They are internationally popular band. They were touring Europe and the US starting in 2016. They actually have a larger fanbase outside outside of Japan than in Japan. FYI, the lyrics are written by the rhythm guitarist, vocalist. She also the founder of the band.
Akane Hirose's solo in "Freedom" is one of the most melodious drum solos I've ever heard. This is a band worth observing. When they tour the United States, keep an eye out for RUclips fan-cam postings and you'll see what an incredible live band these ladies are. They're tight, but listen closely to Kanami's guitar; she composes most of Band-Maid's music and it's fun to see the small variations she make from one performance to the next and you can tell she is living the dream. And the rest of the Maids are too: their smiles are infectious and a happier hard Rock band doesn't exist If they tour through your area, they're definitely worth a long drive and an overnight stay to see them perform: they really connect with their audience. I saw them twice on their 10th Anniversary Tour. I saw them in a small club in Detroit and at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus.
band maid is mainly hard rock but they do range from punk rock, groove, classic rock all the way to a few metal like songs. Their audience is world wide, they tour everywhere as well. They have well over 100 songs on a dozen albums and from the 4th album on they write their own music and as of last month with their new album Epic Narratives, they ended with their production company, started their own company MAIDIT and now self produce. They are a live performance band as this video shows, I have seen them live they are that talented live and put on the best shows. Miku is the band leader, who put it all together, rhythm guitar and writes the lyrics, Kanami is the lead guitarist but writes all the music, she is so good at composing and arraigning music I would not be surprised if she starts doing that for movies or others. Saiki is the lead singer, though on their acoustic concert a few weeks ago, (they do these rock songs acoustic) she was on a piano. Akane is the drummer, one of the best in the world, there are in fact more extremely talented japanese female drummers and guitarists in japan(check out Junna) and Misa is the base player, few play at her level anywhere in the world, she has this seemingly impossible talent to tuck her pick in her hand and instantly switch from picking and slapping. This band is one of the best in the world and one of the few bands that can play live as well as they can in a studio.

The only group I would know more about is mamamoo, recommended because they are among the best of the best vocal groups on the planet. More on band maid, Miku has her own group Cluppo, more pop but she is great (she formed band maid also) and thier is a group name Band Maiko, a forth of july joke from band maid but they did release an album as that group name and Gion Cho is a new song there(the rest are redone band maid songs)
Excellent reaction. I have been a fan of Band-Maid for over 5 years and the first 6 months I wasn’t blown away by Saiki either. Until I saw them play live and she blew my Sox off. She is currently my favorite vocalist ever.
A commentor a while back said that Band Maid judges "Freedom" is their simplest song to play (not counting Akane's solo) so you'll see a lot of movement by them and goofing around.
Welcome back to band maid! I don’t know if part of the video was edited out, but when you pause during the solo it seemed like you jumped forward 10 seconds and Suzie missed Kanami showing off at the end of the solo. As many others have mentioned, Band Maid’s new album dropped last week and there is a new video today called Forbidden Tale that you should absolutely watch.

@@theonlinemusicschool Rock version first though, it's a very challenging song vocally (for goodness sake Saiki take a breath) and is just a brilliant rock song. The Acoustic version is magical for the emotion (and Kanami's sweet backing vocals), known to make grown men's eyes water which I think in itself demonstrates what a good singer Saiki is when it does that without the need to understand a single word. There is also an acoustic video of a second song 'Anemone' which they sang straight after Puzzle which In my opinion is even more emotional, even Saiki looked as if she was tearing up at the end. Anemone happens to be my favourite BM song anyway and when you know the lyrics as well and you have been in the same situation they sing about, as I have, then it has a particularly strong impact

I can name a ton of more technical singers than Saiki, but there isn't a band that I enjoy more than Band-Maid. I think where she really excels is stage presence, the emotion she puts into her performance, and percussive vocals (and breath control as part of this). Sometimes the way the music, or the way the lyrics are written can get in the way of showcasing all of it, but an emotional song like Puzzle, where the English bits are kept separate from the Japanese bits, really lets her get into her flow, and you can really see what makes her special.
@@theonlinemusicschool I agree with daaaaaave , Yuko Suzuhana from Wagakki band and Hanafugetsu is probably my favourite singer of all time, and technically beyond brilliant, but she couldn't do what Saiki does. Watch anything from the Yokohama Arena gig and watch a great vocalist and frontwoman who was in action for 3½ hours without losing energy, power, or vocal nuance.
@@spaolozzi53 Plus Saiki has clearly improved in recent years as well. For instance, at their 10-Year Anniversary show she was fantastic. She shows her skills best in their rock ballads. A beautiful vibrato.
I really enjoyed your reaction guys. I am 6 months in to Bandmaid and they are not a gimmick. They are fantastic musicians. My favorite is Thrill live version, Dice and Domination. I listen to a lot of international music and don't even think about the lyrics not being in English any more. Good music is just that. BTW, I lover her vocals. You will too after a minute.
What timing Nate! Band-Maid just released a new music video 7 hours ago. (04-Oct-2024) It's called Forbidden tale from their new album Epic Narratives. This might appeal to Suzie as Saiki's vocals are superbly improved since this Live performance.
Key aspect of Band Maid is the song comes first. Each part does not stand out unless it serves the song. Saiki is a great vocalist. But she is not called on to show impressive vocal technique in many songs. Try Wonderland for a song that does ask her to do more. Also any of their acoustic songs lets her voice shine thru.
Band-Maid is the happiest band on the planet. They truly love what they are doing and appreciate their fans for supporting them. Not every band will write a song as a thank you letter to their fans, or write a song especially for the fans to sing along with them. That "moment" that went on between the lead and rhythm guitar players is rooted back a ways. At one point Miku (rhythm guitar & vocals) botched that lead vocal part in this song, so Kanami (lead guitar) now makes her way over to Miku and stares her down during that part, just to mess with her a bit. It's all in good fun, and things such as that are just part of the charisma of Band-Maid. And, you will not find a happier drummer than Akane Hirose. Being happy and an excellent musician is a good combination. Another thing that the band does for fun is gather around Akane and make funny faces at her to screw up her playing. The trouble with that is Akane is better at making faces than they are and just returns the favor.
You just heard on of the least complex vocals songs Band Maid plays.......Do Not make that type of vocal analysis after one song. Saiki has one of the best female voices I have ever heard !!!!!!!!
Welcome Suzie! If you want to do it, learn to play drums or whatever instrument you like, don't let anybody tell you that you can't. Maybe you don't get as good as Akane here, but then again few are, and you might have fun trying. And then again, who knows, maybe you're the best drummer ever, waiting to be discovered. There's a fun moment at the beginning of the 2nd verse, when Miku is singing lead. This live show was the 2nd of 2 straight nights at the same venue with different set lists. Kanami (lead guitarist/music composer) sat down to watch Miku ( main lyricist/founder of the band) sing because the night before, Miku had flubbed some of the lyrics to their song "Bubble". Hence the lovingly side-eye Miku was giving her and Kanami's big smile. There's also a moment when they gather around Akane (drums), they are playing a game of Hengao, essentially making funny faces to mess up Akane. They do like to play around on stage, even today as they are in their early 30's. Kanami just celebrated her Birthday with the release of their new album. Also, they just released a new MV today for the song "Forbidden tale" 🤘

Great honest reaction. Some don't like Saiki's voice and that's up to each individuals taste, so I respect the opinion. I hope Suzie does listen to more Band-Maid. I'm sure she'll come to understand the vocal talent and fit Saiki is for the Maids. As you, Sir, have listened to a lot of Band-Maid, and you are a music teacher, maybe you can find a song which will have vocals which will appeal to her ear, to easy her into Saiki's voice.😉 PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
I have a feeling that, with a lot of bands from a different culture, there is a bit of "acclimitization" (I think that's the right word?) needed. There are near-intangible differences that are hard to describe and take a little getting used to. I'm still on a learning curve with the squeaky Japanese female singer (e.g. Silent Siren) bands. Similarly, Shiina Ringo blows my mind but I know most of my musician friends would be put off by the vocal timbre at first. It's akin to learning about a well- developed subgenre, like the varieties of growly metal if one didn't follow how those developed.

But will Suzie fall down the maidiac hole? 🙂! I know people differ, and Saiki's vocals move me to tears of joy and sadness, fill me with anger and anguish, warmth and enthusiasm and humor (Miku and Kanami too, when they get the chance) perfectly serving me the stories. Puzzle acoustic showcases this dramatically, where she chose to strain and struggle rather than using easier or prettier techniques -- instilling in listeners the intended anguish of the story and earning criticism from vocal experts. It is a rare treasure to hear a few notes of sultry blues or scat from her -- more often she has to be the rhythm section -- they use vocals like additional instruments. In Warning, Miku sings backup to a guitar solo 🙂 There're places in Domination where Saiki's vocal is the only instrument on the beat, and Influencer (beautiful MV, and yes it's about social media) has an impressively rhythmic vocal surprise. Her vocals in the stripped-back ballad Memorable (MV) are extremely clear and unadorned. I like Alone's harmonic intervals (first company-allowed BM-authored song), and the old song Freezer showcases both Saiki and Miku in a very catchy way. Manners (I like the live with-Black-Hole version better) has a short extreme vocal and also a catchy atonal rhythmic glissando of sorts (oh and continuous impressive bass artistry, even during the guitar solo).

Nice of you to show your favorite to Suzie. I have seen this done several times, someone wanting to show something you like and adore for a new one. It is not easy. As can be seen here when Suzie wonders what she shall listen to to hear the fantastic things. And she heard the drums, of course. And she heard the guitar. Now, this is a nice and simple song, Neither the guitar not the bass is really doing anything spectacular. So, then it is nothing to hear. Get me right - it is a good song. But BAND-MAID has other songs that really show them off. Actually they have many. You can show her the live version of "Hate?" to show lead guitar, bass and drums and even singing I think. Or you could show the MV for "From now on". Or maybe just show some good song and she will get it.

Akane Hirose's solo in "Freedom" is one of the most melodious drum solos I've ever heard. This is a band worth observing. When they tour the United States, keep an eye out for RUclips fan-cam postings and you'll see what an incredible live band these ladies are. They're tight, but listen closely to Kanami's guitar; she composes most of Band-Maid's music and it's fun to see the small variations she make from one performance to the next and you can tell she is living the dream. And the rest of the Maids are too: their smiles are infectious and a happier hard Rock band doesn't exist
If they tour through your area, they're definitely worth a long drive and an overnight stay to see them perform: they really connect with their audience. I saw them twice on their 10th Anniversary Tour. I saw them in a small club in Detroit and at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus.

Band-Maid are the best progressive hard rock band on the planet. They are also the happiest band ever.
band maid is mainly hard rock but they do range from punk rock, groove, classic rock all the way to a few metal like songs. Their audience is world wide, they tour everywhere as well. They have well over 100 songs on a dozen albums and from the 4th album on they write their own music and as of last month with their new album Epic Narratives, they ended with their production company, started their own company MAIDIT and now self produce. They are a live performance band as this video shows, I have seen them live they are that talented live and put on the best shows. Miku is the band leader, who put it all together, rhythm guitar and writes the lyrics, Kanami is the lead guitarist but writes all the music, she is so good at composing and arraigning music I would not be surprised if she starts doing that for movies or others. Saiki is the lead singer, though on their acoustic concert a few weeks ago, (they do these rock songs acoustic) she was on a piano. Akane is the drummer, one of the best in the world, there are in fact more extremely talented japanese female drummers and guitarists in japan(check out Junna) and Misa is the base player, few play at her level anywhere in the world, she has this seemingly impossible talent to tuck her pick in her hand and instantly switch from picking and slapping. This band is one of the best in the world and one of the few bands that can play live as well as they can in a studio.

The only group I would know more about is mamamoo, recommended because they are among the best of the best vocal groups on the planet. More on band maid, Miku has her own group Cluppo, more pop but she is great (she formed band maid also) and thier is a group name Band Maiko, a forth of july joke from band maid but they did release an album as that group name and Gion Cho is a new song there(the rest are redone band maid songs)

@@theonlinemusicschool Rock version first though, it's a very challenging song vocally (for goodness sake Saiki take a breath) and is just a brilliant rock song. The Acoustic version is magical for the emotion (and Kanami's sweet backing vocals), known to make grown men's eyes water which I think in itself demonstrates what a good singer Saiki is when it does that without the need to understand a single word. There is also an acoustic video of a second song 'Anemone' which they sang straight after Puzzle which In my opinion is even more emotional, even Saiki looked as if she was tearing up at the end. Anemone happens to be my favourite BM song anyway and when you know the lyrics as well and you have been in the same situation they sing about, as I have, then it has a particularly strong impact

I can name a ton of more technical singers than Saiki, but there isn't a band that I enjoy more than Band-Maid. I think where she really excels is stage presence, the emotion she puts into her performance, and percussive vocals (and breath control as part of this). Sometimes the way the music, or the way the lyrics are written can get in the way of showcasing all of it, but an emotional song like Puzzle, where the English bits are kept separate from the Japanese bits, really lets her get into her flow, and you can really see what makes her special.

@@theonlinemusicschool I agree with daaaaaave , Yuko Suzuhana from Wagakki band and Hanafugetsu is probably my favourite singer of all time, and technically beyond brilliant, but she couldn't do what Saiki does. Watch anything from the Yokohama Arena gig and watch a great vocalist and frontwoman who was in action for 3½ hours without losing energy, power, or vocal nuance.
@@spaolozzi53 Plus Saiki has clearly improved in recent years as well. For instance, at their 10-Year Anniversary show she was fantastic. She shows her skills best in their rock ballads. A beautiful vibrato.

Key aspect of Band Maid is the song comes first. Each part does not stand out unless it serves the song. Saiki is a great vocalist. But she is not called on to show impressive vocal technique in many songs. Try Wonderland for a song that does ask her to do more. Also any of their acoustic songs lets her voice shine thru.

Band-Maid is the happiest band on the planet. They truly love what they are doing and appreciate their fans for supporting them. Not every band will write a song as a thank you letter to their fans, or write a song especially for the fans to sing along with them.
That "moment" that went on between the lead and rhythm guitar players is rooted back a ways. At one point Miku (rhythm guitar & vocals) botched that lead vocal part in this song, so Kanami (lead guitar) now makes her way over to Miku and stares her down during that part, just to mess with her a bit. It's all in good fun, and things such as that are just part of the charisma of Band-Maid.
And, you will not find a happier drummer than Akane Hirose. Being happy and an excellent musician is a good combination. Another thing that the band does for fun is gather around Akane and make funny faces at her to screw up her playing. The trouble with that is Akane is better at making faces than they are and just returns the favor.

There's a fun moment at the beginning of the 2nd verse, when Miku is singing lead. This live show was the 2nd of 2 straight nights at the same venue with different set lists. Kanami (lead guitarist/music composer) sat down to watch Miku ( main lyricist/founder of the band) sing because the night before, Miku had flubbed some of the lyrics to their song "Bubble". Hence the lovingly side-eye Miku was giving her and Kanami's big smile. There's also a moment when they gather around Akane (drums), they are playing a game of Hengao, essentially making funny faces to mess up Akane. They do like to play around on stage, even today as they are in their early 30's. Kanami just celebrated her Birthday with the release of their new album. Also, they just released a new MV today for the song "Forbidden tale" 🤘

I have a feeling that, with a lot of bands from a different culture, there is a bit of "acclimitization" (I think that's the right word?) needed. There are near-intangible differences that are hard to describe and take a little getting used to. I'm still on a learning curve with the squeaky Japanese female singer (e.g. Silent Siren) bands. Similarly, Shiina Ringo blows my mind but I know most of my musician friends would be put off by the vocal timbre at first.
It's akin to learning about a well- developed subgenre, like the varieties of growly metal if one didn't follow how those developed.
Thoroughly enjoyed that reaction to one of my favourite songs and bands.. You two are great together.

I know people differ, and Saiki's vocals move me to tears of joy and sadness, fill me with anger and anguish, warmth and enthusiasm and humor (Miku and Kanami too, when they get the chance) perfectly serving me the stories. Puzzle acoustic showcases this dramatically, where she chose to strain and struggle rather than using easier or prettier techniques -- instilling in listeners the intended anguish of the story and earning criticism from vocal experts. It is a rare treasure to hear a few notes of sultry blues or scat from her -- more often she has to be the rhythm section -- they use vocals like additional instruments. In Warning, Miku sings backup to a guitar solo 🙂
There're places in Domination where Saiki's vocal is the only instrument on the beat, and Influencer (beautiful MV, and yes it's about social media) has an impressively rhythmic vocal surprise. Her vocals in the stripped-back ballad Memorable (MV) are extremely clear and unadorned. I like Alone's harmonic intervals (first company-allowed BM-authored song), and the old song Freezer showcases both Saiki and Miku in a very catchy way. Manners (I like the live with-Black-Hole version better) has a short extreme vocal and also a catchy atonal rhythmic glissando of sorts (oh and continuous impressive bass artistry, even during the guitar solo).

Both of you really need to listen to Band Maid songs like: "I Still Seek Revenge" (Official MV or Live); Toi et Moi (brand new -- no official video yet); "Warning" (Official MV); "Without Holding Back" and "From Now On" (instrumentals, MVs); "Hate?" (Official Live); "Forbidden Tale" (new, Official MV). This will give you a much better understanding of what they can do. ("Freedom" is an early 'Middle Era' Band Maid song -- a lot has happened since then [they are working on their 11th year as a band]).

Can you imagine a woman who is so dedicated to the idea of her band being HUGE that she fires her self as the lead singer and hires a better singer then learns guitar scratch so she can back up Kanami who plays lead? No way she was going to work in a Maid Cafe till they said she was too old That;'s Miku. Oh and the most fun way to have a slightlyh twisted intro to the idea of a Maid Cafe is to watch the first Baby Assassins movie
Miyako of Lovebites also is classically trained on piano from age 3 and at 19 bought a guitar and an advanced metal songbook and taught herself guitar.
next try "Hate?" live at Yokohama Arena. It shows of the bass and guitar. It's all in Japanese but the subtitles make it obvious what it's about without even having to read most of them

Nice of you to show your favorite to Suzie. I have seen this done several times, someone wanting to show something you like and adore for a new one. It is not easy. As can be seen here when Suzie wonders what she shall listen to to hear the fantastic things. And she heard the drums, of course. And she heard the guitar. Now, this is a nice and simple song, Neither the guitar not the bass is really doing anything spectacular. So, then it is nothing to hear. Get me right - it is a good song. But BAND-MAID has other songs that really show them off. Actually they have many. You can show her the live version of "Hate?" to show lead guitar, bass and drums and even singing I think. Or you could show the MV for "From now on". Or maybe just show some good song and she will get it.

Lovebites is the all female band for english lyrics the accent is the only thing to navigate over after awile Lovebites Asami's word you can clearly hear her English one of their ballads Edge of the world she holds the note incredibly long time-Midori and Miyako (M&M) best guitar duo since Murray-Smith and Downing-Tipton Haruna beats her drums like they stole her boyfriend and Both bassists in this bands history are great Fami the current bassist since 2022 I hear her clearly in songs the previous bassist Founded the band much like her Idol Steve Harris founded Iron Maiden.
