Whoa! That's a niiiiiice chip. It will definitely make rendering and working on projects a lot faster. I am so jealous. I can't afford a 7970x but wish I could. Holy smokes. The video card is no slouch, either. Very nice machine. I can't wait to see what you guys do with it in future videos.
I love how movies and video games have overlapped so much recently. Unreal started as a video game engine. Now, it's used for all kinds of productions. And then you have stuff like what Naughty Dog did with The Last Of Us and the Uncharted series. Those games were made almost like movies. They had actors in mo-cap suits and filmed them like a movie. The games are very cinematic. Then you get the best of both worlds with something like The Mandalorian where they used a Unreal for The Volume to make backgrounds and get better lighting and reflections. Last of Us and Uncharted both got made into TV shows and movies. It just seems like gaming and film are merging more and more.
That is not entirely true, yes there's only two major x86/AMD64 processor makers, Intel and AMD and for this type of job, that is what matters but in general terms, about processor makers, there's also ARM32/64 processors, that is a rival processor system to those of Intel and AMD, used on cellphones, laptops, VR googles and other mobile machines... like movie cameras ;) And for those, there's many more makers and even thou ARM processors, used to be simpler, slow and meant for low power machines, modern high end cellphones, for example, are now so powerful, because ARM processors evolved so much that they are seriously starting to rival, a few desktop X86/AMD64 processors, they are not the fastest processors around yet but they are getting there.
You continually refer to your old machine, but I'm very curious, what were the specs on that? Was there a intentional reason why you didn't ever say it specs Was it also amd?
Fair question. No, it was a non AMD workstation (as noted in the test results). The reason why our older machine was not fully spec listed is because it would be unfair to directly or indirectly criticise a competitor to AMD, when comparing apples to oranges (due to age).AMD also felt the same, which made us feel that they had good integrity, and just wanted us to speak honestly about the jump in productivity that we now have with a modern high end AMD workstation. The spec of our older machine was (when new) one of the higher spec workstations that you could buy, costing around £5k around 10 years ago. Over the years it had an extra processor added (to make 32 cores) and RAM upgraded to 128GB, M.2 internal drives and SSD’s for scratch and storage. GPU was also swapped out a couple of times for whatever the most affordable’Ti’ card was at the time. So it definitely wasn’t too much of a slouch…and kept somewhat higher end spec throughout its life. Unfortunately, the motherboard had literally reached its end of life in terms of support for any modern or next Gen hardware, especially the newest Gen of physically large/ power hungry GPU’s…and also, because of its age, OS was capped at win10. I guess you know you invested wisely when after 10 + years, the main thing stopping you be fully productive with a computer - is it’s planned obsolescence, rather than any obvious operating issues! So, this new AMD workstation has a lot of expectation to live up to! Thankfully, all signs so far point to it being a perfect upgrade path that feels like it can have a similar long and productive life, with possibilities of upgrades along the way. It genuinely was an ‘out of the blue’ and perfectly timed upgrade opportunity offered to us by the kind folks at AMD ,which is why we agreed to the paid promotion…and why the video is basically us being simply thankful that we no longer have to struggle with future computer-intensive work - Thanks, JP :)
@@InCameraTV Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! I really appreciate your detailed answer And it makes a lot of sense and is very considerate of you to not throw the older hardware under the bus because it's true people might get the wrong impression. I hadn't thought of that. I have always enjoyed your content but now I have an even greater respect for your integrity.
Great video, thanks to you both. You probably have thought about this but have you thought about setting up your old workstation PC as a background renderer? Stick it on the network and you can do this quite easily. It would allow you to use your faster computer for more intensive stuff.
Whilst the comment section is quiet just want to let you guys know that the stuff you put out is fantastic. The time and effort that goes in really shows.
Excellent stuff. Last year on your Instagram, you posted a video where you created blood dripping from the eye effect by using a blue head in front of a blue background and some fake blood. Could you create a tutorial where you go into the specifics of what the process was?
Yes!…we actually plan to do a few episodes soon where we show various ways of doing practical elements for makeup effects, to then be tracked and composited into live action, from simple - to advanced techniques. Thank you and stay tuned - JP
AMD! Give these lovely gentlemen a Radeon Pro WX 7900 48GB (or two) to really show what your silicon is capable of! Thanks guys for the hard work you do!
You guys mean so much to me. I dont think you trully understand. You made my film making so much better. I hope one day to work with you.
No matter how fast your computer is, you will always find ways to slow it down by giving it more to do. 😄
I am truly amazed you have not yet hit the 1M mark of subscribers. How it has yet to happen is, well, inconceivable.
Wow, that’s a criminally low sub count.
Shame on humanity.
Matters not. Just doin it for the love 😉

0:29 Technically not a lie, cause there are only two major manufacturers of processors haha

@@InCameraTV@InCameraTV Thanks; I really appreciate that I'm wrestling with similar VFX shots for my short film.
How do we hire you to work on a feature? Do you have a website?

I'll never forget that "Who killed captain Alex" was edited on spare parts from early 2000s. Just reflecting compared what there is today for editing.
Nice upgrade indeed.
