Ouch. I've been chomping at the bit to see if this was gonna be any good. Sure, the models are gorgeous, but you can get bigger, cheaper models; it's all about whether or not the game would be worth playing, and so many of us had such high hopes! You being the first truly objective reviewer to tackle it, you may have saved me a lot of money and a lot of buyer's remorse, and I greatly appreciate that.
OK, I had no idea this even existed. Cody, thanks for profiling this one. I really like the counters that get placed onto the plastic stands under the ships and the data they are reflecting; plus the influence markers are also a great idea too. Another game I need to add to my collection.
Star Trek: Into the Rulebooks. Looks really cool and seems to capture Star Trek which I love... but god dammit, I don't want to spend most of my board gaming looking up rules. Thanks for the review.
I don't for a second think this game will be a success, way too expensive, way too complicated to learn... I'm happy to hear that you had fun at least, and I'm looking forward to playing it when it arrives in a week or so. But at this price, if people don't love it and put out on the table constantly, there's no way they're jumping in on expansion boxes which also cost $150 each. Maybe Wizkids will do themselves a favor and put out a very comprehensive tutorial video series on it. Also the best way to teach rules is through learning games, so I'll also be interested to see the campaign myself and how good a job it does.
I don’t think the single ship expansions will cost $150. That said, this game is gonna eat up my bank account lol. I’ve been telling people that the longer it takes for this game to release, the longer my marriage will last 🤣🤣
I think they blew it. I looks great. They should have made a quick start basic rules then had a book of advanced rules and/or optional rules. Although they could still do it. Maybe a an App could clean things up? Being I play mostly solo this dose not look like solo is an option. Being almost 70 I do not see this in my future. I am a big Advance Squad Leader player. But if a had to learn it now I probably would not. Actually ASL looks like I could get up and playing faster. Not that I am pushing ASL just comapring complex games. Maybe if I was 50 games & 50 years shorter.
Nice looking miniatures but the very expensive cost of the core game and the over engineering of gameplay has put me off. The Wizkids Star Trek Alliance: Dominion War game from a few years ago looks more appealing with its less complex gameplay.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I'd preordered this when initially announced. Like many I thought / assumed it would be Trek Armada which is what I wanted. Over time as more info became available and the release date was pushed back I came to the realization that this wasn't for me and I cxld my preorder. I didn't care for the fiddly little 'paddles' , huge rules, or even really the setting. I've never been much of a next gen fan and certainly not DS 9 so this failed in several areas. I wanted something beyond Attack Wing with fleet actions to have big fights with great looking ships that was fairly easy to get into, this isn't that game. Maybe they'll do a variant at some point that accommodates that style of play but for now this is a pass and this review confirms I made the right decision. BTW I enjoyed your other reviews of Frontiers and Ascendency both of which I have and have yet to get to the table. I do also have Fleet Captains and think it's terrific. Appreciate your work.

It has a lot of cool stuff. The models are great and the dashboards and cards are a great part of the system.
This is my #1 most anticipated game of 2024. I can’t wait for it to arrive!
I hope it's everything you want it to be.

I too would be interested in seeing a comprehensive tutorial from the company. Thanks.

It still looks simple compared to Star Fleet Battles.
From what I remember of playing Star Fleet Battles way back in the day, yes it is.
@@Septulum I never played SFB, but I’ve heard it was a bear. Thanks.

Thanks for your opinion.
So the ST:Ascendancy big box that’s due out next year would be more worthwhile than this?
It depends on if you like Star Trek Ascendancy. They are very different games.

@@WilliamAndersonEugen Make sure you use an Alpha Wave five for standard transfer, or Folded Soup for enhanced rigidity. And thanks!
