It's the type of joking personality that forms many comedians too. Humor is often a defense mechanism during a hard childhood, to cope with massive stress.

I think he could because he's smart, sensitive and (self) educated. Otherwise he could have turned violent if he didn't have this way of expression. That's what happens with some people who had a hard childhood too but not the good weapon to react. And you also can find comedians who didn't have a "hard" childhood but turned out to have the same joking personality.

And they just asked him to freestyle and so he cut the beat on and homeboy started playing the guitar and Shady started spittin'
