For reference one of the Minerva decks that topped a week or two ago is about $200, 60 of that(about 30%) is 5 cards: Elementaria, Chalice, 3 keter effect draws. From a marketing standpoint I'm about as invested as I can be, but there's a reason I'm playing DD or CFA and not irl
I think D has overall been pretty positive for the game. Our locals has apparently grown substantially. I think the main three issues I'd like to see resolved in D are: (1) Lack of reprints: We're seeing some improvements here, but the new nation system has put massive demand on cards like Swirler, Inlet, and Yuika. I would like to see something like YGO's mega tins to address this. (2) Promo cards: OTSs are struggling to get hold of promos, and these promos are often essential for decks. They really need to sort out distribution in global... (3) Jet: Just Jet. We can't afford to have another mistake like this in D. Jet really needs to be kneecapped on the restricted list or else the game will wind up extremely centralised or extremely power-crept. The power level of D had been quite enjoyable up until this point.
The main issue wtih Jet in this case. What do you ban exactly? Everything in the premium case works so well that banning one of them basically hurts all of them. You could go the route of JP and choice restrain brainwash with gigi but then what will come next? As for the others, Promos should be better handled but at the same time, it's probably just a bulk thing. As for Reprints. I think the issue with that is that we are only seeing specific cards get very popular while others are not. There's not really a Dragon Empire Reprint that is crucial right now other than MFD but other than that, the current format of reprinting 5 cards works fine for now
overdress was, and is, a very positive reboot for vanguard imo. The ride deck made so bricking at the start of the game had less of a impact on the overall match and the nation system allowed for consistent suport for all decks(even if wasnt intentional "looks at inlet pulse"). The problem is that its the second reboot, we all know about how v burned bridges, and bushi still persiste on bad habits, mainly promos, and ignoring all feedback on ots
you know what would make the overtrigger balanced? Making it a rainbow trigger where when you check this rainbow trigger during either drive check or damage check you can choose either one of the four effects you want depending on the situation, the power can either stay as normal 10k power boost or maybe 20k etc, but instead they made this crazy overtrigger +1mil power with busted effect mechanic which make the experience quite bad, and you know how fix this problem? well create a card(Evergreen Transphere) that counters the overtrigger and it will probably cost you around 20-30 dollars! As they say, create a problem, sell a solution. Not to mention the decks that play around with quite a few amount of orders which itself is already a very tight deck and doesnt have that many normal units like orfist/gravidia which uses 10+ order in their deck, imagine now you have to put these new orders, theres just too much.
I'm kinda convinced that OT exist because of with the existence of ride deck the game gonna be stale so they made the wild card of OT. But they made OT 100 million that's the problem
In my opinion, the way Overdress was handled and is to this day has done more harm than good to the state of the game. While the idea of clumping up clans to nations was a good idea in it's core, the outcome of this decision could not be more away from the intended goal: instead of giving more deckbuilding choices, there has never been a time where we were forced to play so many set staples in any deck. Backpaddling from Draw PGs, playing mediocore ridelines for years without upgrades or alternatives, stale trigger lineups, Persona Rides and lastly and probably most importantly the need to play like 8 cards in the form of order cards to satisfy Deck/Vanguard requirements. This leaves like 15 cards for you to pick at the most and even then there are many nationwide staples. Not to mention, like as you said, the secondary market prices for this game became really absurd.
The worse thing about the d for me is the killing of V-premium, and the weird mechanic they keep adding ? Like you said OT and Crest are just unnecessary imo, and not all but hardly any bosses can be used outside of D, like they require so much on having their ride deck that running them in the main deck is just clunky, and even when you do get lucky you just, don’t enough pay off, but I will give them credit, by keeping the newer bosses limited to the D by the way they work, they can’t have another V situation at their hand where every new boss units is more power-creep for P
Probably the biggest negative i can say is the price of generic staples in the secondary market and the lack of reprints (granted there's reprints of some staple cards but generic staples are still expensive)
It would have been almost perfect if it wasn’t for the OT there is a reason it’s player base is at an all time low. In addition the OT killed its competitive viability. New players immediately ran. It’s secondary market is literally the same as buddyfights was at its end as well. It doesn’t help there is even more competition now than ever. To top all of that even it’s one of staples are so few that they are ridiculously expensive because not enough product is cracked. Hell did we even touch the promo situation? The list of problems has gone far and above the old days of when power creep and competitive viability was it’s only problem.
D has been a rollercoaster since the beginning. In terms of mechanics, I would say D is literally perfect and a logical step up in so many things. Persona Ride rewarding you for reriding into a G3 means that they don't get to sit in your hand and do nothing nor simply exist in your rearguard as a vanilla beatstick. And the Ride Deck was just brilliant and removed the most bullshit scenario you could be in, ie grade locked. They finally adressed arguably the biggest issue with the game as a whole since the beginning. With that said, Over Triggers are obviously bullshit and shouldn't have existed in the 1st place, althought they could've been executed very differently, like many people say in vg discussion videos like this, OTs should've been a rainbow trigger with 20k power boost (30k at most) while the additional effects are also meant to be toned down in the same way, if not simply removed entirely. So outside of OTs which were handled very poorly, D mechanic wise is just perfect. In terms of product schedule and community feedback though it unfortunately shows that Bushi just can't seem to step away from it's bad habits. Overall I'm happy with the D era and really hope it continues to go strong, and if they adress these issues I know for sure it will. In terms of the Meta and such I would say that as long as they handle Chronojet it should be fine.
The problem is much clearer since Jet came. Jet and the gang were mistake either D or V (look at Luard). And D is the format where lot of decks can't live without promo cards which is sucks.
This video makes me happy that I dropped Vanguard when they started rebooting the card game. I was tempted by V but they rebooted the brand a second time so quickly that I just picked up a different game instead.
So much has happened.....I stopped playing around when Legion was the new mechanic, so when I looked and saw new sets were still being made, I looked to see what new Dark Irregulars look like now, only to find out that Clans aren't a thing anymore. But I guess that new version is Dark States. Kinda wanna buy a the trial deck considering its so cheap
I love D right now. I dont even think Jet is a problem (my winrate has been pretty good against it with multiple decks). I think Gandeeva is a little strong but i also havent had much practice against it lately. Tons of decks feel viable at a locals level and its great. The overtrigger will always cause problems from a conpetitive standpoint but this game is insanely fun when youre just playing casually with friends.
I feel like theres always gonna be a disconnect between casual and comp in any game. Cus me, I'm just starting and am waiting for the start deck I bought, but from borrowing decks by people who are adept atthe game..its a blast. Its still fun to just play, and even though im bit of a noob, I am enjoying myself. Though, I do understand the frustrations from the comp side.
3 months later. After V Prem's history and D's fes collection. We're going downhill.... fast... promos are still a nightmare to obtain, reprints are claimed to be done but nonexistent, and bushi's care for the game is best described with the new banlist for released for the EN side. Yeah we're on course for a titanic crash
Man, the OT mechanic was so poorly thought out, removes any ounce of skill from the game that's occured up to that point, and it's gotten so bad every time I check one, I feel the need to apologize to my opponent, even in tournaments. Unless they ban OTs, I'm not returning to D, the mechanic is WAY too feelbad, and if V dies, then I'm just out of the game, sadly, as my premium Glendios deck got nerfed into unplayability with the new Harmonics Messiah... man, this game is not treating my feels right!
I really dislike stride crest cause it makes it a challenge of can u rush me fast enough which I hate in general than shiranui got the same effect crest convincing me that bushiroad doesn’t play test with the nonsense that can happen in this game especially since shiranui kills by existing
Overdress is a pretty meh format. It’s really boring and has more bad things in it than good Introduced OT has V level triggers with G era guard numbers. Lanier format. I could go on but I won’t Overdress has had in my opinion a lacklustre appeal to me
D is easily the worst format. I never thought I'd miss V format considering how narrow and boring card design got and how everything was just swing big number win. But D format turned that up to eleven and even walked back all the good shield changes of V arguably it's best addition to the game. D format is basically unplayable, everyone swings for 60+ k constantly and there's barely enough converted shield in the entire deck to guard more than 1 or 2 times now. And clearly sellers could see the game is dying cuz they've stopped selling product no one wants to buy or sell anymore. Tournament numbers are at its lowest since year 1 of VG and it's depressing seeing this game crash and burn from its Golden Era of G😢

Why would you even buy them if you can't play them? As a collectible maybe?

Devlin getting praise from the Wslasher himself. lets gooooo
TLDR, Overdress great on Paper, but Bushiroad royally failed it just like it did every Past Era & to Cardfight Online.
It feels like the game is going to get rebooted again. Overdress power creep is gross in such a short span.

V was a massive mistake for the game. You can not confidently tell me that markers were even remotely fair and that V was balanced at all.
