Playing the difficulty that is Through the Fire and Flames for a Bass Solo, you know Charles is going to unleash! Amazing, and so technically talented as always.
It's more impressive that Charles played the song at normal speed and Herman Li tracked the solos at a slow tempo coz He can't play the song at the tempo that was originally released. Pretty controversial topic when that record came out.

I've listened to this over 100 times over the months, its so well done. The tapping and harmony of the the lower tones mixed with the speed of the melody is amazing.
As a guitarist, here are my thoughts on the matter: 1. It is easier to be a serviceable bassist than to be a serviceable guitarist, but to be an expert bassist is a whole different world from being an expert guitarist. 2. A good guitarist has a lot to do with how a band is perceived, but a good bassist has an overwhelming amount of control over how the rest of the band sounds. Guitar may have a lot of importance, and it may have a lot of flair, but the bass has all the power.
Les Claypool is the only one lead bassist who really rocks. Some other bassist can play some cool lead lines, but often make solid base to guitars: Mike Inez, Mike Starr, Justin Chancellor, Billy Gould, Tim Commerford - rocks too. Person like davei405 just annoying technical jerks, who doesnt make music and offend musical tastes and feelings of other people.

That's because talented and good musicians make hard pieces and songs look easy. A clean and precise sound is pleasurable to listen to, it is good for the ears and therefore seems "easy" because everything in the performance has been done in the right way. Charles is a really talented and funny musician, definitely worth the click on the subscribe button.
Actually true. Between all the 20th-21st century bands, the melody instrument has been a lot of things: guitars of all sorts, sax, synth, etc. But bass and drums have remained a constant.

I'm a Long time Davie fan, and subscribing to Charles from the first video after the very first fiverr challenge. Here's my thought Davie is great, way beyond average bass player. He has a longevity meme niche and adapting style for youtube, thats why I still enjoy his contents till now very much to this day. But I have to say, no disrespect to Davie, Charles is CRAZY above anyone in term of skill-wise. I always laugh on Davie content, but Charles jawdropped me 80% of the times he played. Davie is like 95/100 for me, yet his niche and style only allows him to play at 80-85 in most contents. You'll only see him go all out on bass battle or serious challenge (still jawdropped me every here and there), which is scarce nowadays between his meme contents. But Charles always 100/100 almost every content. The top of it he's very originally funny without mirroring davie or other youtubers. His classical background is jawdroping and very funny at the same time. I know mostly youtubers don't respond on this kind of comparison comment. But I know Charles would notice... I'm watching you BOTH, and I'm a GUITARIST. That's just how great you both are
I think Davie and Charles play in a two extremely different styles and genres, you cannot just make a comparison between them. It'll be like comparing Van Halen with Hammet, think about it.

I'm a Long time Davie fan, and subscribing to Charles from the first video after the very first fiverr challenge.
Here's my thought
Davie is great, way beyond average bass player. He has a longevity meme niche and adapting style for youtube, thats why I still enjoy his contents till now very much to this day. But I have to say, no disrespect to Davie, Charles is CRAZY above anyone in term of skill-wise. I always laugh on Davie content, but Charles jawdropped me 80% of the times he played.
Davie is like 95/100 for me, yet his niche and style only allows him to play at 80-85 in most contents. You'll only see him go all out on bass battle or serious challenge (still jawdropped me every here and there), which is scarce nowadays between his meme contents.
But Charles always 100/100 almost every content. The top of it he's very originally funny without mirroring davie or other youtubers. His classical background is jawdroping and very funny at the same time.
I know mostly youtubers don't respond on this kind of comparison comment. But I know Charles would notice...

I think Davie and Charles play in a two extremely different styles and genres, you cannot just make a comparison between them. It'll be like comparing Van Halen with Hammet, think about it.

And of course one of the most iconic of all time, Paul McCartney. Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Cliff Burton, Jason Newstead, Geezer Butler, Gene Simmons, Les Claypool, Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, and of course many others. Most of these dudes are at least as popular as Flea and many are even more so. Checkmate!

@@aniketsaha1601 I wouldn't say guitar is overrated. They're two very distinct sounds. Guitar, just as a point of fact, has a wider range than bass, you can do much more with it. That doesn't mean you can't watch Les Claypool crank out Tommy the Cat and be absolutely amazed, I definitely love listening to fantastic bass players, but guitar will always be more dynamic.
