I have a tip for cutting open your button holes with an unpicker or seam ripper. Place a pin across the top so you can't accidentally rip too far. I was having a little freak out watching this part😂.

I was taught at school to start at one end of the buttonhole with your seam ripper and rip it to the middle then stop, turn, and start from the other side of your buttonhole to the middle, that way you won’t accidentally rip the stitches. I still do it this way 50 years later, love your dress Janelle ✂️🧵

Lovely tutorial, just a little add, when I use the seam ripper to cut the buttonholes open, I add a pin at the end where I want to stop, just in case I slip, It can not go any further if a pin is in the way, have a beautiful week Janelle

I've been sewing for a while and I had no idea that sewing machines could sew buttons on! Such a good tutorial! Much appreciated :)

I always sew buttons on by hand (I don't do a lot of sewing though, but sometimes I replace buttons on a thrifted garment). Anyway, someone once told me not to double the thread, but quadruple it--thread the two ends of the thread through the needle, then fold over and tie a knot--you'll be working with four threads instead of two. This basically reduces the time spent sewing on buttons by half.

Buttonhole - that way you can line up exactly where the buttons should go ☺️
