Wow Pile no.2 was spot on fr 💯 Our connection was solid at first but then due to other issues surfacing we ended up being friends (or rather I had to draw boundaries). Such good advice about giving yourself room to react. I've found so many people make assumptions about what relationships mean, or what certain gestures mean for the relationship. I once had a BF who was so scared of losing me, he read into things without clarifying. I gifted him a shirt, and later found out he had somehow taken it to mean we were actually engaged. Apparently the exchanging of material possessions equated in his mind to long term commitment. To me, it was a case of seeing a shirt I thought he'd look good in. I didn't even love him. Just an example of how things can get misunderstood. Breathe, step back, clarify. Now I'm all topsy turvy over another guy, and can see how I need to step back and give myself room without assuming that this means that. If he gave me a ring, I think I'd pass out.
