This scene was really awesome for showing some finer points of his character. I agree, I have always worried a bit about him turning on us if things went south.. The similarities between Astarion and Fenris were not lost on me and it's why, once again, despite loving Anders and Gale, I have to romance the white haired elves...
From what I saw about him fighting off those spirits could very well be some softie points but also there's the fact that he's overjoyed about having the parasite that blocks Cazador's control. Getting posessed by some strange spirits is probably the last thing Astarion wants.
wow, I've never seen Astarion talk about wanting to kill Shadowheart. Usually there is a dialogue where he says that he wants to kill Gale (that's sound funny if you have romance with Astarion and Gale in the same game))
Yep! I had been thinking about that and that's the reason why I always gave him the book. I mean, it's necromancy so it's clear he wants to use it on himself! I don't think he has somebody back home (lol), like a lover or anything, he wants to resurrect cause he says he has no sweethearts since he prefers them salty :D
But there is a scene in the mirror below the alchemist's hut where he talks about his real home.. makes me wonder if there isn't an old flame.. or family somewhere waaaaay back. But! I think in this case its more.. kill Cazador dead sort of a thing. :D
@@Mmogurl yep :D completely agree! Now that I think about it, I never saw that scene. Tbh I never know what to do with that mirror. xD I need to search how to interact with it!
Resurrecting either himself or Cazador would probably free Astarion from Cazador's control - if Cazador's alive, he's not Astarion's vampire master anymore. If Astarion is alive, he's not a vampire spawn anymore. Either way would work in Astarion's favor. Of course, simply killing Cazador and drinking his blood from his corpse would also free Astarion from Cazador's control... As a goody-two-shoes, my favorite option would be to rez Astarion somehow. Then he's free to walk in the sun *and* be free of Cazador. Yeah, he won't be an edgy vampire anymore, but it's not like he wanted to be a vampire in the first place (to the best of my knowledge). And he really seems to enjoy being in the sun again after all this time.
The first companion I went after was Gale and had the hardest time getting the weave scene. Well, I finally got the scene and on the night of the party after saying I would spend the night with Gale I went to talk to the other companions. I walked up to Astarion and told him I was spending the night with Gale and he was really annoyed that I told him and got a disapproval from him(he seemed so hurt by that) and that was the moment I was like "Oh my.. I think I made a mistake " and now I'm obsessed with Astarion and can't even look at the others, lol. I had no interest with him at all until that weird moment and now this book scene is so good that I'm glad I made the correct choice of loving Astarion(sorry Gale you're a good friend)!! 😄
Are vampires/vampire spawn considered undead? I thought that was why he might have wanted the book - to help himself rather than someone else, he strikes me as a loner due to Cazador's abuse and possessiveness over him, and well just how he can be generally speaking haha
As for Astarion curing his vampirism... I didn´t give it much thought because the only time I´ve seen someone cured from it were settings where vampirism was basically a virus and Astarion is an actual undead (BTW I would like to hear him describing the moments he died and then came back and that "Oh crap" feeling when he realized it didn´t come for free). I was surprised to learn that it is actually somehow possible to reverse it in this setting with a difficult spell and the main problem with other spells is that they require a corpse and vampires, well, turn to ash when they die. I´m also waiting for the possibility of elven characters calling him out on his obscession with not dying at any cost ("There is that reincarnation thing for us going for us, you know") and him replying in the 10th Doctor Who fashion: Nice, but it wouldn´t be me, not really.
In Baldur's Gate 2, your love interest is turned into a vampire and "killed" by you, then you take him/her to a temple or something and get him/her resurrected? It's been awhile since I've played, but the love interest doesn't turn to ash. Astarion's story might have a callback to that event.
I'm still undecided about Astarion's character. Too many variables! He is evil? Definitely. But is he capable of the same atrocities as Cazador? I don't think so. He's a hedonist who wants his freedom back more than than anything else, and I'm curious how far he can go to get what he wants. We'll see soon.
If I were a dev at Larian, I would allow such ending for him. But it being a fairy tale ending, basically, I would just make it very, very rare and you (and him) would need to work extra hard and really earn it :) Three tasks, three questions and stuff like that.
Astarion LIKES the various powers he gets from Vampirism. He likes power in general. I don't see him giving up Power and Immortality. The only downsides of Vampirism for Astarion is various traumas inflicted by Cazador. I suspect he's looking more for something that frees him of Cazador's control(though the tadpole might do that already), nullifies/counteracts Cazador's more advanced Vampire powers, or even lets him enslave Cazador like Caz did to him....all things I could see made possible through advanced Necromancy. His specific mention of Resurrection is probably either someone he'd like to bring back, or just a more general desire for the power itself. Resurrection is something of a 'Holy Grail' power right up there with immortality. EVERYBODY wants it. So whoever can do it has power and leverage accordingly. And Astarion likes power and leverage.
I loved this new scene! You can have Astarion read the book if you pass a couple of save rolls but it shuts itself afterwards. I do wonder if you get the option and maybe a different scenario if you manage to remove the spirits before reading the tome 🤔
@@Mmogurl That sounds awesome, I did romance Isabela and Anders too but neither came close. Though Isabela is a close second in intensity after that fight with the Arishok 😱
I wanted to get this out earlier, but got bogged down with other things I had to do. Have another one coming on the scene where he accidentally kills you too.
Here’s some dnd lore that may change your perspective of the scene. Spells that raise the dead if cast on an undead, usually bring them back to true life if it is the intent of the caster to do so, and if they became undead within the time range that is within the restrictions of the spell. Now Astarion has been a vampire spawn for 200 years, so even true resurrection won’t suffice. But none the less, it could be him.
It just hit me, Astarion has to technically be alive now... possibly a damphir rather than a vampire spawn (because of the tadpole) since he can be resurrected, magic that should not work on the undead... This would also explain his sudden lack of certain vampiric weaknesses, yet retaining the thirst for blood.
Well, it´s true his condition and abilities are closer to damphir now. But no, he´s still an undead, it is even mentioned sometimes by others and Astarion himself and in his inner monologue in the stargazing scene. The tadpole can do many things but it certainly can´t bring anyone back to life. As for resurrection working on him, that´s just game mechanics. Not sure how seriously can we take resurrection in general. Then again, I never liked how chep death is the video games.
@@Mmogurl Yeah I think that makes him a little bit natural ? I mean mostly he acted selfish, did not want to help anyone, liked it to kill and more more. So this scene... he looks more like a human ? Specially his "hello !" . I really look forward to the release of BD3. I think there will be a lot of more interesting dialogues (with other companions too). I think that my cheeky smile which appear with kind of these scenes will never stop 😁 oh do you write book ? :)
I want to know now what triggers which companion he wants to low-key kill. I've seen other videos where he comments on Lae'zel, and yours is the first I see for Shadowheart. I wonder if it depends on approval rating for Tav, or if it is just random! I have to experiment!
Lots of comments on this, so I went back to check since I had a save before hand and just switched Laezel into my party instead of Shadowheart. And the dialogue switched from Shadowheart to "maybe the gith" so I'd guess it's lowest approval rating of members currently in party.
Puting aside that he is way less edgy and... nicer (?) here than what we´re used, all I can think of is Ash from Evil Dead and Necronomicon. Seven hells, you´re going to release something horrific into the world, Astarion :D By the way, the question of his loyalty is not that complex - he may not have respect for the lives but would never kill anyone who might be beneficial for his survival. Mmogurl, you can also find three not yet released convos with Astarion on Tumble. One of them is spoilerish and deals with the meaning of his scars. The second one is him being drunk on bear´s blood and also talking about power and why he wants it. The third one is pretty sweet - you learn that he doesn´t actually remember what he looks like (therefore all the vanity talk is really just that - big talk) and you can either flatter him or mess with him a little.
I have a general question. It kinda surprises me but the dialogue on who he may kill is pretty different in any of my playthroughs. In one he say Lea'zel, in one Gale..you get the idea. So I'm asking does it depend on something or is it just random?
I'm not sure, but I can tell you some details from my game that might help. So, my party was Shadowheart, Gale, and Asta.. of those particular companions, Shadowheart was the lowest at medium approval, while Gale and Asta were at Very High. Lae'zel was not in the my group at the time, but is lower than Shadowheart at Neutral. It might be lowest of who's in your party?
I wonder if a party member name is chosen at random for Astarion's, 'I won't kill them! Well, Maybe X' line? I got Gale, who I coincidentally had the lowest approval with. I loved this addition and for me it made up for losing the romance moment, seeing as I'd already seen it quite a few times! NEW CONTENT! SHINY! DIFFERENT!! Also this was the first time I actually made it into the Zhentarim hidey hole!
WOOooooo! Where do you get this quest arch? I've gotten the book, but never the quest amithest. I'm collecting all the necromancy items in the game to see if they lead somewhere. They ALL seem to be connected some how.
Underneath the blighted village (there are a couple ways in - the well is one of em) there are some ettercaps and if you keep following the system you'll run into phase spiders.. and eventually the big mama phase spider. Underneath her initial starting spot - like where her eggs are and stuff.. you can find the amethyst. You have to climb down and pick it up off the ground. Easy to see it as it shines in the dark.
@@Mmogurl Thanx for the tip. I finally found it on the right hand side of the bottom. So far my cleric of Myrkul (necromancy) has all the necro items and such. I'm just trying to find out if they will add up to anything.
Oh. I heard 'Can't wait to take him down!' and thought you were talking about taking Astarion down. In a giggity-type manner. 😏 Yeah! That Cazador! Foul beast.
How are you getting all this cool gear? I just finished the Goblin camp, killed the leaders. Found an artifact for Gale. Just found Auntie Ethel who kicked my arse.... 🙄 Now going back to that overgrown ruin. Only Gale has a new robe and staff. Haven't found anything, and the traders prices are ridiculously high. Want to get some good gear, before I head into the Underdark.
I did not have Astarion in my group when I initially found the book. I got him into my group, then read it again, and he said that the book looks heavy and to let him carry it instead. But there is no special dialogue option to hand it over. Can I just place it in his inventory? And then what, do I wait for him to act on his own, or must I manually read it with him and place the amethyst into the mouth to open it?
also will someone please give me some good specs- ive got the game on my laptop but its struggling so i put all video settings on low which made things better... But i want the high quality video cause Assy's super smexy with everything on high
See, I don't have the option to give it to Astarion at all :( just Gale. I have his approval up High and romanced Astarion (of course) and the only way I can "give it to him" is to put it in his inventory and make him open it himself. T_T

I think i saw this in patch 3. I still love it-- I hope it leads to a bigger story!!!!
Me too! :D
"Well.... maybe Shadowheart!"
HAHAHAHA SO FUNNY!
I love it 🥰🥰 looking forward to this scene. This scene suits him so much 😂and it’s so funny. I want more of these.
Agreed! I realllly liked it. Anything that puts a tally in the softie column is good in my book.
I think that my cheeky smile which appear with kind of these scenes will never stop 😁
oh do you write book ? :)
Ah yes, Fenris, just one of many, many white-haired pointy-eared men that I adore. Seriously though, it's getting worrisome how many there are.
And the dialogue switched from Shadowheart to "maybe the gith" so I'd guess it's lowest approval rating of members currently in party.
meanwhile im over here like *how the freak do i open this book*
New scene is really intresting. Curious if Gale has new scenes related to the book as well.
I checked and there was nothing! I really hoped there would be.
"MAYBE SHADOWHEART"
LMFAO I died at this quote, I couldn't relate more to Astarion
Maybe he wants to return Cazador to life? Easier to kill him :)
Yeah that was one of my thoughts.
Ah..hello. I don't think any line has made me laugh that hard in b3g.
I have a general question. It kinda surprises me but the dialogue on who he may kill is pretty different in any of my playthroughs. In one he say Lea'zel, in one Gale..you get the idea. So I'm asking does it depend on something or is it just random?
Maybe the one You have less approval ?
I mean gale could die and be oh 9kay to come back
I'm not sure, but I can tell you some details from my game that might help.
@@Mmogurl there ur approval mean how much u like the party haha
@@nataliaarias4992 that could be true because in my first one I definitely had the lowest approval with Lae’zel
The True Resurrection spell does raise a dead vampire as their non-vampiric self. Maybe he wants to resurrect an enemy of Cazador's?
It could be that he wants the secret to become a "TRUE" vampire without having to drink Cazador´s blood.
WOOooooo! Where do you get this quest arch? I've gotten the book, but never the quest amithest. I'm collecting all the necromancy items in the game to see if they lead somewhere. They ALL seem to be connected some how.
The well at the blighted village.
@@Mmogurl WOWI never went to that spot fearing her wrath...lol THANX for the info :) The D&D spirits are with you :D
Yeah! That Cazador! Foul beast.
I get the feeling that Astarion was trying to resurrect himself, possibly freeing himself from his vampirism?
I like this new scene! Any new scene for the Gale and Astation double romance?😋
Damn im late
Omg, when he said hello to your character I started wheezing 🤣
