The 1860s are very attractive; as you say, the proportions are flattering on everyone!
The mid 19th century really knew how to accentuate women's' bodies!
The transitional silhouette of the very late 1860s and early 1870s is one of my favorite silhouettes.
1867-1869 and 1838-1840 are my favorite time periods ever!
At a parade in Richmond Virginia of Confederate Civil War reenactors, around 1990, I was amazed to see how much space women in hoop skirts took up. In 2020 hoop skirts could have been used for social distancing. My favorite period is Edwardian 1890-1905.
I know a lot of reenactor women who choose very large hoops for the 'wow' factor but most every day 1860s hoops were not that large. I find that even my 110" hoop (my biggest), when standing and chatting with other people in hoops, our dresses just barely touch at a comfortable chatting distance. The hoops actually help define a comfortable personal space bubble that isn't too big (to where you feel too far away to have a personal conversation) but also doesn't allow people to get all up in your personal space.
I love the 1930s! I'm going to make an outfit change into that style!
I'm not the biggest fan of 1930s on myself, but I totally see the appeal on other people!
To me, the 1860’s holds a special place because that’s where I began my costumed interpretation in! I love all the vibrant colours and fashion styles, and as someone who’s somewhat new to sewing pieces from this time period, I appreciate the rectangle panels of skirts like you mentioned :)
I also started in the 1860s!
i'm starting out with historical sewing, also in the 1860's!
@@smatthews72 The 1860s is a great place to start! So much information to start from!

I love the last dress because it's in the red family and it appears to be made of tafetta. Besides cotton, tafetta is one of my favorite materials to wear.
If I remember correctly, that original was silk taffeta. I used a silk tissue taffeta for my reproduction of it.
@@KatelynKearns You made that?! 😍
@@kringle-jelly Several years ago, yes I did. :) It's one of my favorite reproduction dresses.
I like the fact that you don't have to have a perfect body to look good in 1960s fashions.
Exactly! I love that everything below the waist is covered,
