I love the difference between the sands of tide and requiem motifs. Requiem has this underlying sadness to it fitting for minos's character, a man who feels he had failed his people time and time again and suffered a tragic fate because of his mistakes, the combination of the violin and choir emphasizing both his greatness as a king and the tragedy he suffered. With the sands of tide leitmotif there is no such somber tone, sisyphus doesn't regret a single thing he did in life or in the afterlife because he takes constant joy in his rebellion against the inevitable. The motif rises with the trumpet then peaks with that guitar riff, then repeats, mirroring sisyphus's punishment of rolling a rock up a hill only for it to fall once it reaches the top. Yet even despite this torturous fate, the motif remains aggressive and almost upbeat, showing that regardless of the constant grueling repetition, sisyphus was still happy.
Man even the drums sound like each defiant step inching towards the inevitable futility of Sisyphus’s struggle, while the main melody and subtle death odyssey in the background shows a complete lack of regret on the part of Sisyphus. Probably not as good or iconic as the requiem leitmotif imo but it still goes hard as nails. 10/10
Even though Sisyphus is currently the hardest boss in the game, he is VERY underrated as a character. The king with a reserve of will as iron as his balls, unlike Minos, he ready to kill if he needs it. He rebelled against heaven, realizing that his struggle is useless, and this only makes his willpower cast iron and really makes others respect him. His leitmotif describes his lore as a cruel but good ruler... I don't know how to explain his attraction. In short, if Minos is Gigachad, then Sisyphus is Misunderstood Mega Gigachad.
I honestly think the only thing holding back Sisyphus was how his motifs were used less than Minos's motifs. The sheer power of Sands of Tide completely won me over when I first heard it.
