I love that people these days want to dress like her but what made her so interesting is that she stuck to her own style . You can’t emulate that , just be yourself! Be authentic!
I think what we could learn from Carolyn is to do what works for you and what looks good on you. She looked AMAZING in what she wore. Some of her stuff I couldn’t pull off - but you can look and how she did things and think, hey, X is a bad choice, and Y is the better one for these reasons. And make it your own. I think there’s something to be said for a good basic workhorse of a black bag that’s quality (and you don’t need to be in Kelly territory to get that) and pieces that mix and match well. I think Princess Diana did the same thing. I think the current Princess of Wales does that as well (and maybe even better than Diana did). Don’t fall for trends. It doesn’t matter if it’s hip. It matters if it looks good on you. Pick pieces wisely and be calculated. And I think “be authentic” is a great mantra that ties in with all of that.
Now that the Kardashians are fond of their Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags, I don’t think Carolyn would still be carrying them. They’re now associated with tacky new money folks and Carolyn was anything but.
Not necessarily. Pristine, twilly tied, over babied Birkins and Kellys are kind of cringe. Lived in Birkins and Kelly bags are not. Carolyn was not from old money. Her parents were upper middle class. Even the Kennedys are not "old money". It takes SEVEN generations of great wealth to qualify. And BTW-all new money is not "tacky".
She looks dated now. I understand trying to be nice but her eyebrows alone are super dated. Her hair color is VERY dated as well. I understand the sentiment, but let's not lie.
Let’s face it, beautiful women can wear anything and look classy. I have a beautiful friend and she can roll out of bed, brush her hair and teeth, throw on jeans and look stunning while I’m still trying to wake up. She could have carried a brown paper bag and everyone would think if they carried one they could look like her:)
@kellylamarco3753No offense, but I never liked that scent. Too hippie for me (my roommates were from Woodstock). And as you likely know, it was popular before the 70's. It's so strong imo, I can still smell it 30 years later, lol!
Fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez was a very close friend and her wedding dress designer. His eponymous debut fragrance Narciso Rodriguez was inspired by a perfume oil Carolyn wore that she used to purchase from an African American street vendor. The perfume oil is by Abdul Kareem and was named Egyptian Musk Oil. You can still get it today.

I’m not saying we needed to know everything - things I’ve read about her are that she was a genuinely kind, friendly, and funny person, and it’s just sad that the paparazzi sort of beat that out of her and made her feel she was hunted (she was). JFK Jr was so outgoing and vivacious and…so KENNEDY. I can’t imagine him not choosing someone who was much the same as him, and it’s so sad that what the press put her through squelched that. I’m sure it messed with her head when Princess Diana died. How could it not? She’d be 60 this year. I’m only 53 and have already lived so much longer than all three of those young people on that plane that day.
@Tory1776 There are other accounts of her personality that don't match her looks. She and John fought constantly in public. She set her sights on John and knew press was part of the package. There would be no image they were different from anyone else if not for the press. Don't take me wrong but it reminds me of Megan Markle playbook. Don't get me wrong..Carolyn was beautiful with great style and figure to carry it off. Megan on the other hand..need I say more? Lol! Fancies herself Diana 2.0
I didn’t know her, but at the time it was completely normal for me to dress in a very minimalist way (I’m European). There were the people who still dressed very colorfully, and then there were those who had that particular style. The one who was always impeccably dressed during that time was Caroline of Monaco.
I want the Birkin at the same price Carolyn paid! 😂 I fell in love with it after watching another one of your videos, but when I looked it up, I almost fainted. It’s HALF my yearly salary!
We ALL wanted to be her in the 90s, every blonde I know grew their hair long and tried hard to emulate her style (including me 🤭). Thanks for the fashion trip down memory lane 💞
@kristineantonelli3146 I would have given ANYTHING to have her thick blonde hair. I had her haircut - but I had to (lol) get a light perm in it to pull it off because my hair is so fine. I have a lot of it - but it’s just not the right texture without some help. I went through my Princess Diana hair phase as well before Meg Ryan.
MAC Spice today is different than it was in the 90's. Over the years it became a warm tone rather than the original cool toned color. They have re introduced the original color by popular demand, calling it something like Cool Spice
The Hermes Birkin bag served as mini suitcase for the ever-in-motion hippie chick Jane. But by the 1990s it was serving as a briefcase for business women like CB.
I am só impressed by you finding out about all of this info and sharing it, and then I am also impressed with CBK -- how did she find the best of the best items all around, so original, whilst working, and living in New York, and networking, an having a boyfriend-husband. I do really think we waste or time too much on the internet and media, look how far this lady got... and her fashion, the items, insane!
Ugh, me too! it bothers me they didn't replicate Carolyn's famous wispy brows. If the actress was averse to having them plucked thin, they could have still replicated the look with makeup!
Стиль Каролайн вне времени.И сейчас он смотрится супер актуально. Необыкновенная грация,харизма и безупречный вкус делают её эталоном и в наше время.Очень жаль ,что она ушла так рано ❤
She was an excellent study in finding pieces/styles that work for yourself and investing in quality pieces that last. The tragedy leaves her frozen in time as part of iconic 90s NYC fashion. I’ve been reading Elizabeth Beller’s biography of Carolyn and recommend it if you’re curious about what she was like as a person.
5:19 Ah! One of my favorite of her looks-the simple floral dress. Especially in suits, she reminded me of Eva Peròn. 10:00 Her corduroys are trendy, but John looks like he put on every trend he could find! Your narration is 💯 in this video!
Classic and chic. Her looks are timeless. I’m so curious how her style would’ve evolved through the years. She would probably still be relevant and influential, fashion-wise, had she lived. Such a shame…..
Any idea of the brand jacket she’s wearing on the dock, holding the LLBean tote bag. Appears to be brown wool. Great video. First time I heard her voice or heard of her shampoos.
I like that she wasn’t flashy and had to be in the papers/magazines but her hair color always looked like it was out of a box, her eyebrows were typical 90s overtweezed. She looked better when she had meat on her bones. She always looked abgeschleckt.
We can be fairly certain that she wouldn’t be wearing items associated with new money. She wouldn’t wear clothes that display logos and she definitely wouldn’t be wearing anything worn by the Kardashians or Lauren Bezos. She was carrying Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags while they were seen as old money. Now the Kardashians are into Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags (Kim Kardashian is known as a “Birkin mom”), so I think Carolyn would no longer be carrying them. Her style was old money; nouveau riche is perceived as gauche. I think it likely that she would wear a Patek Philippe watch. I don’t think they’ve been discovered by the nouveau riche.
I think the key to Carolyn’s “fashion” was unfashion. She liked it simple and functional. She was very confident and didn’t waste a lot of time getting ready. That’s the key takeaway all young women should take.
@o@orangemascaraYes, all women should be confident to be themselves. Carolyn was not a trustfunder and a great role model for what a confident woman can do. She achieved a lot before she got married. Hate is not an attractive trait.
@CulturedElegance it's not messy or wind, it is just her natural hairtype which is wavy, textured, coarse. I have the same hair: it is impossible to keep it straight and smooth for days even when styled.
I cant explain why exactly but watching this made me teary-eyed. I know looks can be decieving but her Smile always looked like it was coming from her Heart
The press tried to ruin her; purposely printing photos of her where she's looking stressed & unhappy, but it was THEM who were making her feel that way. All of her friends say what a kind, warm person she was, and that she made everyone feel like they were the most special person in the world.
Some years back I bought the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Bone, and Face Stockholm Cranberry Veil lipstick to try them out. Both are solid products. I wish they hadn't discontinued most of those 90s Bobbi Brown eyeshadows.
2:10 that was the look at the time every one carried the big one, some even bigger which was ridiculous🤷🏽♀️ that was the ‘boss girl’ era , so us girls were making it happen
I loved the vid!!! Loved reliving the 90s looks, accessories, and makeup!!!👍🥰💖 I'm in no way being critical, but it'd be fun to include the current/today's world prices, w each item!!!🤗❤️🤸♀️
I was absolutely blown away by the Hermès Birkin bag replica I received from *yutulu*. From the hand-stitched leather to the engraved metal hardware, the craftsmanship is exquisite. It's substantial and structured, exuding elegance. No one would doubt that it's a fake. *yutulu* is redefining luxury fashion! 👜💎
One of my least favorite 90s trends, and they’ve come back! I think your face has to be the right width. They weren’t too wide for her face, but I think they were the trendiest item she wore
Have you ever considered a stylish leather backpack? I have frozen shoulder, so this was my first time buying one, but most of them weren't very attractive... I bought a leather backpack from *yutulu* and the experience was pretty good.
I cannot for the life of me find a black high v-neck sweater like she wore with the skirt and boots when the paps were taking their picture in front of their apartment. Anyone have any leads where I could find one? I had one just like it back in the 90’s but it’s long gone.
The reason Carolyn’s look works now is she didn’t go for fads. She went for classics. She was class and was classy - two distinct concepts that she blended beautifully. Rest in peace, Carolyn. John may have made mistakes that day - but he never set out to hurt either of you. ❤❤
She was a bohemian girl at heart. She curated this vibe after she got with John. She wasn’t a stranger to sweats, sneakers, and sweatshirts. She was more than these brands and wasn’t a brand snob.
@dhernandez4386 she was working toward this look WELL before Kennedy. She picked it up when she started working deep in the NYC fashion world, which makes sense.
The LLbean bag she carried is a large not extra large like you mentioned here. I watched your video bought an extra large, turns out it’s too big, the proportion is all wrong.
I love that people these days want to dress like her but what made her so interesting is that she stuck to her own style . You can’t emulate that , just be yourself! Be authentic!

@Tory1776 Very well said.
Exactly.
@Tory1776exactly!
The 90s were so beautiful for fashion and creativity. I truly believe it was the last of the great eras
Less tattoe's so people looked unique not all the same.
@jacobfield4848AKA tramp stamps
Now that the Kardashians are fond of their Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags, I don’t think Carolyn would still be carrying them. They’re now associated with tacky new money folks and Carolyn was anything but.
I like to think the Kardashians would never have happened if Carolyn had lived
🎯
@deepestvermillion💯% = ✔♾
@deepestvermillionthat makes no sense. They would have happened with or without Carolyn, who herself was not 'old money'
She will never look dated. ❤
I agree!!❤
💯% Agree
@ChanelStyle101shame his mother would have loved her style
She looks dated now. I understand trying to be nice but her eyebrows alone are super dated. Her hair color is VERY dated as well. I understand the sentiment, but let's not lie.
Let’s face it, beautiful women can wear anything and look classy. I have a beautiful friend and she can roll out of bed, brush her hair and teeth, throw on jeans and look stunning while I’m still trying to wake up. She could have carried a brown paper bag and everyone would think if they carried one they could look like her:)
True. If Carolyn had been 50 pounds heavier or had a plain face, no one would have proclaimed her chic or stylish.
❤
True. I wear sandalwood oil I buy from a street vendor. Never thought of myself as a trend setter. I just like it.
But also average looking women can look elegant and interesting if they dress with care....it works both ways fortunately.
@kellylamarco3753No offense, but I never liked that scent. Too hippie for me (my roommates were from Woodstock). And as you likely know, it was popular before the 70's. It's so strong imo, I can still smell it 30 years later, lol!
It seems like yesterday, I can't believe its been 27 years they have been gone.
Where is it selling ? The original one
Yes!!❤
I bought four bottles in 2014 and I still have one. He used to sell them on eBay.
Didn't she screw over Gordon Henderson on the wedding dress?
@Breathe_PleaseIndeed she did.
I was obsessed with her in the 90s. Just stunning
❤❤
I think most of us were. I hate that she was driven so far into her own world and that we knew so little about her. I’m not saying we needed to know everything - things I’ve read about her are that she was a genuinely kind, friendly, and funny person, and it’s just sad that the paparazzi sort of beat that out of her and made her feel she was hunted (she was).
Set her goal, snagged said goal then played the martyr when pursued by press because she's royalty.
Kennedys are "American Royalty" MM is an anti fashion joke!
Don't get me wrong..Carolyn was beautiful with great style and figure to carry it off. Megan on the other hand..need I say more?
Lol! Fancies herself Diana 2.0
She would wear The Row today. But she would still wear Calvin Klein.
❤
I didn’t know her, but at the time it was completely normal for me to dress in a very minimalist way (I’m European). Yes!!
It’s soo soo expensive 😅😬😬😬
Right!?
Get a fake. Plenty of places make birken size 40s , real leather.
@1SkorpiaDo you have any links or store names, please?
Notice that her birkins are well used
We ALL wanted to be her in the 90s, every blonde I know grew their hair long and tried hard to emulate her style (including me 🤭). Thanks for the fashion trip down memory lane 💞
I wanted to be Halle Berry.
@MELjuly19Thank you! We didn't ALL want to be Carolyn, who sometimes seemed to want to be Darryl Hannah redux.
Are you really serious? She was a anorexic starving ghost woman.
Meg Ryan...
@kristineantonelli3146 I would have given ANYTHING to have her thick blonde hair. I had her haircut - but I had to (lol) get a light perm in it to pull it off because my hair is so fine. They admitted they changed it and re-introduced the original? I knew it wasn't the same! Why mess with perfection? I gotta check that out
She was a cool summer seasonal color and dramatic classic kibbe body type
That is such helpful information!!❤
I have her style as a 90s gurl...always admired her..Classic simplicity... Even styled my wedding dress after her!
Me, too! 2002
@ReadingsinSuspension-gh6uckindred spirits🤩
The Hermes Birkin bag served as mini suitcase for the ever-in-motion hippie chick Jane. But by the 1990s it was serving as a briefcase for business women like CB.
she was so elegant!
That Prada tote I will forever associate with her just like Narciso wedding dress.
I agree!!!❤
She was so effortlessly chic
Yes she was!
@CulturedElegance I was wondering what kind of pants were the tan (goldish color) corduroy ones?
@saintm70I bought some very similar from J.Crew
I think she put in quite a lot of of effort to look effortless.
I wish they were still here.
Me Too...
❤
What, so u could be their friend? 😂😂😂😂
I love tortoise accessories.
Me too!!❤
Lovely style, so polished but natural
I noticed she wore a broach on her black sweater in one of the photos. It looks good.
Good catch! Broaches are so great! ❤
Broaches are extremely chic 🤍
*brooch ‼
@CulturedEleganceSorry but it's brooch.
@SherryHill-k5yYes, it's brooch 😊
I am só impressed by you finding out about all of this info and sharing it, and then I am also impressed with CBK -- how did she find the best of the best items all around, so original, whilst working, and living in New York, and networking, an having a boyfriend-husband. Loved her fashion. I did not then nor do I now envy her life.
Indeed!!
I think her life was probably fun before she started dating JFK Jr. I mean, she dated Michael Bergin and had her pick of male models.
A beautiful timeless iconic woman.
Is anyone else watching the Love Story series? I am caught up in it. I wish they did the actress' eyebrows the same way though.
Ugh, me too! it bothers me they didn't replicate Carolyn's famous wispy brows. If the actress was averse to having them plucked thin, they could have still replicated the look with makeup!
I agree! Everyone had those thin brows in the 90s😅
@honeybdream that is very true. It’s why none of us GenX women have heavy eyebrows anymore. 😂😂😂
I’m loving the miniseries’s.
@Tory1776Right??? Lol
I hear she wore t-shirt from Petit bateau which still exists
Guy Clark says it was a sterling silver Tank with a black strap that she brought from Guy at Cartier
Her style is timeless.
I love this video. So informative. I always wanted to know if some of her favorite items were still available. Classic, divine.
Thank you so much! 🥰❤
Стиль Каролайн вне времени.И сейчас он смотрится супер актуально. Необыкновенная грация,харизма и безупречный вкус делают её эталоном и в наше время.Очень жаль ,что она ушла так рано ❤

I’ve been reading Elizabeth Beller’s biography of Carolyn and recommend it if you’re curious about what she was like as a person.
I still love her taste.
Timeless
I have had my LLBean tote for about 20 years and it’s still going strong
Incredible!
It was a classic style that is still emulated today.
5:19 Ah! One of my favorite of her looks-the simple floral dress. Especially in suits, she reminded me of Eva Peròn. 10:00 Her corduroys are trendy, but John looks like he put on every trend he could find! Your narration is 💯 in this video!

Isso foi incrível
Manolo Blahnik should have done an official 'The Carolyn' shoe 👠 back in the day ❗
Great idea❤
He kept everything simple and classy. ❤
I like that she wasn’t flashy and had to be in the papers/magazines but her hair color always looked like it was out of a box, her eyebrows were typical 90s overtweezed. She looked better when she had meat on her bones. She always looked abgeschleckt.
❤
She was the first woman I ever saw with a Birkin and how I learned about Hermes
I used the bone shade under the brows
Thank you so much. I've been looking for her makeup choices. Karen
You are so welcome! ❤️💄
I wonder what she would wear these days?
Great question!
@Poppy-mi4sfor maybe all young women should just be themselves instead of trying to emulate a dead trustfunder?
@o@orangemascaraYes, all women should be confident to be themselves. Carolyn was not a trustfunder and a great role model for what a confident woman can do. She achieved a lot before she got married. Hate is not an attractive trait.
CBK used a Birkin versus "carrying" one for attention.
True.
Yes! She loved her bags to look "lived in"
Пэрис Хилтон и Хейли Бибер в одном флаконе.
Most of the photos show her hair looking rather messy, not controlled as stated.
The wind can do that
@CulturedElegance it's not messy or wind, it is just her natural hairtype which is wavy, textured, coarse. I have the same hair: it is impossible to keep it straight and smooth for days even when styled.
EVEN HER HAIR WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME ! Specifically the color. Very smart and timeless non dated elegant style.
Agreed!!!❤
I cant explain why exactly but watching this made me teary-eyed.
I know looks can be decieving but her Smile always looked like it was coming from her Heart
I’m honored you loved the video!❤
I agree, that’s a beautiful way to put it, “her smile was coming from her heart”🩷🙏
Bobbi Brown is such a good brand
Never liked shiny glittery or dark eye make up...no to false lashes too!
Yes!!!❤❤
Wonderful - I ADORE your channel! Thank you!
Thank you so much!! ❤️🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤
Thank you for curating this part of history for us...
Of course❤
Her watch was a sterling silver tank Cartier, not gold
Thank you for your comment!
I only wear musk oil allwsys have. Gonna find her lipstick🌞she looked classy. Gone too soon😞🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
😂 leading with the Birkin bag. That’s hilarious
Indeed!! 😂
This was such a wonderfully put together video!
Thank you so much!❤
That was great and your voice is so soothing😊
Thank you so very much!❤

Thank you so very much!!💖🙏 I’m blessed to have you as a subscriber!
I loved the vid!!! Loved reliving the 90s looks, accessories, and makeup!!!👍🥰💖

😍😍
Glad you loved it!❤
Her watch was silver
Levi’s 517 are men’s model 10:24
I can't find that musk oil anywhere. Any help. Pls ❤❤❤❤
It wasn’t gold she traded it in for the silver. The jewelry dealer was just interviewed.
Guy Clark
Studio fix powder is so bad today. No cover...
she apparently wore the same sort of outfit repeatedly because she thought the press would get bored of her 🤔
That's what Princess Diana was quoted as saying as well!
I love to try the bone eye shadow ❤
It’s a beautiful shade!
@CulturedEleganceThank you
Never cared for those sunglasses on her
One of my least favorite 90s trends, and they’ve come back! I think your face has to be the right width. They weren’t too wide for her face, but I think they were the trendiest item she wore
Bobbi Brown launched the eyeshadow stick in 2013, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy died in 1999
Same as Diana. Classic decades later.
Yes!!
No where near my Diana.
From one creator to another - I ❤ your content. I watch on repeat. And the voice is perfect.
Thank you so very much!!
I truly appreciate it ❤❤❤
I will look at your content!!
the Musk perfume,...
Levis fit right .
For sure
They looked so happy together.
They were not.
They were living separately the last few months of their life.
@dhernandez4386thank you. Don’t know that.
Great content ❤
Thank you so much! ❤️
@CulturedElegance❤♾🕯
No, during that time ( ‘96 ish) you could walk in and buy a birkin and a
kelly.
❤
Have you ever considered a stylish leather backpack? I have frozen shoulder, so this was my first time buying one, but most of them weren't very attractive... I bought a leather backpack from *yutulu* and the experience was pretty good.
We love beautiful & rich dead people. We’re obsessed
I wonder what happened to all her clothes and accessories 😔
Birken says I can afford a nanny to watch my kids so I can carry around this suitcase
Wow, she looked similar to SJP.
Great video. Any place I can hear her voice?
There’s not a lot of clips of her voice. Some random snippets here and there.
Yes just a select few snippets here and there.
I cannot for the life of me find a black high v-neck sweater like she wore with the skirt and boots when the paps were taking their picture in front of their apartment. Anyone have any leads where I could find one? I had one just like it back in the 90’s but it’s long gone.
I'd suggest searching the men's sweater department. Men's v necks are usually higher. Probably find great quality also.
@MyCrownstarthank you!
Other Hermes bags she owed were the Dalvy and Massai GM
Yes!!❤❤
She wore classic makeup brands! I wonder what she would think about the makeup today!
She did!! I wonder!🤔❤❤
Was there a whole years long process to get a birkin back in the 90s?
Sadly I do not know! I imagine it was a lot less difficult to get one than it is today though!
The smaller sunglasses and rigid headband were so 90s. Not to mention the thin eyebrows. She would have been even more gorgeous with natural brows
The reason Carolyn’s look works now is she didn’t go for fads. She went for classics. She was class and was classy - two distinct concepts that she blended beautifully. Rest in peace, Carolyn. John may have made mistakes that day - but he never set out to hurt either of you. ❤❤
