ALL of these Reactors were GREAT for this episode, but Phil & Jair cutting up/having a ball, and Jaxon taking his time to carefully/completely explain the slang, made the episode!
Jair & Phil…so laid back and they have great chemistry. Jaxon & Rhoda…such a great pairing. We need more Angel & Catherine because they were teaching each other! I'm still dead over “thooter”. Overall, most of Gen Z slang is Gen X AAVE. “Cheugy” is the only one I didn’t know.
In my linguistics course, at a public university, the professor's favorite thing to do at the end of each class session, was to go and find Gen Z and late millennial slang, and asked us about them. He was so enthusiastic about learning, and would use them because he thought it was funny (spoiler: it was hilarious) and I remember one time he asked, "Do I sound like you guys now?" and we said yes, and he had the most devious smirk on his face when he asked, "No cap?"
My linguistics teacher was also like that and she would always tell us that we shouldn’t let older people tells us that we, the younger generations, don’t know how to speak properly anymore because we use “like” a lot or slang, this is just a sign of cultural and linguistic development within our society. What is considered the “proper” way to speak a language is constantly evolving
Ok...I'm a "vintage millennial" (1984 lol) who works in senior living and I absolutely NEED Phil to come and live where I work so my life can finally be complete. "Do you have Drip, Phil?" "I had some penicillin and it took care of it."😂😂😂😂
When Phil described simp as something to describe someone as stupid, it's actually true. Simp is a word that's been used for quite some time now as a short phrase for simpleton. I use this term all the time to mess with my friends, calling them simps then they got confused which made them look like bigger simps.
Lmao I remember last year my history teacher used the word "cheugy" to try to be cool and none of us knew what it meant so we all just started using it randomly without knowing the meaning 💀
People also ask What does cheugy mean in slang? is out of date or trying too hard Cheugy (pronounced chew-gee) can be used, broadly, to describe someone who is out of date or trying too hard. And while a lot of cheugy things are associated with millennial women, the term can be applied to anyone of any gender and any age.

I've seen Jaxon in a lot of these videos. And I must say, he is very entertaining and knowledgable. He's been doing these videos a long time and I think it would be cool if he had his own channel.
I feel like a lot of these comments are lying about not understanding these. I’m 15 (so a younger gen z) and I knew every one other than chuegy (never heard of it). I never use these but I encounter them everyday during school and in public so I’m surprised about the amount of gen z’s in the comments claiming to have never heard of half of them. And also no, I’m not on TikTok either.
I love Jaxon, he's high key one of the best gen z'ers on the channel, no cap. No, but seriously, this is just how slang (and language in general) works: iteratively changing what came before to get what comes next. Except with new tech, where entirely new words and phrases need to be invented to avoid long descriptive references. So it's no surprise that a lot of gen z slang is modifications of older slang, which in turn was modified from even older slang before that.
Exactly. That’s just how language evolves and the meanings, pronunciations, and even how a word is transcribed changes throughout time. Entomology is an interesting and intriguing topic.
@@elijahsmall5873 I do think you mean "etymology", which I only correct because "entomology" is the study of bugs, and people Googling may get very confused 😂
Gotta say, I'm gen z but I hate the term simp. It's just such a toxic concept. I mean, when you love someone, you give. That's what love is. It's not a bad thing, but so much of our generations seems to have lost sight of that, and now they've turned it into an insult, and apparently now you can't value your partner above yourself without being considered simple-minded and being looked down on.
@@giglebiggle lol no. I don't even really know what kind of content she makes. More like someone who's in love and knows what that's like, and how it can completely change you, defending that. Because people today don't seem to be able to recognize real, deep love, or its value.

This actually helped me like their American language adjustments better. low key makes sense because if you are typing its like CAPS LOCK is yelling so that's high key, and low key is small so it's more like a whisper hence the "restrained or controversial". On the down low.
I feel like their examples for "low key" were accurate but no one really explained it in a way that truly clicked for the elders. It essentially means a more intense version of "kinda", which is relatively much more neutral and on the fence than "low key" is. It's like you mean what you about to say or just said for sure but it aint that serious...whereas "high key" is like you mean that ish fr fr And for "simp", I'd argue that it's more than just being desperate for someone else's attention - it's expressing that desparation/vying for that attention for someone that will either never reciprocate and/or is just leading the person on to use them.
Simping is not just about girls. I have seen it being used recently regarding the billionaires on the sub. Some people said don't make memes about the submarine, and gen z called them simps for billionaires.
