My thoughts:
I think Dimash was actually hungry and ready for a track lick this he is a young guy and he loves MJ style of pop music too.
And i think he did not break carachter because he knew he was finished singing and he just watched he's dancers slaying it...he had a smile too and i think he was exited how well the performance went.
I might be wrong ofcourse.
But i do believe he loved to do this different feel music for a good change -up.

The zombies died! He is there by himself! Everything Dimash does has a purpose. This is not the only pop song that Dimash has sung. He admires Michael Jackson and has other song and covers similar to this one. You may want to watch his New York concert at the Barclays Center.

I really, really loved this song. It was different for Dimash but so unique. It was awesome from beginning to end.

I disagree with you at all, Dimash in just a few weeks has shown with 3 great songs what he is capable of. Dimash loves scenery, it's not nerves, or anything like that. He likes pop. and a lot . When someone is perfect, do you have to find something wrong? That airy voice killed me! Who else can sing, and interpret like that. The lyrics of the song are about spiritual, creative, and thought freedom.

But this time, there is something I can't quite agree with you.
1. Dimash has sung many faster pop songs (a lot of them are in Kazakh). Vocally they may be not as demanding as the more classical pieces, but I (nonetheless) like them very much. Because Dimash sings and performs them (sometimes he also dances) with irrepressible energy and liveliness. Like you, he also has the capacity, that his enthusiasm is contagious.
The more upbeat songs (pop- songs) loosen up his concerts a little, because singing only the demanding masterpieces would be very stressful for his voice and would also overwhelm and strain us, the audience.
I list some of them (not a complete list):
Screaming, Be with me, Golden, Durdaraz, Give me your love, Kiel meken, Lay down, Just let it be, Tughan Zher, Juldizym, My Beauty, Sweet Memories, Last Word, Salem, Where love lives, Power Rangers, Leyla, Do not forget me, Ak Tilek, .. ..let's not forget the Michael Jackson Tributes.
2. Of course, nobody is perfect and Dimash can also experience weaknesses, mistakes, slip-ups or like what you have described ... after all, he is only human. But the moment you pointed out, where he swallows, he is definitely fully in the character figure he represents, it is on purpose, it is just as intentional ... because the whole choreography is based on the content of the song ... I'm excited about the choreography (and of course the song and Dimash's vocals / performance).
If you are interested, you can read my interpretation ... down below I explain why I think this way ... (it has become a bit more extensive 😉):
I think,
that the character, which Dimash represents, doesn’t want to be squeezed into a system,
that he doesn’t want to be dictated by the rulers (authorities of money and/or society) about what and how he has to do something .... but also,
that he doesn’t want to run away and hide by only pretending to the outside world, that he is submitting to the perfect system / society (Why we have to lie every day?)
For me, the dancers represent the other side, for example the side of the “perfect people, perfect world, perfect system download” ... the followers ... those, who allow the rulers to dictate/stipulate/command them, or who can be pressed into a system, perhaps getting increasingly under digital control ..... those, who in the end of the song have lost most of their humanity, as society (in this song) is based on perfectionism and adaptation (the dancers also move in unison or sometimes crawl across the floor like zombies).
But he, the character that Dimash represents, wants to break out of it ... doesn't feel comfortable or authentic in this system... ..
he always had to pretend to the outside as if he complies/ yields/obeys ... as if he was behind the system (Why we have to lie every day?) .
.... and at the end of the song he has made his own way, moves away from them ... in order to perform it, Dimash goes to the other side of the stage and lets his arm, which is outstretched to the others, drop down.
From a distance he watches how the others carry on, being more and more controlled by others or the authorities/rulers ...
HE SWALLOWS
because it took great courage for him (for the character, he represents ),
because now, there is no turning back
because he feels a certain melancholy or sadness, as he had to leave loved ones (or a single person) behind,…those, who didn't go with him, because they didn't have the courage to do so
(You said, now it's better run and hide… You said, run away it's not so hard……. I say, now It's time to break free… Tell me, will you fly away with me?).
...
And the line “Everybody needs to be loved” ... I think, this shows what may have held him back from breaking out up to now, but the urge for freedom for his own path grew stronger and stronger .. so he leaves…
Then, at the end, he has overcome the sadness, mentally and emotionally, and therefore he is walking with his head held high ...
the arms and hands, raised by him in the last pose, could indicate, that he is successful on his new path, while the others remain on the track, move only as if in slow motion and finally drown with all hands, because they have been "eaten up" by the system ...
and the dancers show it by falling to the ground collectively.
This is what I’m thinking about the song … of course there may be a lot of different interpretations …
... but the SWALLOW and Dimash`s expression was intentional.
Dimash is a great actor … he has already proven it in several musicvideos and in commercial spots.

It might be nerves or it might be part of the character. Look at the lyrics. Breaking free from the system. Be free. That end the mass is at one end. He looks at them and then he moves in the opposite direction from them. Going his own way. And that is scary
Hi Justin, Great reaction. You mentioned that Dimash breaks character on this performance for a split second when he swallows. However, Dimash has a condition called Rhinitis which causes inflammation and congestion forcing him to have to swallow on occasion. You probably haven't noticed it in previous performances but he's done it before. Hope this helps.
Hi Justin, I think the swallowing he does is totally in character. Symbolically, as he breaks away from the dancers, he loses his tether and swallows while looking at the dancers to show a sense of being scared but his body continues in the opposite direction to demonstrate the acceptance of the decision to break free. Hoping this makes sense 💟 Great reaction as always.

Justin you should check his new version of his song Olimpico he has just posted in his channel. It is an amazing version with a rock opera vibe. Believe it or not, this version of the song is much better than the original and his voice is a total improvement.
Hmm not so new. that version was the first song on the digital concert he did as a fundraiser last January. Beyond awesome.

Hi Justin, I think Fly Away is a such a new song for him. I predict he will add in more dancing and something else there at the end. If he had that feeling at the end you were talking about he will add in. It was so enjoyable.
Actually Justin, I don't think Dimash is out of his comfort zone. Baby Boy will try anything. He tried Uptown Funk (shouldn't have, but that's OK, he gave it a try). I believe that anyone who writes a tribute to Michael Jackeon (one of his idols), dances his butt off during the performance and moonwalks across the stage - is not "out-of-his comfort-zone" with this lovely piece.

Thank you for your reaction to "Fly Away"! When you say that he broke character, Idk if that's what it is, but maybe the problem is the way the song ended - quite a long time without him singing. It reminds me of the ending of the first version of "Sinful Passion" from New Wave, 2018, which he changed in his Moscow performance later and it became more comfortable for him.

He was steal in the moment, he had just" broke free", but it's scary to break free so to finish he swallowed to fully convey that decision and nervousness in doing so.

I think your analysis completely misses the mark. Maybe you weren't listening to the words he was singing. He was totally in character. This song is about breaking away. He was looking back at what was his comfort zone and getting ready to take another path. For him to look even little "unsure" by swallowing obviously before heading down the different path in that moment couldn't have been more in character. You're welcome.
