I used a 00000 guard and faded it up to about a #2 then blended the rest by hand. The side with the part is disconnected and the opposite side and back are blended.

Try blow drying your hair in different directions. Not just the direction you want the cowlick to lay.
If you grow your hair out the cowslicks should be as annoying
