    Any chance you’d be willing to share your show file? I’m learning in grandma3 but have been trying to learn ma2 since everyone uses it. It would be really helpful to have a show file to mess around with and learn from. ❤❤❤

    Great video!
    I have a question though. Which kind of dummy fixtures do you use and/or would you recommend using for a showfile?

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks for asking. You may use fixtures that have a good number of control options. So, that you can have more options in your presets.

      @@RamanujDeka Ah alright, are there any specific fixtures you can recommend me? Since I am a student without a lot of knowledge about types of fixtures.

    I'm kinda new to lighting, done three shows on an Avo T2, controlling both lighting and resolume and now i'm learning MA3
    My intention is to have an onPC Node and attach an Akai APC Mini to my laptop (not required for Avo but i think i'll need Touch OSC for MA3 right?)
    My question is, if you had only the laptop and the Akai what layout windows would you use and maybe pages, and what would you put there ?
    I've done it my way, just trying to figure if there's a better way
    Thank you

    Do i need to have the grandma2 hardware console itself to learn it or they have a software can do the same job or how.. I'm a beginner actually I'm sorry

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  2 года назад +2

      You can learn on the free GrandMA2 OnPC software and connect it to MA3D to pre-visualize. You need MA2 hardware only to output DMX, by unlocking parameters.

    3:36H-3:40 HOW DO YOU DO

  • @andrwwaugh
    @andrwwaugh 2 года назад +1

    If you trigger presets with a macro like that, if you clear the programmer, does it clear the colours?

    • @andrwwaugh
      @andrwwaugh 2 года назад +1

      It looks like a much more efficient method for having a reusable showfile, an area I sometimes struggle with
      But just wondering if there are any downsides

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  2 года назад +1

      Hi. Thanks for writing. I have had the same thought as you actually. If I clear the programmer, it does clears the colors. No doubt, it is efficient. But, sometimes when you're making a minor adjustment or making a change during show and have to clear your programmer, the colors away with it too. By now, I have made a newer file where I have had the fixtures selected in few Color effects that has a flat high of that color and this selection of groups into effects is done by a macro. Now, when I select a color, it does Go Effect instead of having the programmer active. Treating the Effect as an Executor. Hence, if I clear the programmer now it keeps everything that I need on.

    • @andrwwaugh
      @andrwwaugh 2 года назад +1

      Interesting! How's that working for you?
      Fx pool items are far easier to maintain (I wish there was a similar thing for easy editing of single cue cuelists) but I'm a sucker for fade times and I imagine this wouldn't work for that? (Maybe the global executor time?)
      I think I just need to build a macro to fast update my colour cues for a new rig.
      My colour picker is based on the giaffo plug-in, so all my colour are actually in the one cuelist, stored on a far away page, filtering groups by using worlds. There's pros and cons to this approach, but considering moving back to regular action buttons instead of a layout view (similar to how I work in onyx) as I feel it may be faster for changing things up on site and creating more interesting looks.
      Lots of pros and cons to different approaches!

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  2 года назад

      Firstly, it's working as it should. Cons are only that, sometimes I forget to hit the macro but that's no biggie.
      For fade time; I use the Exec Fade and Sometimes the Prog Fade.
      Another thing to mention would be the macros. As I make the groups which are firstly semitrically selected, It just needs to go to it's respective Dimmer / Position FX. So I got macros for that too.
      Now the process is to Make Groups, Make Layout, Overwrite Groups, Make Positions, Make Presets, Hit Macro for Dimmer, Hit Macro for Positions FX, Hit Macro for Colors and lastly hit macros for your personalized cues or execs and your showfile is ready.

    What are the clone layers used for and how do they work?

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  3 года назад

      Hi, thanks for writing. If you are familiar with fixture presets, such as - Position, Color, Gobo, Beam, etc. then you'll understand that, it's not possible to make a showfile with the preset pools. A MA operator can customize their showfile in all ways and so mostly their basic programming methods stay the same. So, instead of making Preset Pools evertime for a showfile, you might as well, just have it made already and all you do is update it. Also, effects support Preset data in their High and Low value inputs. That's why, clone layers with versatile fixtures are used. Apart from that, you can also use them to clone a showfile for another show.

    • @jakehues
      @jakehues 3 года назад

      @@RamanujDeka Thanks for getting back! Could you possilby briefly explain how they work as im still a little confused?

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  3 года назад +1

      @@jakehues Hey. Sure. So, say, you are programming a show... you make a new showfile, patch your fixtures, make groups, program positions, make color pools, set your focus, zoom, add gobos and effects. You will do this for every showfile that you create. What if, they are already set and all you need to do is to just update them every time you program your show? Hence, you patch dummy fixtures (without addressing DMX) that have the required channels that you need (fixtures with zoom, color, etc. capabilities). Try making a template show without fixtures. It's not possible. So, you'll need to patch dummy fixtures to make a template showfile that you can modify for each show. Hope this helps! I'll be here if you need more info.

    • @jakehues

      @@RamanujDeka Thanks for getting back. How exactly does the cloning process work? Commands, macros?

    • @RamanujDeka
      @RamanujDeka  3 года назад

      @@jakehues Tbh, I am not very experienced with cloning. Though I did it once using PSR or Partial Show Read. Here, you can import certain parameters of the show such as positions, effects, etc. other than that, you can literally copy and paste a fixture's data another fixture of the show you're importing/cloning to. I just found that a little complicated. So cloning is mostly that. You can clone by entering the setup menu. And, yeah people write macros for cloning.
