Hello Matt. That 60 watt power rating seems to indicate a 36 volt power supply. The TPA3255 itself is capable of over 100wpc at 8 ohms, 200 at 4, but that requires a more comprehensive cooling solution (big heatsinks, fans, etc). Thanks for pointing out the speaker impedance matching issues regarding frequency response when using these low-cost class D amps. Many people who aren't "techies" don't understand what is going on and how critical the right pairing can be to the sonic performance they get. I really see these low-cost devices more as a desktop or small room solution than for playing in a large den or living room. But nothing wrong with that at all. It's just about setting realistic expectations. I'm still thinking of getting a WiiM Ultra streamer though for my living room and pairing it with a good external DAC. The fact that it has USB output opens up using the better clock circuit in the external DAC to "do the driving". Not sure if I've seen any other price comparable streamers offer a USB output. I've not investigated the new offerings from Bluesound.
I favor them for smaller spaces or desktop use as well, the ultra is a bit different and can really be incorporated wherever but that's a different story. Settings expectations really is the key here.
Something simple i'd like them to add is a coaxial input. Hi Matt, nice job as usual, my only complaint about my WiiM amp is a slight lack of power, now I need an excuse to get the pro model, maybe I need a bathroom system???
Reviewers should really pay more attention to system matching when reviewing these kinds of products, so people know what to expect. Just looking at sensitivity isn't enough. Big floor standers often have higher sensitivity but to get the low end going they still need current to move the cones, smaller bookshelves with 90+ sensitivity should all be ok, but down to 87 DB is possible depending on the specific speaker. I wouldn't go over a thousand for a set, for pairing though. For medium to large rooms a sub would have to be part of the equation.
That's fair, I just wanted to lightly touch on the sensitivity because people sometimes see 120 watts and think thats a green light to run any speaker and as we know it's really not. A sub is almost always a plus in my opinion as well.
Matt try out the Marantz Model M1 on your Buchardt S400 Mk2 speakers and you will be amazed how they come to life. I have this combination at it’s absolutely amazing. 😊

Hmmmm….maybe I better buy another Wiim Mini before they upgrade it and take away AirPlay? Makes no sense to me but probably some kind of riff between the two companies.
Not sure I can justify one of these for mu guest bedroom studio monitors. At $80, how much better is the cheapest than my echo aux out? For $30 more you can get a qudelux 5k with parametric eq and ldac...the next model is up against a topping d50iii.... I wish they made a "pure" line that just focuses on a stereo out with screen and dropped another $20-30. I'd be swapping out my small echoes in an instant and getting one with a screen for my bedroom and my home theater
Thanks for the video. I am looking for something to replace my 15 year old HK Flagship receiver powering Klipsch Forte 2 speakers in the bedroom. The new TV needs something with ARC and I keep coming back to the WiiM Amp Pro as the likely best solution.
Hi! Can you please review something like a Cambridge Audio CXA35 or a bargain used AB amplifier? I am very sure that it's a better investment in the long run. Just add a Wiim streamer and you're done.
It would have been super cool if they made this with DUAL 3255 chips running in PBTL. The power output would remain the same because it’s already running in BTL so going to PBTL just means Parallel bridge mode instead of Bridge mode. The 3255 chip is actually a 4 channel chip so all these amps we are seeing that use it bring it down to 2 channels but it can be run as mono in PBTL. You don’t get more voltage but you get better current delivery at low impedances. You can see this with the mono versions from Fosi and Ayima. That configuration in this amp would be extra impressive.
So, this is 2 WiiM products in a row that no longer support Airplay? Don't like the direction that is going. I'll have to stick with earlier WiiM products I guess.
@MattCoykendall1 Serious problem? Maybe, maybe not. With the right expectations, maybe an opportunity to enjoy music on the cheap. The platform will get better, but won’t get to be a premium sound product, probably ever. Still, love the WiiM platform. Sitting on two Mini’s until things mature a bit.
Can confirm, not all pizza is good.
Definitely hyped or even better purifi amp is in order !
That would be something
No USB B input, its insane they didn't add this, ill keep my Ifi Signature One.
Yes it would. As you say... same power, but less load dependency.
I'll maybe wait for the WiiM Amp Pro+ or the WiiM Amp Ultra. 😂😂
Thanks for this Matt. It helps greatly in buying decision. Much appreciated. 👍🏼🎶😎
You bet
Is this item a new device model of the Wiim Amp?
Yes it is, more of a version 2 than a full refresh
I would buy one if they added a PC USB connection.
So, this is 2 WiiM products in a row that no longer support Airplay? Don't like the direction that is going. I'll have to stick with earlier WiiM products I guess.
I feel the same way!
Blame Apple....
Probably.
I do have a feeling they would be adding it if they were able but hard to say what is going on behind the scenes.
Who knows? I will buy another on the next Amazon Prime Day around the holidays for about $75, not to chance it.
Easy on the acronyms Matt!
big let down not enough inputs
Sea food does not belong on pizza!
Ok fine I kind of agree
I like BLT but will settle for PBJ. A lot of acronyms flying around an otherwise excellent review.
Thanks and noted!
Dude, do you say what PFFB means? Communicate brother! 😢
Except they took away Airplay… sigh…
i've had my wiim amp for about 3 months. i love it. my only gripe is i just wish it was a bit louder.
Agreed, depending on the pairing it could use a bit more.
Nice!
Indeed
BS Node N130 cheap on eBay 😮
thnx
its called cHiFi since its chinese cheap device,
@MattCoykendall1 Serious problem? Maybe, maybe not. With the right expectations, maybe an opportunity to enjoy music on the cheap. The platform will get better, but won’t get to be a premium sound product, probably ever. Still, love the WiiM platform. Sitting on two Mini’s until things mature a bit. Love your channel my friend, keep it going.
Sometimes the titles have to push the limits a bit for clicks, lots of competition out there! One this is for certain, the price is right.
@@MattCoykendall1 Your titles are a lot more modest than some others. (not naming names 🙃)
