    Its great to hear that you still going back to the S2. So easy for one to just go newer and newer nowdays. But for me, and seems for you and others that I know, going back to basics (engineering, camping, tools etc) is the true meaning of self-sufficiency.

      Well to me Karlos it is easier in the Series 2, you can't fix these modern 4x4's out in these remote areas. Cheers Geoff

    Cheers mate love everything you do, I have a GS perentie and love getting out having fun breaking stuff and fixing it, I also carry cardboard gasket sheet for the axles and spare hub caps for the obvious reasons

      Hi radaraacf. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and learnt a few things along the way. The Perentie is a great vehicle, one thing that I would suggest to do is always buy a newspaper before you go bush, to take with you. A newspaper works well as a gasket and if you can't fix the car you will have a crossword to do, to pass the time. Cheers Geoff

    Awesome video. A couple of questions:
    * What kind of locking diff do you run?
    * No love for hi-lift/farmer jacks?

    • @seriouslyseriesaustralia
      @seriouslyseriesaustralia 3 года назад

      Hi Simon. Sorry for my delayed reply to your questions. I am currently out bush, so mobile reception is a bit limited. Anyway on to your first question; We run two types of locking diffs, the ARB air lockers in the Series 3 and in the Series 2 we run a Mcnamara locking diff which have explained in Golden Quest episode 2. Link down below;

      In regards to the Hi- Lift/Farmer jacks, we are very much a fan and they are a very useful tool, though you just need to respect them when using them as they can back fire on you if they are mis-used or poorly maintained. Though a bottle jack and jacking plate can get you out of many situations and is very much a must have in this vehicle. Anyway best of luck with you adventures Simon. Kind regards, Geoff

    What don't you like about 3/8 sockets? Less of an issue with a series but for a disco2 they're great in the tight spaces of the engine bay just make sure they're a good 6 point set. Will say I'm jealous that a nanocom isn't on your list.

    • @seriouslyseriesaustralia
      @seriouslyseriesaustralia 3 года назад +1

      Hi Harry. I have found that you do not have as many options with the 3/8 socket sets and breaker bars, etc. So that is why I find a 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch socket sets work the best for me. Well, diagnostic tools are great on the modern Land Rovers (so yes differently recommend taking one), though on the Land Rovers which we use they are not much use as there is no where to plug it in to the motor :). Kind regards, Geoff

    Geoff, you said to not use molybdenum grease when facing paper gaskets. Why not? What's the problem with that? Thanks.

    • @seriouslyseriesaustralia
      @seriouslyseriesaustralia 2 года назад

      Hi John. Good question. molybdenum grease simply doesn't have as many applications as bearing grease and you need to be careful where you use it in regards to alloys. Kind regards, Geoff

    Another fantastic video. Please put me on the list to purchase your first editon of Seriously Series Guide to Overlanding with a Classic Land Rover! At least i am hoping! In lieu, even having a document with your notes and equipment list for sale on the online shop would be awesome!

      Hi Sean. Great to hear you liked and enjoyed the video. Damon and myself will keep the idea of writing a book on overland travel in mind for the future, great idea.For the moment a good one to check out is the First Overland written by Tim Slessor, they have list of the equipment which they used which makes interesting reading. Kind regards, Geoff

      Geoff, thanks for advice on First Overland it is a classic. I finally found a copy of Earth, My Friend. Reading it now.... written by an Englishman documenting his travels around the world in a series 1 the year following first overland. Book is extremely hard to find in the US and very expensive. I found an affordable copy from an online book dealer in Denmark.

    A R B. A good winch to. But your right my personal favorite series 1 or 2 Land Rover. 😁 I drive a 1970 conversion TDI 200 veg oil. Fan belt and filters and a hammer cut off switch. My mod good parabolic springs also love mod wheel's just fill up the space with BF Goodrich mud tyres😉🌎💚. Keep up the good work for next generations 😁👏#buzzofftoxic #ClimateCrisis

      depends on how the vehicle is loaded? Though if you don't have enough horse power through the use of your forward f=gears then yes reverse ( as it is always a lower ratio then first) will get you up the hill. Yes, a good set of tyres make all the different. thank you for your kind words, cheers Geoff
