    You could try to see what material the resistive element is made of and try to find a TCR curve for it to calculate temperature. This is how temp control vaping works with metals such as titanium, nickel, or stainless steel that change resistance with respect to temperature.

    This concept looks like one can use a 555 timer and set it to 10sec to heat the tip. Then reset the timer to heat more. Only need an overcurrent protection circuit for battery. People used vape device as soldering iron and use this tip IIRC. Some posh vape device has digital timer mcu built-in. EN design is a good concept for a battery powered soldering iron. Thumbs up!

    I should say you might prefer a smaller microcontroller than the atmega328 since not too much gpios are used here. In this way you might save more space for other components, if needed in future versions. Maybe an attiny one

    • @masshysteria1589
      @masshysteria1589 3 года назад

      The new attiny chips such as the attiny1614 or 1616 (or even 402 if it the program is 4kb or less) might be good enough. You'd just need to install the megaTinyCore library for it to work with arduino.

    • @masshysteria1589
      @masshysteria1589 3 года назад +1

      Also, the 1 series attiny such as the 1616 and 1614 (instead of 1606 and 1604) has a built in DAC which could solve your undervoltage protection problem. You could generate a constant voltage and use that as a reference using a comparator or op amp that could drive a mosfet.

    12:20 A spring on negative battery contact may have up to 0.1R resistance (I know), so with current of 4A it may cause up to 0.4V drop, which might be critical to power ATMEGA IC by 3.3V. So, adding a flexible cooper wire between top of the spring and PCB may decrease such risks. I did such adjustments on some my device (cells tester), so I know it's possible to solder. The wire goes in a round fashion way, so when spring is compressed, the wire does minimal movements and does not have any risks to crack after many-many times of cell insertion (which was critical in my case).

    hi have you thought about using a small 5A 5v relay after the charging circuit that is controlled by the charging circuit or the controller then you dont have to remove the battery as the relay will isolate the battery from the rest of the electronics. there are SMD types that are just 10mm x 6mm x 5.5 mm which should fit on your board.

      Definitely going to try some 510 tips on my mod. It has an evolv chipset, so the resistance based temp control is top notch... But, as it is also my DD vape, I won't want to modify the firmware settings for soldering specifically (might be needed to improve soldering performance, not sure)
      ...there are also many other very inexpensive vape controller boards that are great, which might be a good place to start.
      I do have a dead mod kicking around, board should be good just some bad connections to 510 that need to be redone.. it uses one of the cheap chipsets, I don't remember if its a more modern advanced temp control board or not.. it's at least able to regulate by set wattage though

    2. use boost converter, TPS61088 (30W), MP3429 (30W), MP3431 (>30W) and change to T12 tip
    3. upload program via USBASP to skip bootloader (boot faster ~2s)

    Nice project. As far as I know, not all 18650 batteries can deliver 4 or 5 amps. That, I think, is the reason why some charging modules have the over current protection. There are a lot of cheap batteries with lower mAh and discharging capacity. Could it be dangerous to use a non-capable battery? Maybe it would be a good idea to emphasize that in the video description or in the tutorial.

    5:00 ha!!! you could just use another MOSFET (with lower rDSon) instead of the FS8205A used with the battery protection IC DW01A.
    The FS8205A (dual N-MOS, 0.025 rDSon), when used both MOSTEFs in series, has total internal resistance 0.05R. This resistance makes 0.15V drop when current is >=3A, according to Ohm low. The 0.15V voltage is a threshold according to datasheet what used to sense on pin #2 (CS - current sense) of DW01A IC, which is dedicated to save for over current. So, to allow, say, 5Amps you need to use other MOSFETs with a little lower resistance, like 0.15V/5A=0.03R and divide on 2 MOSFETs - 0.015 rDSon.
