As a former retail manager, my advice is NEVER reach to the back of the shelf. In a place like a dollar store, the odds of the product being rotated when stocking is minimal. The fresher product will end up in the front with the expired or nearly expired product in the back.
Dates are to be checked periodically throughout the week according to daily plans. Some people living on fixed income rely on Dollar stores (at least the Dollar Tree i manage, can't speak for family dollar or dollar general.) Yes check ingredients, if you're looking for junk food do you really care what's in it? Food, snacks, candy, and drinks are my top sellers. Obviously there's a good market for it
I prefer the smaller sizes from the dollar store, even if it has a higher price per ounce. If I buy a 16 oz. bag of chips, I'll eat 16 ounces of chips. If I buy a 10 oz. bag of chips, I only eat 10 ounces.
They didn't mention the biggest gimmick of all at dollar stores. The size. Especially the .99 cent stores. They have many products by known companies made for them at their size specifications. You might buy a recognized bag of candy, like Werthers original, just to find out you actually paid more than in a regular store. For instance, you pay .99 for their version compared to $1.50 in a regular store and the bag is 3 ounces. You only see the 51 cent savings and don't notice the size difference. In a regular store, the bag might be 6 ounces. So, you're getting double the size for 50% more price. BEWARE of that tactic!
I've worked at a Dollar Tree for several years now since I got out of the Army. One of my departments is food (I do chemicals, paper, Plus, food, and occasionally glassware and seasonal candy... so I'm all over the store). We don't really need to worry about food expiring at my particular one because we are a VEEEERY busy store (among the top 5/10 in the company for sales), so we sell out of things quickly despite getting 2,000-4,000+ cases on trucks twice a week. Yet, even still, we make sure it's rotated. I even double check as I go by when I'm on food. Even if it's only the day after the marked date on the package, I take it off the shelf and it goes to the damages up front to be either disposed of or marked down to half price or whatever based on the item and manager discretion (i.e, certain canned goods are marked down and given a bit more time (a few days at most, less than half a week) given they're shelf stable for a long time, but chips and cup fruit are disposed of asap). The frozen food gets no such amnesty and is marked as damaged and disposed of, though. Even if me or one on my freight team see a box the slightest bit open or a can slightly dented, it goes to the damages to he disposed of. That being said, still be careful at dollar stores because not all have freight teams with the same integrity of mine.
in my hometown of Mansfield,Ohio , we have literally close to 20 either Dollar Tree, Dollar General or Family Dollar in our small town of about 43,000 people.
Chances are if you’re already shopping at the dollar store, you’re probably at the point in life where you are into screw it and just goin for it and none of this bothers you.
Especially the Walmarts they refuse to give stockers the time to actually rotate so it just gets shelved. Believe me I tried when I worked for them and was constantly in trouble for not having enough cases shelved when I did properly rotate stock.
That sucks. They give us three days for our dry truck to be completely on the shelves THAT’S NOT ENOUGH TIME! Our store (btw I work for a different company) is one of the busiest in the freakin district we don’t HAVE extra time for anything let alone stocking! Ugh it an absolute nightmare on top of that we have regional that might make a pass over our store so I know our boss will be so nervous bless her heart. We’re STILL workin truck in currently we might be finished with it by tomorrow or somethin like that. I actually heard similar stories from Walmart employees still working with the company that still have that exact problem..and who do they blame..?...the stockers..of course 🙄
@@cnbgamer607 of course, they certainly aren't going to blame themselves for being too greedy to have enough workers working a shift to actually get the work done.
What's your favorite snack?
I don’t get snacks that often but only crackers or chips and diet soda
Love Sun Chips
Anything chocolate is my downfall. Serious downfall
Popcorn 💥
chips it doesn't matter which brand it is as long as it is chips
This can apply at any grocery store
Dollar tree has more name brands and have exp date out a year or 2 lately. I have more trouble at big box stores with exp dates.

Yep sounds like Ohio. Checks out
Also in Ohio (I live on the lake, practically) corn fields with the random dollar general in the middle

Lol, just want the calories...
My dollar general lives up to all the expectations of my local Kroger store….so….
Check your ounces. That's the biggest tip
Ah Dollar stores - where you can find diapers, bleach, donuts, roach spray and potato chips all on the same shelf.
Hell yeah bro 😎
Fresh cooked hotdogs right behind you
Yes
Lmao whew that’s a health hazard
Buying snacks at the dollar store without checking the expiration date is basically Russian roulette
This applies to big box stores and local grocers as well.

Family dollar has huge sales now
People are paid to rotate stock, independent people, or employees qhen restocking. But they don't that's why you find expired stuff.
I like Cheez Doodles and Dollar Tree is the closest store that carries them
Nothing even costs a dollar at a dollar store...
Dollar General and Family Dollar aren't "Dollar stores", never have been, its just part of the name. Dollar Tree is the closest you'll get.
Everything is a dollar at Dollar Tree.
It's literally $1 + tax
The tax is a few cents. Like 6 cents tax.
All stores have taxes.
@@tiffanyh.5788 Not on food.
We get it, you hate dollar stores, now move on.
Either I am indoctrinated by Dollarama, or whatever she's talkin about is not true.
Every thing you said to watch out for is true all all stores. What was your point ???
In places like that look at the ingredients, know what you’re buying.
In ANY store (yes, your grocer too), always look at ingredients.
The cheese is vegan
🤣🤣🤣
Right 🤣
Hahahahaha!
Hmm interesting. Mostly common sense really.
But what about candy? All I want is candy 😊
If U eat it fast what does it matter
U can get some great deals for sure but u gotta hunt
1:32 you realize american cheese is only part cheese right it isn't real cheese or kraft singles
Through the beginning of the video, I began to wonder if big name companies put the video together.....
Wow I've really never thought about this good ideas..
Dollar General isn't a dollar store. It's a general store.
They need to change the name its not a dollar anymore....it's a buck 25....
Do you want to call it 2 for a Dollar tree? The cards are 2 for a dollar. Does that blow your mind?
Mmmmmmmm I love me some fake ass cheese. 🤮
Look homeslice ....that processed stuff is just as bad in your big named grocery stores and brand names . Boop
Is all BS

You're a winner ⭐
You hit the arrow by accident! Been there, dude!
I buy seafood all the time at Dollar Tree.
Oh yes.. These stores also love to sell outdated food.. Be warned...
