there is a keyboard you can buy for it with a mouse built in. I've used it for since 2017 and it works great

I haven’t tried a bluetooth dongle but if you want to add like a mouse or keyboard with a dongle it works.

I cannot get an external HD to work on this to save my life. Same HD has no issues on any other Android device I have.
That's a bit weird. I did connect my hdd to it and I didn't find problems. Maybe just the one you got? if you can still return it you should.

I think it works with a mouse and you can probably use a keyboard as well. But a mouse should work fine.
