Ahhh yes! I should have mentioned that my laptop will not run chirp for some reason and I haven't got the cable yet. I also have a weird notion that programming through the keyboard is a good skill to have. Thanks for the reminder and commenting.
I'm a newly-license Technician, already studying for General. Ordered my Explorer QRZ-1, waiting for it to arrive. I like the fact that it's a "basic" HT, which should make learning the basics of 2m/70dm operation simpler than using a more advanced HT. This will probably become my backup HT for a while, before I donate it to another newly-licensed Ham. Based on everything they say is bundled with it, this is a really good value even at the "full" non-Jumpstart price (still under $60 as I write this). I really hope QRZ and Gigaparts will be able to continue the Jumpstart program, to encourage more people to get their licenses and get started in Ham operation. One suggestion: ADVERTISE the program to non-Hams who are considering getting license. I didn't learn about it after I passed my Technician exam, which means I had already decided to get started. At the time I had very little idea what to get, where to get it, or how much I would need to spend to get started.
Really cool to hear you are getting into the hobby, and I learned a lot from having mine. I love my HT, use it a lot for checking in to our local nets every week.
Congrats on license! The radio still works great. I am studying for the Extra now, but I think it will take me a while to get there. Thanks for commenting.
I just got mine a couple days ago. I was successfully able to program mine using chirp and my baofeng programming cable.

Just watched your video while I'm at work after getting a call from my wife saying my package arrived today. Thanks
You’ll love this little radio. I catch all the local repeaters without a problem.

Looks like a TYT radio. Should work just fine. I just sent up the application for the radio. I took the test on the 6th for Tech and General.

Why are there two frequencies on the display? The one on the top and the one on the bottom?
Two bands you can switch between. Thanks!
How would you stack this against the UV5R ?
I'm not sure, but I would bet it works just as good at least.
Got to start somewhere. Good start.

Thanks! There is so much to learn with this hobby.
