Rock will only have an effect on Wrestlemania. He won't do shit to really affect the revenue for the entire year. Whereas letting HHH continue telling his stories and actually giving us proper pay offs to all these stories have proven that they have a positive effect on WWE's yearly revenue, so much so that WWE is at its most profitable point in history because of that. Cody may not be as big of a star as The Rock but Cody is part of a much bigger collaboration that's makes the company a shit ton more money than The Rock can.

I had a friend who was miserable watching a WWE PPV with me, but only watched it because he was a fan of John Cena in the Peacemaker series and the internet memes. The guy was on his phone the entire time and kept bugging me when John Cena was going to appear. After the show I told him that John Cena was a part timer who only appears after every couple months, my friend never watched wrestling again because to him there was no point since he only watched for John Cena.

I understand you want more people to watch the product & I do too, but you can’t focus solely on the casual fans, cause by doing that, you’ll not only start to lose your hardcore fans, but you might not even get causal fans watching the show to begin with! It’s clear that the Rock needs the WWE more than it needs him, with his reputation taking a downward trend because of him trying and failing to take over the DCEU, his annoying constant promoting of and lying to promote product after product, and a big-enough ego that he has it in his movie contracts that he can never lose a fight on screen. The causal fans he can bring in mean nothing in the long run, they’ll come in to watch the Rock and only the Rock, repeatedly verbally fellatio the Attitude or Ruthless Aggression eras online and trash the current product and stars like they always do whenever WWE comes up in the mainstream, and then dip the second Mania ends never once giving anything other the Rock a chance because they’re too busy jerking their nostalgia boners for their childhood days watching him. One person I remember is follow RUclipsr Tyrone Mangus, Who stop watching WWE back in 2015 and now is casual fan. Every now and then when something important happens like Rock or CM Punk returns he react once and that's it. So he told that he is interested in this match and will watch the that only match of Wrestlemania. Personally it's not casual fans fault it's WWE's fault for not realising their actual viewiers taking us for granted because they know that at the end of the day we gonna watch anyway but what they don't realise is the reason why people like Tyrone Mangus stop watching wrestling altogether is the shit like this happening when they don't respect their hardcore fans so they just become casual fans or stop watching entirely. In short they are losing more than what they are getting.
this exactly was how i felt, i stopped watching wrestling when this whole part-time being the world champion or taking spots from full timers was becoming a thing (not too long after punk left). Speaking to my dad a year and half ago pulled me back in as a casual since watching wrestling was something we used to do together when i was growing up, and the last year i was slowly getting back interested in wwe with seeing them invest in their full time talent with the occassional part-time matches with John Cena and brock lesnar, which was meant to put over up and coming talent. With this happening, I can't help but feel like i was invested the last 1.5 years in the story line for cody rhodes for nothing. I probably feel even more annoyed because I am an anomoly, due to not watching wrestling for an extended period, so I personally don't view rock vs roman as a dream match even when i knew roman was being primed to be the face of the wwe just before i stopped watching. For me, i would prefer a match with the top baby face vs the top heel who are both in their primes instead of a match with the top heel who is the face of the company against a 51 yr old legend, albeit in good shape, is way past is prime to be in the ring to be giving a great match (father time is undefeated).
Imagine being ok with a company spitting in the face of the people who buy the tickets, watch the TV shows, talk about the product and get the merch, just so that people who could not care any less about wrestling might tune in and might stay hooked.
And the stupidest thing about it: a match involving a 51 year old who hasn't wrestled in 12 years, with a hostile philly crowd eating the whole thing alive isn't gonna get anybody hooked. They just wanna be able to get on their press release and brag about the numbers mania 40 did

That match is gonna be lackluster. Even with a No DQ type of stipulation I think it’ll still be lackluster. Rock gets gassed out after hitting 2 moves. And it’s gonna be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! They will eat the match alive! The match most likely will bomb harder than Black Adam did. 3-5 years ago this could’ve worked when Roman was a bland baby face who couldn’t get over and Rock was the last resort. It's dumb to not recognize that these greats are far past they're prime and most of them aren't in a shape to be working matches. Another thing about this whole "it will attract casual fans" argument is the fact that this isn't a sustainable business model. What will you do once all your famous stars like Cena, Brock or Rocky can't wrestle anymore? You'll be left with a roster who essentially hasn't been in the spotlight so they haven't been built as stars and at that point you'll be losing in marketability in the long run.

Bro I second you 100%. Let’s be real, Rock vs Cena 2 may have been good for business on one night, but did it really push the business forward? Did it bring new fans to wrestling? Never head them explain that it did. It was just a big cash out by the company and the guys at the top of the card. We also have a coherent story going on, how do you explain to your non-casual friend how you been watching a product the whole year and the people you been watching are taking a backseat at the most major event of the year for this sport.
The only thing that MIGHT fix it for me is if it turns out that Cody will fight Roman at Elimination Chamber, The Rock interfere by stopping Solo or something and Cody wins, Roman gets pissed and want to get revenge and fights The Rock at Wrestlemania while building a feud for Cody at Mania. This can extend to a rematch between Cody and Roman at Summerslam where Cody wins clean and ends the feud.
In my opinion (Which wouldn't work since WWE is dead on setting it up on having the rock against roman reigns at WrestleMania 40 and CM Punk injury) was to simply had The Rock face against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, have The Rock lose then give Cody Rhodes the spotlight by having him main event WrestleMania and making it a triple threat match between Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes himself because of his royal rumble title shot and then he wins clean similar to Daniel Bryan's winning both titles at W30, but the problem with this is that Seth Rollins wouldn't have anyone to challenge him other then either CM Punk (who's injured) or Cody Rhodes (who's being buried) as well as having CM Punk not being present in WWE at all due to his injury, is suck that all of this happened cause of CM Punk situation.... I honestly feel like had CM PUNK not get injured and won the Royal Rumble then this wouldn't even happened. (Another cool idea my friend also said was to have The Rock and Cody Rhodes face-off at elimination chamber instead as in a way to tell who would be the contender at WrestleMania) Honestly this booking is too messy if you ask me and The Rock really wants to face against Roman Reigns.

Many people still do. I feel that TKO wanted this match to happen to get everyone minds off of Vince McMahob allegations. But I still think this match doesn’t help at all. It just creates more discourse with the fans. Also the people who are not fans either don’t know about The Rock’s match, don’t care, or want to know more about Vince McMahon and if he’s guilty or not.

Cody could come out on Raw and clarify saying "he said 'not at WrestleMania' because he's banking on Rocky walking into it as champion instead." (Since The Rock would hav more honor in their match then Roman ever would.) He's still challenging for the WWE Championship, the question is, who will be champion at Mania? The Rock is challenging Roman at the chamber. EC is going to be at Perth, meaning it'll be a foreign crowd, AKA: most likely a rowdy one at that just like other crowds outside of the U.S. WWE is booking Rock V Roman to get new fans onto the product right? Well seeing the potentially rowdy crowd go crazy during the event could make them go "hey, this actually pretty fun to watch! I want to see more!" Roman will obviously win (in spite of the whole "who will go into Mania as champion angle) And that will just leave Rhodes vs Roman at Mania. I'd like these people to answer 2 questions: a) Why does this dream match need the title? b) What other matches does WWE need to put on to convert these casual fans to regular fans?
You know what I think is going to end up happening. They're going to power through with this match. And then Rock will come out on the Raw after Mania. And he'll endorse Cody as the only guy who can beat Roman. I think he's well aware how bad this makes Cody look. And I think that's how he's going to square this. I hate this. But that's how I see this playing out.

Long-term Storytelling? There literally was NO story telling for The Rock and Roman. There were little hints and teases yes, but up until The Rock mentioned sitting at the head of the table, that's all they were, hints and teases, nothing was set in stone yet. Unlike Cody, who's had this story built up from coming back to the company, to pointing directly at Roman Reigns A WEEK AGO! I wanna see Rock vs Roman, but the timing could not have been any worse than now, and the execution of making the match was absolutely horrendous
I cannot believe that with more people watching and being interested in the wwe than EVER (considering how insanely popular the attitude era was), this company and a section of the fan base who somehow want to jack off to business numbers than actual entertainment STILL want more eyes on the product. How many eyes is enough? 7 billion?
As a casual fan (if you can call me even that) I hadn’t watched WWE since 2016-17. I believe the last match I saw was Roman vs The Undertaker. I stopped caring for the business in general until I heard about the Tribal Chief story. I watched a few videos and highlights on youtube here & there for the past year & I heard how mad the fans were when Cody lost to Roman. I still didn’t care enough to follow closely until the CM Punk return. Then I went back & watched the entire 1-2 hour long videos of bloodline story on yt & I was hooked! I honestly was hoping for The Rock vs Roman but not after Cody won the RR. Royal Rumble was the first PPV I watched in 8 years! Now The Rock just looks like an asshole who likes to steal others’ spotlight.
Ngl I cried at the end the way he said rock took Cody’s story away from him remember when rock was starting out and fans was chanting die rocky die well die rocky die 😭
The only way the Fans can convince WWE and TKO that their decision is utterly idiotic is that they don't show up for the 2nd day of Wrestlemania this year and let the Rock vs Roman Reigns happen in a silent and empty arena. Otherwise, the corporation heads would not budge an inch as they are doing this in the first place because they believe that this will sell more tickets than Cody vs Roman.
They had the opportunity to do it last year in wrestlemania in LA and the rock would not even be taking codys spot like this it's just ridiculous and insane, its so many pay per views that i waited for the rock to at least be apart of the storyline when the bloodline was in there prime it could have happened in money in the bank 2021 when john cena return he got the loudest reaction and pop that night and that match I'm pretty sure it drew alot of attention when john was back especially the promo they had on Smackdown, something that bothers me the bloodline storyline should have ended with jey uso defeating roman at Summerslam and then right now rock vs roman would make more sense, for a non title 1 on 1 Match at Mania

Some people want this match to happen so wwe can be the talk of the town in mainstream for a few days and willingly put this 2 year long story further on hold(whilst also assasinating Cody's character since it makes 0 sense for his character to willingly step aside for the Rock) like???? book this match any other year and it wouldve been just fine.

I truly hope that the fan outrage online is brought into every live crowd moving forward. This is the first time in my time as a wrestling fan that I am not looking forward to WrestleMania, and that's really saying something because I stopped watching WWE regularly from 2017-2020 and yet I still was excited to watch WrestleMania 34, 35, and 36.

What they did is essentially making us look like dumb f*cks thinking we're gonna sit here and take this because as someone who defended Pro Wrestling my whole life, I deserve a proper main event that makes sense since the beginning in the long term! So The Rock vs. Roman can suck it! (Especially The Rock, TKO, and the WWE management) and give us Cody vs. Reigns at WM40!!! I hope that this upcoming Raw, Smackdown, and the upcoming press conference for WM40 at Vegas fans will voice their frustration, boo the heck out of that sh*t they pulled and let them really know that WE DO NOT WANT THIS! If they ever decide to revert this, I also hope that they come up a storyline leading up to WrestleMania that will result us fans to rally Cody till the end and be tuning hard on the match.
There wouldn’t be such backlash if they’d made it VERY clear that that’s what they wanted. I’m aspiring to be a writer and this is something you absolutely CANNOT do to tell a story people want to see. It’s like Friday the 13th IX, It was retconned into Jason Voorhees’ character that he can only be truly killed by his family. This was never alluded to prior, nor has it been mentioned since. In a similar fashion, The Rock coming out once and saying “should I sit at the head of the table?” is not good enough build up for the Cody backers such as you and me, because it wouldn’t/nor will it ever make sense after Cody wins the Rumble, it needs more than that. In my opinion, Punk should’ve won despite the injury, then he can come out and give the RR win away if he’s legitimately injured, and say “I’m gonna fight even despite my injury!” It’s disappointing because it’s not that hard to give it a halfway decent build-up. Side note, but The Rock’s pushing to win, but that’s not a good idea AT ALL. They better not do that.
Every PLE has been breaking records left and right for like the past 2 years yet WWE still doesn’t have enough faith in their talent to make Wrestlemania a huge record breaking success and they don’t reward the fans for their loyalty. Pandering to casuals/people who don’t really care about the product and MIGHT tune in for one person is a terrible business model. Just ask Disney and Marvel how isolating their core fan base worked out for them…

I had a friend who was miserable watching a WWE PPV with me, but only watched it because he was a fan of John Cena in the Peacemaker series and the internet memes. The guy was on his phone the entire time and kept bugging me when John Cena was going to appear. After the show I told him that John Cena was a part timer who only appears after every couple months, my friend never watched wrestling again because to him there was no point since he only watched for John Cena.
That is what I fear the most. Cuz in the end they won't even care about Fans voices because they will see a spike in viewership and more money because of the Rock. The causal fans he can bring in mean nothing in the long run, they’ll come in to watch the Rock and only the Rock, repeatedly verbally fellatio the Attitude or Ruthless Aggression eras online and trash the current product and stars like they always do whenever WWE comes up in the mainstream, and then dip the second Mania ends never once giving anything other the Rock a chance because they’re too busy jerking their nostalgia boners for their childhood days watching him. One person I remember is follow RUclipsr Tyrone Mangus, Who stop watching WWE back in 2015 and now is casual fan. Every now and then when something important happens like Rock or CM Punk returns he react once and that's it. So he told that he is interested in this match and will watch the that only match of Wrestlemania.
Personally it's not casual fans fault it's WWE's fault for not realising their actual viewiers taking us for granted because they know that at the end of the day we gonna watch anyway but what they don't realise is the reason why people like Tyrone Mangus stop watching wrestling altogether is the shit like this happening when they don't respect their hardcore fans so they just become casual fans or stop watching entirely.
In short they are losing more than what they are getting.

this exactly was how i felt, i stopped watching wrestling when this whole part-time being the world champion or taking spots from full timers was becoming a thing (not too long after punk left). Speaking to my dad a year and half ago pulled me back in as a casual since watching wrestling was something we used to do together when i was growing up, and the last year i was slowly getting back interested in wwe with seeing them invest in their full time talent with the occassional part-time matches with John Cena and brock lesnar, which was meant to put over up and coming talent. With this happening, I can't help but feel like i was invested the last 1.5 years in the story line for cody rhodes for nothing. I probably feel even more annoyed because I am an anomoly, due to not watching wrestling for an extended period, so I personally don't view rock vs roman as a dream match even when i knew roman was being primed to be the face of the wwe just before i stopped watching. For me, i would prefer a match with the top baby face vs the top heel who are both in their primes instead of a match with the top heel who is the face of the company against a 51 yr old legend, albeit in good shape, is way past is prime to be in the ring to be giving a great match (father time is undefeated).
Philly is going to boo this match out the building.

That match is gonna be lackluster. Even with a No DQ type of stipulation I think it’ll still be lackluster. Rock gets gassed out after hitting 2 moves. And it’s gonna be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! They will eat the match alive! The match most likely will bomb harder than Black Adam did. 3-5 years ago this could’ve worked when Roman was a bland baby face who couldn’t get over and Rock was the last resort. Another thing about this whole "it will attract casual fans" argument is the fact that this isn't a sustainable business model. What will you do once all your famous stars like Cena, Brock or Rocky can't wrestle anymore? You'll be left with a roster who essentially hasn't been in the spotlight so they haven't been built as stars and at that point you'll be losing in marketability in the long run.

Bro I second you 100%. Let’s be real, Rock vs Cena 2 may have been good for business on one night, but did it really push the business forward? Did it bring new fans to wrestling? Never head them explain that it did. It was just a big cash out by the company and the guys at the top of the card.
We also have a coherent story going on, how do you explain to your non-casual friend how you been watching a product the whole year and the people you been watching are taking a backseat at the most major event of the year for this sport.
The only thing that MIGHT fix it for me is if it turns out that Cody will fight Roman at Elimination Chamber, The Rock interfere by stopping Solo or something and Cody wins, Roman gets pissed and want to get revenge and fights The Rock at Wrestlemania while building a feud for Cody at Mania.
This can extend to a rematch between Cody and Roman at Summerslam where Cody wins clean and ends the feud.
But then you're making Cody's story secondary to some shitty match between a washed up moviestar and roman

In my opinion (Which wouldn't work since WWE is dead on setting it up on having the rock against roman reigns at WrestleMania 40 and CM Punk injury) was to simply had The Rock face against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, have The Rock lose then give Cody Rhodes the spotlight by having him main event WrestleMania and making it a triple threat match between Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes himself because of his royal rumble title shot and then he wins clean similar to Daniel Bryan's winning both titles at W30, but the problem with this is that Seth Rollins wouldn't have anyone to challenge him other then either CM Punk (who's injured) or Cody Rhodes (who's being buried) as well as having CM Punk not being present in WWE at all due to his injury, is suck that all of this happened cause of CM Punk situation.... I honestly feel like had CM PUNK not get injured and won the Royal Rumble then this wouldn't even happened.
(Another cool idea my friend also said was to have The Rock and Cody Rhodes face-off at elimination chamber instead as in a way to tell who would be the contender at WrestleMania)

EC is going to be at Perth, meaning it'll be a foreign crowd, AKA: most likely a rowdy one at that just like other crowds outside of the U.S.
WWE is booking Rock V Roman to get new fans onto the product right? Well seeing the potentially rowdy crowd go crazy during the event could make them go "hey, this actually pretty fun to watch! I want to see more!"
Roman will obviously win (in spite of the whole "who will go into Mania as champion angle) And that will just leave Rhodes vs Roman at Mania. AKA, the biggest PLE every year for WWE, AKA thing that the NEW FANS will be directed towards and marketted as something EVEN bigger than EC.
This is all they have to do, I know Roman wasn't promoted to be at EC, but at this rate, it's probably the best course of action.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, the aew audience will be glad to have him back, at least at first.

There were little hints and teases yes, but up until The Rock mentioned sitting at the head of the table, that's all they were, hints and teases, nothing was set in stone yet. Unlike Cody, who's had this story built up from coming back to the company, to pointing directly at Roman Reigns A WEEK AGO! I wanna see Rock vs Roman, but the timing could not have been any worse than now, and the execution of making the match was absolutely horrendous

As a casual fan (if you can call me even that) I hadn’t watched WWE since 2016-17. I believe the last match I saw was Roman vs The Undertaker. I stopped caring for the business in general until I heard about the Tribal Chief story. I watched a few videos and highlights on youtube here & there for the past year & I heard how mad the fans were when Cody lost to Roman. I still didn’t care enough to follow closely until the CM Punk return. Then I went back & watched the entire 1-2 hour long videos of bloodline story on yt & I was hooked! I honestly was hoping for The Rock vs Roman but not after Cody won the RR. Royal Rumble was the first PPV I watched in 8 years! Now The Rock just looks like an asshole who likes to steal others’ spotlight.

There wouldn’t be such backlash if they’d made it VERY clear that that’s what they wanted. I’m aspiring to be a writer and this is something you absolutely CANNOT do to tell a story people want to see. It’s like Friday the 13th IX, It was retconned into Jason Voorhees’ character that he can only be truly killed by his family. This was never alluded to prior, nor has it been mentioned since. In a similar fashion, The Rock coming out once and saying “should I sit at the head of the table?” is not good enough build up for the Cody backers such as you and me, because it wouldn’t/nor will it ever make sense after Cody wins the Rumble, it needs more than that. In my opinion, Punk should’ve won despite the injury, then he can come out and give the RR win away if he’s legitimately injured, and say “I’m gonna fight even despite my injury!” It’s disappointing because it’s not that hard to give it a halfway decent build-up. Side note, but The Rock’s pushing to win, but that’s not a good idea AT ALL. They better not do that.
