Staci, thank you so much for your videos! You are so clear with your information, your voice is so pleasant, and your English style knitting suits me so much better than Continental. I learned to knit 60 years ago and all my teachers were English, but I liked the way Continental looked and was led to believe it was much faster. I tried very hard to master the new technique, but it really is hard to teach an old dog new tricks-and purling Continental was always clumsy, so I decided I didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.....Again thank you for your very capable teaching!
Yes - except Knitter's Pride doesn't make really small needle sizes in interchangeable sets yet. So it would be easy enough for them to come out with flexible DPN cords for size US 3 (3.25mm) and up...but they still need to make a tiny join for smaller sizes. Like I said in the video, I passed this wish on to them, hopefully they're working on it!
@@verypinkknits I love the flexi-flips for hats and sleeves etc and recommend them for such all the time at the LYS where I work. I also would LOVE the short cable for the end of my Tunisian crochet hook set because sometimes you don't need much more than the hook and the extra cable just flaps around. I hope they listen to your request!!
OMG! I was just saying to our daughter yesterday that I wished ChiaGoo or HiyaHiya would make those!! Much prefer a sharper tip. They are perfect for the crown shaping on hats. Perfect timing! Thx
Yeah, I tried the Addi needles and even the sharper tip is still too blunt for me. I get along very well with the sharpness of Hiya Hiya lace needles, but I can't say I'm crazy about the stainless steel material. What would be perfect would be a needle sharp like Hiya Hiya, but made of Addi's nickel-plated brass.
I tried the Addis and wasn't crazy about them. I found the needles uncomfortably short for me. I have knit socks using dpns, two circs, and magic loop, but reallylike the concept of "flexible dpns". I am huge fan of Knitters Pride needles and a have multiple sets of their interchangeable needles, including their short needle tips So, when I tried the Addis, I just made my own "flexible dpns" with my KP shorts and a matching 9" fixed circ. Works great!🙂
I have the Flexi flips and the Hiya Hiya flyers. I am on a sock binge. I love the Hiya Hiyas because they are sharp, but have made a few stabs in my finger! Love them thought.
I am so glad hiya-hiya finally put these out!! I bought the flexi-flips when they came out and I just can't handle how dull even their lace tips are. I love my hiya-hiya sharp needles so I am off to try out the new hiya's!!
You have made my day by making this tutorial !!!! I’ve been waiting for a long time thank you very much for sharing the different types of needles I love love knitting with FlexiFlips thanks again can’t wait to watch your next tutorial 💞
I have both sets of the chiagoo shorties so that option is perfect! I have a second shortie in two sizes that I use for socks as well so don’t even need to order needles, just the little cables. I’m so excited to try this.
The Addi Bamboo was the first flexible needles I could get my hands on. I managed to break one during the heel knitting, now I prefer the metal ones :)
I love your videos and attribute having learned how to knit because of them. I’ve never knitted socks. They look so intimidating! But I am looking forward to your tutorial! Thank you for all you do!!!
Staci, I want to thank you for this review. I use Chaigoo needles mostly, so I bought two sets of the US 0. I started your new sock pattern with them, but didn’t love the process. Based on this video, I decided to give the Hiya Hiya needles a try. Must say that I prefer them so far. Did I say thank you 🤗 for your review and your pattern? Keep up the good work.
I use this three needle flex setup to work the decrease rows when making a hat. This works better than DPN’s or magic loop for me. I use various sets of my interchangeable needles to work the cross of my hats.
I use the bamboo Flexi Flips for toes on my socks and I love them. I also have a larger size that I use for the crown for hats, they are wonderful! I use the metal one on the hats but the bamboo for the socks, I like my little needles to be a little grippier. The Bamboo aren't dull but they aren't super pointed either. They also cost a little more than the metal ones. I can see these also being used for the center start for circular shawls :). I haven't tried them yet for thumbs on the fingerless mitts, but only because I haven't knit any since getting them.
Thank you for the suggestion on making my own with Chiaogoo tips/cords. I have the Blue shorties set so I like the idea of saving on the price and just buying just a few extra to make a set :)
Living in Germany, there is no store selling the HiyaHiyas. However, the addi Crazy Trios are much cheaper here (approx. 14 US dollars). I love the addi Crazy Trios and my next project will be your sock pattern with the fleegle heel. So excited.
Thanks for pointing out the Chiagoo hack to make flexi dpns. I find Addis too slick thus not getting their flexiflips. However, I love Chiagoos and already have the mini set.
Yes, they are much less expensive if purchased from a European vendor. But Addi needles sold in North America are distributed by Skacel and manufactured by Addi to Skacel's specifications, so the needles from Europe are not covered by Skacel's warranty service.
Hi. Last summer I found an article in which a woman claims that she is the one who invented these needles. Her idea was stolen and now she is in conflict with needle maker. I bought her version of the needles but have yet to try them. Here is her posting on eBay. www.ebay.com/itm/Flexible-Dbl-points-knitting-needles-US-sizes-1-2-3-4-2-25-2-75-3-25-3-75mm/283432294102?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Hello I have been watching your videos and I love how in-depth you explain what you are knitting .was wondering if you could show hiya interchangeable sock needle set 😊
I bought 3 sets of Addi Flex...2 being bamboo. Trying to find needles that will not aggravate my Arthritis...Yuk! I'm hoping that the Flex will be a good set. Excited abt your up-and-coming Flex sock tutorial...Thanks
I have the Addi Flexi-Flips in US 5, 6, 7, and 8. I make mainly hats, and use them for decreasing the crown. I started out with the US 6, then have added a size every few months. If I were a sock maker, I’d probably go for the Hiya Hiya Flyers, as I prefer a sharp tip for sock yarn.
Great review and intro to these needles. I purchased my CrasyTrio set on Amazon through a store in Europe. It came with a lovely skein of Arne and Carlos Pairfect yarn. Anyhow before I forget I want to thank you for clearing up my confusion on the ChiaoGoo flexible dpns. I think that's the route I'll go in the future. Then again I may purchase the HiyaHiya flexible dpn set. I do love their sharp tips. I'll let ya know which way I decide to go.
I haven't tried those yet. Interesting review and helpful. I started making socks last year. I learned magic loop. I do have issues sometimes with one end and looser stitch. I couldn't help but laugh when you said Chiaogoo ones were "build a bear" style. LOL I only use Chiaogoo. They are my very favorite. I ordered myself the 4 in interchangeable set after owning the 5 in for several years. I LOVE the 4 in set. I didn't realize Chiaogoo had the little connectors to make the flexible dpns. Thanks for the info.
Jennifer Ann Fox Just curious. What made you decide to buy the 4 inch set of the ChiaoGoo interchangeables? I just bought the 5 inch set. I love them but it was a hard choice to make between tip size. Knowing me I’ll get the 4 inch set too!
@@theastewart6721 I had the 5 in ones for several years. I got the 4 in because the cords can make 16 in, 22 and 29 or 30 specifically if a project calls for 16 in needles the 5 in kit is not possible. The ability to make sweaters or hats that call for 16 in needles was by itself worth the cost of the 4 in kit. I got mine on Amazon. I couldn't believe that ebay has them for 165.00 and the same kit on Amazon ( by Chiaogoo themselves) was 119.00. I really love Chiaogoo.
Jennifer Ann Fox Thank you for your reply! I did know that with the 5’s you can’t make the 16 inch cord but I like a longer needle. I find in the bigger sizes the 4 inch is a little short for me. That being said, I use 16 inch cords a lot so I’ll probably get the 4 inch tips as well! I hear you about the prices. Amazon is so much cheaper. I have a set of Addi’s that I love and got for a great price on a yarn website which was a shocker as all other sites were extremely expensive. I got my ChiaoGoo on Amazon. Do you still use your 5 inch set? Thanks again!
ChiaoGoo blue can connect to their Spins- which are their bamboo line. Their 2 inch cable triple set let you combine any length ChiaoGoo tips you own. I love them.
I only have one set of the Addi BAMBOO Flexi-Flips which was sold as US size 1, but they are actually 1-1/2 or 2.5 mm. I am using them for making baby socks as my daughter-in-law is pregnant with TWIN BOYS!!! OMG! I do like the Flexi-Flip set I have, they make really nice ribbing and as you pointed out, I am not getting any ladders with them. The tips are a bit more rounded than my ChiaoGoo Mini Twists which I also love, but for the diameter of baby socks, is too small a diameter to use the Mini Twists so I pulled out the Flexi-Flips. I have to admit that they were not a true size 1, American, -- in that I was disappointed, but the baby socks I am making, call for a 1-1/2 US needle. And now that I am use to them, they are the greatest for doing ribbing for me. And that the tips are bamboo for such a small diameter, my stitches are not falling off the tips and I do not get sore fingertips using them which I can with the ChiaoGood Mini Twists. I am an English knitter who flicks but find I am now good at doing ribbing doing Norwegian purl as I like learning new techniques. Don't get me wrong, for doing straight stockinette, I prefer Flicking. Whatever one knows in knitting always will be useful in circumstances you have to pick up stitches in an odd spot which won't work out well right-handed, doing it left-handed may work better or vice versa. And always have loved how you teach and your great reviews are so helpful to me.
Hi Stacie, Great info! I’ve been knitting hats this winter and asked DH to pickup a set of the metal FF’s two weeks ago, and I just love them. I have not had any problems at all. I was already a turbo/rockets fan before these came out. I will be looking into getting a better price than what my DH paid at my LYS- $30.00. I choked at that price. I would say that $20 would be realistic. But that is my humble opinion. 😉
Agree m LYS sells them for 30$ to here in Ontario Canada but its the only place withing 40km that sells them and hard find online round here too, but like she said buying one set isn't too bad!
Thanks for the video. I brought a set of size 8 Flexi Flips, and made a hat, and it worked out pretty well. I'll probably get a size 6 and 7 eventually because those are the sizes that I use the most for hats, and I love making hats. Also, I'll get a size 2.5 for socks. Not into the "Build a Bear" (LOL!) approach just yet.
I used Addi needles for years... until I discovered Chiao goo. The joins on the Chiao goo needles are, IMO, so much easier to work with. And the points are sharper than even the lace points on the addis. Even on the Addi flexiflips, the stitches always get hung up on the joins. I find it annoying, and it slows me down. I’m not getting rid if the Addis, but I wish the Chiao goos had been around when I bought the flexi flips. (BTW, apropos if nothing, I dislike that name!) And, yes, the Hitahiyas are very sharp!
Very interesting video! I would go with the Addi because I love Addi. I can actually knit without constantly hurting my finger! I have one size of the Hiya Hiya fixed circular needles I purchased for a specific project and is it ever sharp! And it’s their regular needles, not the sharps! Many people love them though. I have ChiaoGoo and Knitters Pride if I want a pointier tip. I am looking forward to see you work with these next week! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you, love your videos! Can you please tell me the name of the cape behind you, or maybe you have a link to share? It's gorgeous! Thank you in advance!
I forgot to add that to the video description! The cape on the mannequin (and the pattern I use as an example in the software) is Lost in a Dream Cape from Kraemer Yarns: verypink.com/2020/01/29/lost-in-a-dream-hooded-cape/
They are very cheap over here in Ireland. I only paid 12.75 euros for mine. I still prefer knitting my socks with My chiaogoo 9 inch needles, I love them.
I would love for you to compare Twist cables (red) and X-Flex cables (blue). they seem to be relatively new and it is really hard to find info on them other than that they are more flexible
Man I have to keep watching your videos for help. Thanks for the info. Repeatedly I have found them very useful! How would I swatch with my new flexible dpns?
Have you tried these for the crown decrease on hats? That is usually my most challenging aspect of making a hat. I have a set of these, and at the time I didn't know how to use them properly yet, but now that I watched your (first) flexiflip sock video, I think I understand better.
They would work similarly to regular DPNs for hat decreases...except one thing. Once you get down to very few stitches, you're going to have stitches on the cord, unless you're careful. That can cause tension issues, like ladders.
Oh my goodness, I love all 3 of these brands of needles. I have the Caico goos of my gift list (my birthday is the same week as Mother's day) can you tell me if there's a 40 inches cord to attach to the caico goos? I love doing magic loop socks/hats.
So with this, when the loops\stitches are on the knitting needle, you just knit them as usual? What about when you’re done and need to take out the scrap yarn?
I just ordered 2pr of the square ones 11 ins long. And Im a magic looper. What i really need to ask you is what yarn do you use that I see in your recent videos?
I just bought a set of bamboo addi crazy trio (aka flexi flips) , from Germany, from laughing hens. Was about $23.00 and got them in two weeks. They sent them right out, but between customs and usps, it took a couple weeks. I really like them.
Hi Staci! I’m having a dilemma with a scarf I’m knitting. It’s the Birch trees scarf and everything is fine but I made some sort of mistake at the beginning (fourth row, maybe fifth) and it didn’t throw my stitch count off so I wasn’t aware until just now. It’s driving me crazy knowing it’s there and I completely gave up on it. Is there any way to fix something at the beginning? Or should I just finish it and stop obsessing about it lol? Thank you, I absolutely love watching your videos by the way!!!💕
Hmm...without seeing your work I can't really offer advice. Really, if you can get your stitch count correct to continue working, it's up to you whether you want to live with the mistake or go back and fix it. You can also contact the pattern designer directly for advice.
VeryPink Knits Thank you for responding so quickly!! My husband thinks I’m crazy because it’s “barely noticeable.” He said a mistake would be if it didn’t come out a scarf lol. I think I’ll just carry on with it but I thought I would ask you just in case. I probably wouldn’t trust myself to fix it anyway. There’s yarn overs and decreases and I would most likely make it worse.
Just a question about the chiaogoo option - would you not need 3 sets of the same size needle to be used as flexible dpns? Which would mean you would have to buy multiples of the packs which would be extremely costly!
I was also unclear on the Chiaogoo option. Plan on purchasing the mini set. For the “third” needle, would need to purchase an “extra set” in EACH size. Correct?
Staci, can you show us how you store all your needles? I have built up a sizeable needle stash over a period of time buying different sizes as and when rather than investing in sets. Just because I couldn’t afford the initial investment and it now means needles are loose and not in pretty cases. How do you suggest storing. Michelle
Most of my needles come in cases, because they're interchangeable sets. For my loose needles, I use needle cases by Della Q, for both circulars and DPNs.
VeryPink Knits thanks you. I am going to take your sock class when you get it done, but doing the shorty sock class for beginners by Earthtonesgirl here on RUclips . She said if you are a loose knitter 2.25 or a tighter knitter get 2.5. I ordered the smaller cause I am a loose knitter but I can always send them back if they don’t work and get the larger one.
I don’t see how it would b cheaper having to buy 3 sets of a size needle tip to go with the short cables which also cost money? Am I missing something here? Wouldn’t it b cheaper to just buy Hiya Hiya or Addi’s n the size needed? I’m confused. Help
I am really frustrated with Addi because all of their needles are so incredibly blunt, even their lace tips. But I love the nickel-plated brass material. If someone made needles with Addi materials and the sharpness of the Hiya Hiya Sharps, I would be very happy. Don't get me wrong, the stainless steel of the Hiya Hiyas is very nice and very slick, but there's something about the Addi needles that made them the most enjoyable for me to knit with.
You can make most of a hat with short circulars, but you'll want to switch to DPNs, flexible DPNs, or magic loop to complete the decreases of the hat at the crown. You can't really work those last few stitches on 16" circulars.
Denise needles don’t go below a US 5/3.75mm . Not good for your typical sock knitting. My first interchangeable needle set was Denise. When I first heard about Flexi-flips I realized that I could make them with my Denise needles, sadly, the needle tip size doesn’t go down far enough for anything but bulky weight socks.
I couldn't find them online right now...they have been on Amazon in the past, but I'm guessing they sold out. I recommend contacting ChiaoGoo directly to find a retailer.
I love using flexible DPNs because you can knit faster since you have less needle changes.

Yes - except Knitter's Pride doesn't make really small needle sizes in interchangeable sets yet.
WOULD LOVE TO TRY THESE. THEY LOOK TOTALLY COOL.
Hi Stacie,
Great info!
(BTW, apropos if nothing, I dislike that name!) And, yes, the Hitahiyas are very sharp!
i have the Denise interchangeable set. i like them, but their smallest needle size appears to be US5/3.75 mm.
Thank you. I have the small red set of chiaogoo I will try those cords
Thank you, love your videos! Can you please tell me the name of the cape behind you, or maybe you have a link to share? It's gorgeous! Thank you in advance!
I forgot to add that to the video description!
The cape on the mannequin (and the pattern I use as an example in the software) is Lost in a Dream Cape from Kraemer Yarns:

Never knew these were out there, very informative. Thanks!
love the new haircut
LOL I’ve just started learning how to knit socks, so this was very informative ❤️👍👏
I don't know if it's already been said but I've seen the Hiya Hiya flyers with the option 'sharp steel' or 'steel' tips available in the UK
never tried them but this looks really nice!
Thank you love your videos
It would be great to have the option of a 5 needle set.
Oh my goodness, I love all 3 of these brands of needles. I have the Caico goos of my gift list (my birthday is the same week as Mother's day) can you tell me if there's a 40 inches cord to attach to the caico goos? I love doing magic loop socks/hats.
Just bought some for baby hat US6
So with this, when the loops\stitches are on the knitting needle, you just knit them as usual? What about when you’re done and need to take out the scrap yarn?
I just ordered 2pr of the square ones 11 ins long. And Im a magic looper. What i really need to ask you is what yarn do you use that I see in your recent videos?
Thanks
Build-a-Bear! That made me laugh out loud :)
I haven't tried to knit socks again for years. I wonder if they'll make flexible dpn's in wood at a lower cost.
I just bought a set of bamboo addi crazy trio (aka flexi flips) , from Germany, from laughing hens. Was about $23.00 and got them in two weeks. They sent them right out, but between customs and usps, it took a couple weeks. I really like them.
This looks exciting!! 🤗🤗
I have to try to knit me some socks! LOL!
Just a question about the chiaogoo option - would you not need 3 sets of the same size needle to be used as flexible dpns? Which would mean you would have to buy multiples of the packs which would be extremely costly!
Yes, I explain that in the video. If you have one of the shortie sets, you'll need one extra pair or needles.
Are 2.25 to small or 2.5 better not sure which to buy. I am new at socks.
In my experience, 2.5mm are more common in sock patterns.
I ended up having to use a size 0 needle to knit socks, I also knit loosely, I knit combined continental,
I don’t see how it would b cheaper having to buy 3 sets of a size needle tip to go with the short cables which also cost money? Am I missing something here? Wouldn’t it b cheaper to just buy Hiya Hiya or Addi’s n the size needed? I’m confused. Help
Question: would these work for making amigurumi? I make a lot of critters and monsters to donate and some times my hands will ache.
Has anyone heard any news if Chiaogoo will be making the 2 inch interchangeable cord for the larger size needles?
I am really frustrated with Addi because all of their needles are so incredibly blunt, even their lace tips. But I love the nickel-plated brass material. If someone made needles with Addi materials and the sharpness of the Hiya Hiya Sharps, I would be very happy. Don't get me wrong, the stainless steel of the Hiya Hiyas is very nice and very slick, but there's something about the Addi needles that made them the most enjoyable for me to knit with.
I do my socks 2 at a time, toe up, can you use the longer Flexi Flips to do this?
Yes.
Do I need dpns to make hats or can I just use my addi rocket squared shorts with 16 cord? I’m new so trying to figure out what all to make hats
You can make most of a hat with short circulars, but you'll want to switch to DPNs, flexible DPNs, or magic loop to complete the decreases of the hat at the crown. You can't really work those last few stitches on 16" circulars.
Huh. I have always used magic loop and have never had tension issues.
Staci would these work on gloves?
Yes, but a little tricky on the fingers when you have very few stitches. Regular DPNs are a better choice for good tension on the fingers.

1and 2's of hiya hiya's actually can puncture my finger tip. It can get very painful.
Ouchy.
Joan B They are way too sharp for me!
I accidentally stabbed myself in my index finger with my Hiya Hiya Sharps, 3mm. It still hurts. :)))
Where can I buy the little mini Chiaogoo cords to use with their sock set as you showed? I already own the sock set of needles.
I couldn't find them online right now...they have been on Amazon in the past, but I'm guessing they sold out. I recommend contacting ChiaoGoo directly to find a retailer.
