Charley is the kind of guy who could wear the loudest Nudie suit you ever saw and drive a Cadillac with steer horns on the hood, and pull it off. This man is authentic country.
I don’t disagree, but look at earlier videos of him playing in subways in NY. Wearing a beanie and urban street clothes. Not saying he ain’t country (he is from Texas after all), but certainly a big part of it is put on to portray a character.

I would consider Charley “retro” country. However, I think he is actually a 1960s singer who somehow found his way to the 21st century to save country music!
It’s normally defined as neotraditional country, but yeah he emphasizes a lot of the old country styles in his music and looks. Some of his songs even have the Bakersfield sound to them, which is really cool. Charley knows how to bounce between a lot of different subsets of country and he kicks ass at it.

On behalf of James Hand, thank you for all the nice comments about this song. He would be very honored by them. He was very honored when other folks knew the words to one of his songs. He told me that gave him the most satisfaction of being a singer/songwriter.
Saw him live at Willie's Picnic in 2005 (I think? Somewhere around there anyway) and became an instant fan. I love that Charley Crocket brought some awareness to his music. Always loved Banks of the Brazos and Baby Baby Babt
