      Talk about that, when i yeeted someone in the head with a Lamp and knocked him out instantly. (He had a knife, he was a robber, he almost stabbed me, and I didn't like that.)

    This is really from Enbukan, not Bujinkan Ninjutsu. It is very common for Bujinkan/Ninjutsu students to study Enbukan (Enshin Itto Ryu Battojutsu). The school, of the Machida family, is located in the same area as Hatsumi Soke. Also, we like to train to use every possible weapon AND modern object, like a deck of cards, regardless of its "ninja" history.

    @bladeking2013 the wazakashi wasn't really used as a weapon, but for seppuku.

    Though if you are wanting to try santoryuu then I think it is best you design a sword that is custom for holding in your mouth. It should have a mouthpiece on it. It is pretty much impossible to prevent a regular sword from falling out of you mouth even from the lightest attacks.

    Sorry for being 9 months later in this post, but a lot of Ninjas weren't even dressing in black (most had earthy colors for sneaking), but a lot of them were Samurai and diplomats. A sneaky technique they used was to put a Wakizashi, or even a Tanto into a Katana Saya so they could draw faster than their opponent if there was a need to fight.

    @eranamter The Wakizashi was your for lack of a beter word, stand by, say your inside a building, japanese door ways hang kindv'e low, and if you tried a shomenuchi near one you'd hit it plus the katana isn't the longest of blades, but in side of a small room filled with people it feels like it's 30 ft long, so the Wakizashi would beter suit you in that situation. In Regards to seppuku as i understand it was a tanto that was the sword of choice, it's small usually about 10-14 inches in total.

  • @akcorndog69

    ninja did use ninjato, but it wasn't want we see in movies (straight blade). They used a katana that had approx. a 26 in. blade with a 12-13 in. handle in order to have a faster draw speed. they would use a longer sheath around 30 in. to trick the enemy into thinking the ninja had a longer blade, that way the enemy would feel like they had an advantage in speed.

    The typical ninjatō carried by a ninja would most likely have been a wakizashi or shortsword fitted with a katana-length handle and placed in a katana-length saya (scabbard). Hence why any physical evidence may have not been found due to certain specifications of how the blade was visually represented.

    @NinjaLearningNetwork Sharpening it is a much serious crime I'm assuming? That's upsetting. Well thanks for the help. One more question, if you can (I apologize for all this, but I want to learn so much) when the sensei turns the sword to the side before extending the blade out, is it because it is more comfortable and more strength behind it when extended across than diagonally upwards?

    Daito-meaning large sword. A Daito is actually a Katana, though misconceptions say it is larger. The term Daito would be used if the Katana was larger then average, such as Musashi Miyamoto's Katana, since he was well above average height, his Daito was over 30 inches in length, while most Katana's of the time were 26-29 inches.

    I am not a expert in sword play but I have had extensive training in full body attacks. In the video your body seems to stop before the sword is drawn. Wouldn't the point of having a lunging movement while drawing be to use your body weight as additional power? If your body is no longer in motion before the sword is even fully drawn how can it add power? Or was the movement only meant for a longer reach when drawing? Just curious, thanks.

  • @Jarod074
    @Jarod074 11 лет назад

    As far as I know, you can cut horizontally, upwards and downwards out of saya. I can even draw my Katana like tsuka goes above my head (almost behind my head and then cut downwards from upper right to lower left. Not sure if that move would last too long in a real fighting situation. CAUTION: DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME YOU CAN LOOSE YOUR EAR !!! Some guys will do anyway, so do it REAL SLOW !!!! again: BETTER NOT TRY AT ALL !!!!! I will not be responsible if you do and hurt yourself, just DON'T !

    @petersthorn Most sword schools do not require you to be a black belt in anything before hand. I suppose Aikido would state such a rule, but really it sounds like you could have come across a school that is either not legitimate or just really stuck up, so you probably wouldnt have enjoyed it anyways. Keep looking, the training is well worth it. I wish you luck in your search :)

    Ninja's didn't traditionally use the Katana. The Katana was traditionally used by the Samurai. They were expensive pieces of metal and since ninja's were farming peasants not normally rich enough to even get the materials to make their own, they used a Nonjatta, which was similar to the Katana only in its shape and looks, but not quite as sharp, but still touching the blade should probably be a big no go regardless of it being a practice sword or not.

    It is a weird misconception that Ninjutsu practitioners use straight bladed katana with square tsuba called Ninjato. However, ninja have been using curved katana for as long as their existance has been noted/documented. Besides, square tsuba are impractical anyway. Also, the Samurai practice Bushido, which is practiced traditionally with a Katana, but the Katana isn't exclusive only to Samurai.
