First! In love with Jess 😭🥹❤❤
Firstly, yeah Jess and Rory are the personification of Right Person/Wrong Time. They CAN be good together. But Jess saying "I don't deserve this, Rory." Jess sinks his hooks into Rory by flattering her while she is taken, pressures her into sex, leaves without telling her, spoiling her prom plans, comes back a year later telling her "I love you" then leaving again. He shows up at her dorm room asking her to drop everything for him her Freshman year (I think). She clearly says "no" because she moved on. He leaves, but shows up on her grandmother's driveway randomly offering friendship. Her boyfriend doesn't like it (because really, who likes an ex boyfriend showing up at their girlfriend's house at night to hang out?) I remember him screaming at her "WHY did you DROP out of YALE"? and I'm like "Isn't that what you wanted her to do her Freshman year when you came sniffing around her dorm room?" Because Jess is hot and an interesting character, that makes people think he is a good match for Rory. She didn't ask him to kiss her in the book shop. TL;DR I think Jess and Rory aren't a love story, they are a personal development story.
This!! Out of all of her love interests I like Jess best bc I like what they brought out of each other and I thought they had the best storylines, but everyone really gives Jess too much praise. He really puts Rory on too much of a pedestal and acts like they’re destined to be together just bc she’s the first woman who ever really loved him, which honestly just makes me sad for the guy. Even in AYITL he’s still hung up on Rory and it’s kinda sad ngl. He seems pretty entitled to Rory in later seasons of the original run of Gilmore Girls. Saying “I know you better than anyone” when he yells at her to go back to Yale. Like how does a guy who she dated for maybe half a year, who left her without explanation, who kept entering and leaving her life for several years, who hasn’t really talked with her since he left, know her better than anybody else? And then for him to say “I don’t deserve this” is a little bold. Sure she’s playing with his emotions and that’s not okay, but it’s not like he never played with her emotions all of those years
Rory is worse than Lorelai in the area of messiness.
