions - this system is a joke... even unperfect Tesla Auto pilot (not talking about FSD) is more usable... because it works at highway speeds and in the night...
This is proof that Elon is right. You only need cameras and the more sensors you have, the greater the disruption can be with the system over analyzing. This is scary to me. You have to pay more attention than any other system as these required conditions can change so quickly!
agreed! sound like Benz dumped down the requirements for what a level 3 system really is. Even in the limitations it has - use in traffic - i bet it wont doge road debris. Lets say it can, you can’t call it level 3 with so many “it only works…” 🤣
Difference between L2 and L3 systems is basically who is liable for the damages if accident happens. Tesla auto pilot or enhanced auto pilot performs miles better than this joke Mercedes system, but Tesla simply doesn't want to deal with those possible lawsuits so its being labeled as L2. Mercedes just tries to be the "first" with L3 by paying out few millions in damage, which is cheaper than actually investing in advertisement.
This is the first phase , it will move on to high speed and poor weather functions in a few years . I think the system is capable of that now , but start gently, that's the key
It’s just embarrassing reading all the comments. Levels are regulations of liability, nothing more. And regarding that, it only makes sense to restrict the usage even if the system could handle all other scenarios. You have to compare MB level 2 to other systems and not level 3. Otherwise, you would be comparing apples to oranges.
So, to summarize, Mercedes' Drive Pilot works only when the road conditions are perfect and you're moving at the pace of a turtle. Mercedes should be embarrassed.
And to summarize, after 4 years in beta Tesla FSD still cannot read a road sign (DO NOT ENTER) , it still struggles to escape from a parking lot or parking structure, and FSD cannot react to Police or Ambulances with sirens on. FSD also routinely ignores speed bumps, and cannot see potholes or *broken* *glass* in the road. what a joke Any high school kid is a much better driver than FSD.
Tesla's FSD accelerates up to and drives at 85 mph, works great with no traffic, works great at night, works great in the rain, works great on roads without clear lane lines, including dirt roads.
Tesla is leve 2, and is full of investigation for problems and accidents and is not able to be used without a continuis control of human, and is not programmed for easy and an expected event (like a truck with traffic lights on top) that brings the car compeltely in tilt. So that is not autopilot, not a real one. Then you can push the limits of the technology but in this way you are risking you life and the one of everyone else. Plus the problem are the words of the boss that says tha the autopilot is already there, but is not, at least not in proportion with his words
Better to be safe and cautious than take lives and injure people and be sorry later. A good PR does not necessarily mean a good reliable system. A system with no incidents is a better system than any FSD or whatever.
@@6JLFilm9 What are you talking about? the FSD does all that and more. the only issue is that they wont designate FSD to level 3. not that it's not level 3.

In this sense, the basic 2-level automatic control works better. One standard trip I have is approx. 500 kilometers. At level 2, the car steers, adjusts the speed and keeps the distance constant for more than 90% of the driving distance. There is so little other traffic in many places in Finland that Mercedes' level 3 system would actually be a deterioration of the current situation.
@@845amg I am pretty sure it still has all the levl 2.5 Stuff on board that lets you cruise around how you describe it. @@benjaminkohl342 só the level 2 system from MB would drive you from a to b at higher speeds, without the need for a car in front? Would that take care of highway exits, overtaking automatically and all the other things the Tesla FDS seems to be doing pretty well?
Thais Software is embarrassing😂😂 take a look at Tesla how full self driving really works 🙄 shame on you Mercedes
S500 or s580??
This technology is exciting. Can't wait for a few years as things progress and they get less expensive
Level 3 or not, this system from MB seems to be much less capable than the Supercruise and the Bluecruise despite these being a Level 2 system.
I feel this isn’t better than GM supercruise
This is embarrassing Edmunds and Mercedes. For Drive Pilot to work, you can only drive on a highway with traffic, you cannot drive beyond 40 mph, the road must be clearly marked, the weather must be perfect, and it only works in daylight. TESLA FSD 12.3.4 which have NONE of these ridiculous these conditions. You can drive it anywhere (highway, local, and backroad), anytime, in any conditions. All Testa vehicles 2017 and present can do this pretty flawlessly and you can purchase the Model Y with FSD included (3 month free trail, $99/month or $8K outright purchase) for less than $40K brand new!
i think the dude in the rear was asleep the whole time
Most of you don’t understand what level 3 means, this car still can drive itself and do all the other things, level three means that you don’t have to really pay attention at all. Level 2 will change lanes and everything else and this car has that.
You still have to pay attention though this so called level 3 is not perfect we will see alot more accidents if benz can sell this crap.
I am not sure how the Mercedes has the gaul to advertise something half baked like this as a “first” of anything.
Wait, that's it? r/RealTesla , I thought you guys said this is better than Tesla FSD?
So, MB beats Tesla to level 3? Hmm. Testing in Germany is not thesame as testing in the U.S. So, I'm not sold on level 3. Maybe this more like Level 2.5. The terms of use is not appealing. Sorry. Can't be used at hwy speeds in conjunction to cruise control?!. GM's supercruise still sounds more appealing. Tensions seems to be high in the cabin based on the video.😅. I won't option my MB with this system at this phase.
Lot of slow driving there in the fast lane.
The problem is that it is not really necessary with the limitations it made an already over priced car way over priced these won't sell.
only works when.... only works when... we will look back at this in 10 years and laugh.
I'm laughing now...
That level 3 system seems like a joke.
Bei diesem Video sieht man wieder einmal: Deutsche Autobauer wurden abgehangen und holen den Vorsprung anderer Automobilhersteller nicht mehr ein. Dieser Mercedes ist einfach eine farce...
Better off getting the Acura tlx sh awd!!!
What a joke! Tesla FSD is literally light-years ahead.
“Conditional autonomous driving system”
And the condition limitations are a joke.
SAE certificate means absolutely nothing too by the way. They are not a governance body. It’s nothing more than a piece of paper.
40mph and under with a vehicle in front of you, good weather and a handful of freeways in CA and NV
You have to hunt for traffic for it to be turned on.
This is worthless. Nothing special about this considering what FSD already does. Teslas full self driving is way ahead of this.
This is just redicilous. Not impressed.
Any idea when Mercedes might add radar sensors to help the self driving Drive Pilot??
Hopefully Mercedes licenses Tesla's FSD.
LMAO, this requires subscription of $2500 a year!
They’re the first to L3? Hasn’t FSD been L3 for a while?
FSD isn’t a true SAE level 3
agreed! sound like Benz dumped down the requirements for what a level 3 system really is. Even in the limitations it has - use in traffic - i bet it wont doge road debris. Lets say it can, you can’t call it level 3 with so many “it only works…” 🤣
No, never was
@@ALMX5DPneither is just what I watched in this video lol 😂
Difference between L2 and L3 systems is basically who is liable for the damages if accident happens. Tesla auto pilot or enhanced auto pilot performs miles better than this joke Mercedes system, but Tesla simply doesn't want to deal with those possible lawsuits so its being labeled as L2. Mercedes just tries to be the "first" with L3 by paying out few millions in damage, which is cheaper than actually investing in advertisement.
TESLA IS KING 🤴🏼 THIS IS A FUCKING JOKE 😂
This is the first phase , it will move on to high speed and poor weather functions in a few years .
I think the system is capable of that now , but start gently, that's the key
The system is useless if you can't sleep while driving😅
It’s just embarrassing reading all the comments. Levels are regulations of liability, nothing more. And regarding that, it only makes sense to restrict the usage even if the system could handle all other scenarios. You have to compare MB level 2 to other systems and not level 3. Otherwise, you would be comparing apples to oranges.
Womp womp
Benz over hyped that is the issue.
Should have called it a L5. On condition that it must be stationary. What a joke Mercedes lol
BARELY Level 3.
Tesla FSD makes this thing look like an amateur.
What a joke of ADAS.
May cut down on traffic fatalities
It won't it will stop in the middle of roads which will increase accidents this whole benz thing is pathetic they made autopilot this is not level 3.
Teslas level 2 already does more than this level 3🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not impressed!
garbage compared to tesla still :(
Yeah Tesla is killing this as far as autonomy is concerned…. However Mercedes is still king of luxury and comfort
Would be delighted to collaborate with your channel!
Holy shit this thing is bad, the Tesla AP works better than that in Europe.
True Autonomous won’t arrive in over 100 years lol 😂😂
2500.00 dollars a year, for this shit! Mercedes shame on you! Must be a joke, who can take this serious.
so dumb... don't buy a car if you don't want to actually drive... just Uber everywhere
Only a matter of time before level 3 expands to more scenarios then all scenarios.
So, to summarize, Mercedes' Drive Pilot works only when the road conditions are perfect and you're moving at the pace of a turtle. Mercedes should be embarrassed.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 They should hide their head in shame 😅😅😅
And to summarize, after 4 years in beta Tesla FSD still cannot read a road sign (DO NOT ENTER) , it still struggles to escape from a parking lot or parking structure, and FSD cannot react to Police or Ambulances with sirens on. FSD also routinely ignores speed bumps, and cannot see potholes or *broken* *glass* in the road. what a joke
Any high school kid is a much better driver than FSD.
It's not autonomous if it requires a car in front of it to function. Ill stick to v12 FSD
Tesla's FSD accelerates up to and drives at 85 mph, works great with no traffic, works great at night, works great in the rain, works great on roads without clear lane lines, including dirt roads.
😂 I literally laughed when I watched this clip. Mercedes owners are proud of this “level 3”
Tesla's FSD is a simpleton Level 2 assistant that requires *100* *percent* human supervision at all times. To call it Self Driving is deceptive and laughable.
What a joke. You are getting scammed
The technicalities on laying claim for lvl 1,2,3 are pretty irrelevant to me. The use cases in my opinion is what determines the usability, and this my friend feels far off from lvl3. Just cause you squeeze in 10 secs where you can actually watch youtube cause you're in traffic, driving below 40mph, its sunny, and its during the day grants you a lvl3 title, I'm sorry, I'll stick with FSD that drives highway and city streets, anytime of the day, most weather conditions, much higher speeds albeit with the frequent nags.
To think i get all that limitation mercedes offers for just $2500 annually..... thanks, but no thanks.
The real utility here is being able to play shuffle puck (albeit for 2.5K a year and under 40 mph in heavy traffic)!
This feels years behind a Tesla
This was Tesla back in 2013.
@@greatleader4841 right lol
3:50 First the software (middle screen and right) look like it was done in 2003. Second you are blocking the traffic! That's about as unimpressive as it gets. It's worse than unimpressive
No comparison to Tesla at the moment, sorry.
let me see you cant drive in rain or at night or over 40 mph and this is lvl3 what a joke
Mercedes just invented the equivalent of a solar powered flashlight. Basically as long as you have car in front of you to lead you your Drive pilot will work (in addition to maintaining 15-40mph speed, day time, no rain)😂 I am surprised the person who proposed this in Mercedes headquarter didnt get fired for its ridiculousness 😮
How are people so unaware in these comments? THIS IS A HUGE FIRST REVEAL IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY. It has these limitations since its NEW. It's a option if you want it or not. These limitations will be lessened when the programme is more ideal and reasonable to do so.
I had to check when thus video was released because it's soooooo far behind tesla it's not even funny. What an absolute joke. Can't use at night rain 40+mph blah blah. I can hear elon laughing from here!
Yes I took a level 2 c300 on a 3000 mile trip and used it 75% of the time and was so nice
I agree. I don't see why I would give up my current system for this. It's a downgrade.
@@845amg I am pretty sure it still has all the levl 2.5 Stuff on board that lets you cruise around how you describe it.
Just if you want to activate level 3 you need to be in the conditions he describes. The car us still able to drive with level 2/2.5 if you prefer that.
The difference here is that level 2.5 needs you to be aware of your surroundings all the time and f you crash it is your fault.
In level 3 mode you do not need to be aware and if the car crashes Mercedes will pay the bill.
Hahahaha OMG, This is the worst auto pilot system I have ever heard of. I thought from the “can’t do” list that this is some kind of internet joke! Ba-Jesus, this joke is real!
I didn't think Edmunds was biased until now. How do you do a review like this and not mention how it compares to Tesla...
Because Tesla doesn’t pay them advertising dollars.
Becaue Tesla has no L3 self driving to compare to. Mercedes has L2 and L3, you can use wichever you want. Tesla only has L2.
Comparing L2 Mercedes self driving to L2 Tesla self driving would make sense and be fair.
Plus, Tesla's L2 was way worse when it was first released, L3 obviously will be the same.
@@OnePieceSS23so you are just going to say how bad Tesla was in the beginning, but not mention how advanced the FSD is today? It's far superior to this drive pilot junk
This is what happens when your obsessed with being first to market to beat Tesla. You make stupid releases.
Isn’t this just like BMW’s Traffic Jam Assist, you can take your hands off on that system too.
you have to keep your eyes on the road at all times with traffic jam assist
@@edmundscarsWhy wouldn't you want to, you're DRIVING A CAR?!
@@unowen-nh9ov while SAE level systems are driver assistant systems, Mercedes Drive Pilot is a level 3 system, meaning the car is taking over. Under certain conditions, you are in fact driven: hands off, mind off.
@@edmundscars BMW has a better system tho. On my highway assistant on my 2024 X50e i can drive hands free up to 85 mph...Merc still doesn't have hands free at those speeds and their lane steering doesn't work as well at keeping the car in the center of the lane. You also do not have to keep your eyes on the road at all times...It lets you look away for about 20-30 seconds before you get a warning, but i don't mind...It works perfectly at high speeds well the Mercs is useless imo
Is this for real? My Kia k5 does a better job as long as I touch the steering wheel one a minute lol. I ran all the stuff it can’t do and I RAN to the comments lol
Comma Openpilot and Tesla do a lot more than this despite being so 'high-tech'
The future of what? Of being owned by a public transportation tool? Because this is NOT about owning nor driving a car. This is an awesome feature for busses or trams though.
Agreed this car will most likely not sell well.
I feel bad for all 3 people in the car. The reviewer because he has to act blown away by this useless technology, and i got secondhand embarrassment from the two MB reps who have to sit there and act like this is cool. Those stipulations are ridiculous just to try and be "first" 😂
Pretty useless in my opinion if it has all those negatives
Cant touch Tesla after you know what all the operating conditions are...LOL
From the sound and look of it, GMs super cruise is better.
Doesn't work on the Südautobahn where i use my Tesla's Autopilot mostly. That one works.
Supercruise is utter shit! Only works on like 5% of the roadways.
After watching this.. am going to buy more tesla stock 😂
I stopped soon he said doesn’t work at night.
This level 3 system is a pure joke in comparison to my level 2 Tesla system 😂
Lmfao, this is a joke.
