I am a Mindanaoan Eskrima practitioner and I find a lot of our movements and principles very similar to Silat which makes me believe that we came from the same south eastern family of martial arts. I find these techniques very effective and very helpful. Keep it up

I also wish that this guy would release instructional DVDs, since all
online Silat material out there are pretty bad. On a side note,
Lapu-Lapu was actually Brunei royalty and in some parts of Mindanao they
call Kali - Silat. Pretty interesting, right?

Great videos all of them Maul is awesome and I am grateful that he is willing to share details of his family Silat lineage. I study a very old style of Sumatrian Silat and what maul does reminds me of what I'm doing which has been difficult for me to find. What he is doing is authentic Silat i can see the numbers of the Desar when he moves which makes it easy for me to follow along and learn what he is doing. No matter the style it's all Silat!

Your work is beyond efficient and absolutely functional and on a level that is absolutely from the Himalayas sir. I smile saying this, but I've seen you cut what I think is a five inch tree completely in half with one swift slice....(one slice)...I'm absolutely certain that you would be able to remove an arm, leg,....head also with one swift slice. This put together with your vast skillset and knowledge has caused me to study your videos for years and years....and years. You are truly a SUPER impressive instructor sir, and when it comes to ending an attack as soon as it starts (as in immediately), I've learned to absolutely be efficient from years of watching and practicing over, and over, and over.....from your videos (to the point where my associates and I absolutely KNOW that your teachings work....and work quickly and efficiently). Thank you sir for your meticulous attention to detail, and your years of wisdom given through your videos. The five of us come from the same black belt Taekwondo class many-many-many years ago, and have been training sooooooooo many of your techniques for several years now when we can. These sessions (when we meet from time to time) last for hours, and have been super productive...open hands, and with many different tools. We also train in Kali....I've clearly rambled too-too long, and I apologize for this sir. Please just know that there are five of us, that have been studying you, and your phenomenal techniques for many years now, and we are very-very greatful for your knowledge. It's wonderful to know that this information absolutely works under pressure.....your knowledge is absolute gold sir. Thank you Mr. Maul Mornie for being who you are sir. Please stay in good health, and be well.

depends on the situation and on the energy of the attack. besides, if u parry, u can run into a bate or break your blade.

Have more than two hundred silat styles. The silat it is came from south east Asia. And also every silat of any country are very different and good also hard to learn.
The brunei silat: silat suffian bela diri of master maul mornie.
The Filipino silat: silat eskrima escrima kali arnis of master evan tai.
The Indonesian silat it's pencack silat of iko uwais and yayan ruhian also cecep arif Rahman.
The Malaysia silat- silat seni gayong.
The silat are very old martial arts but the most powerful vs real world dangerous against real life situations

+InFamouzBX from what I know, Silat Suffian is like JKD, a mixed of modern techniques embed into the silat. But i could be wrong. Hopefully guru Maul can address this.

Sorry SSBD is not JKD. The techniques shown are traditional silat applications and traditional fighting strategies. SSBD is a traditional Bruneian martial art from north borneo.
The JKD curriculum absorbs silat into its training methods not the other way around.

I parry a blade strike with the side of my bolo or its back blade. just twist your bolo or machete to it side or back. Try it and let me know if i am telling a lie. I am using my bolo like that in parrying -in case. that is what i learned in the backyard training here in my country.

you do not need to learn bladed fighting arts to know what is real if you were born and raised using a bolo since childhood to work in the farm and by using it daily you will intuitively learn how to slash and hack with nit. anyone who uses a bolo to work in the field knows that when your bolo hit a rock or even hitting several times hard bamboo and woods will make the bolo sharp edge dull. Even when slashing your bolo to clean the vegetation will make your bolo dull that you have to sharpen again to make efficient in cutting vegetation.

+Marco Concas If you see similarities, it is understandable, because there are only so many ways you can move and control the human body, hence the similarities between basic moves and footwork, though different cultures specialize more in different techniques(jiu jutsu and locks etc) and different weapons based on what they were developed for.
