- 2 hrs runtime or 2 Acres of mowing. Amazing machine and low cosr of maintenance. Very powerful motor and speed. Ryobi, you did it right this time. Excellent tool for landscaping.

My english, not a concern. I had a gas lawn mower and I had all sorts of problems. It was way too expensive, gas expenses, oil, spark plugs burned, belts, emissions etc. This is a much better machine if you want precision mowing and around tight places. Two days ago, I mowed 3 acres, still a quarter of a battery left. The batteries will last 5 to 7 years, if you take care of them. $130 -$150 to replace them and after all of those years, to me that's amazing. The savings outweighs all the hassle of a much heavier zero turn machine. Still a great buy. All of my neighbors are amazed of how well this machine mowes like a champ. It doesnt take as much space on the garage either. And its quiet when the blades are not engaged, your ears will appreciate it and your neighbors too.

My Ryobi RM480E has been a great, dependable lawn mower, until June 12th, 2021. when it just stopped moving forward or reverse. I purchased the extended warranty, so I called Asurion Home Depot and the company set up a pickup sure enough Ryobi service center picked it up. The service center sent out a repairman to check the mower before loading up on the truck, he looked it over and said well it doesn't move, so we need to take it into the shop, they loaded it, and about a week later called and said that mower was working and couldn't repeat the fault of not moving, so they brought the mower back. Asurion warranty found Ryobi service centers all over my area and had them pick up the mower and see if it could be repaired, in 9 months 5 additional service shops, but none were able to figure it out. The latest repair center spent 9 hours talking with Ryobi and receiving parts that Ryobi techs said would fit it, none of the parts fixed my mower. Ryobi even sent new batteries to see if that would do it, so as of yesterday the repairman has given up and said he was through working on it. Now I have a worthless Ryobi mower that no one can figure out why it's not moving. Here are a few of the things I have been told in my conversations with Ryobi and some service centers and even Home Depot, the mowers are not made by Ryobi but are made by ATI in China, and ATI has proprietary information they are not willing to share with Ryobi. Then I was told Walmart has the same mowers under the brand Hart, which is the same as the Ryobi models. I can not complain about Asurion or Ryobi's customer service, but I do blame the company that made this mower ATI.

Buyer beware! This mower is made in China, and the batteries are only warrantied for 1 year. My Ryobi worked the first season, but the second season was dead (even after I keep the batteries charged up from time to time). By the time I got it in the shop the warranty had expired. New batteries would cost 1200 more or less according to Ryobi. I am still trying to see if Ryobi will do right by me, so I might update this comment at some point.
Thanks for the great review. I look forward to replacing my old ICE lawn mower with something like this. Wonder why the HD are being so cautious with these they already sell the EGO push lawn mower. I bet you could take a couple hundred dollars off it you didn't have to ship it to your house.
Thanks for the great review! I saw your replies about how the battery has held up well for well over a year. Some of the reviews I’ve read have reported battery issues, but I wonder if some of those are because of user error...battery over-discharged and left without charge for long periods of time. What is your routine for taking care of this mower and charging? Do you leave it plugged in when not in use? Thanks.

Looks like a go cart with a mower! I really want to buy one to save time mowing. I also think of where to put a portable speaker to listen to while mowing!! I have a few Ryobi 40 volt tools that I really like for my 1 acre place!!!

If maintained correctly batteries should last about 7 years and when replacing it should cost $600 or a little less.

good overview. please show the uncut grass against the cut grass... this same mower, gas, is 1000. it's hard to say 1600 in gas over a few years... but by golly it is simply badass. no need to spew crap into the air where u are. and if ur solar augmented, ur greener than the paint!

Click on the link, here is profesional info and comparison of expenses between gas vs. electric. I just cut 1.5 acres and came back with 2/3 of battery left. I thought it would consume more in 2 hrs but I was very surprised, maybe I can do 3 acres.
Couldn't say it better myself. I should do that next spring. I will post a before and after video soon.
It's not just about gas expense, it's about the hassle. Gas, oil, plugs, air filters, always something going on with gas engines. Especially when you don't use them for long periods, it's always a pain in the ass next time you go to use it.
I have a corded push mower, trimmer and blower at the moment, been awesome not dealing with any gas engines. My front tree started losing branches and I still have a gas powered chainsaw. It doesn't get used often and it was being a major pain in the ass to get it running again. Tired of F'n around, went to Wally World and got a cheap $50 corded saw... tree cut up in no time flat! Last major branch fell a week later... grab the electric saw... works every time... final branch gone in no time! Gas sucks for lawn equipment for basic home use.
Great when it's working. How many Ryobi shops are available to do any major repairs or trouble shoot? And do they pick up the mower if they can't fix it at your location? Things to know before you buy any major outdoor equipment. Things the sales people don't tell you or maybe they don't even know. Buyer beware!!!
Can you keep it plugged into the charger whenever your not using it? Or is that not good for the battery? Because I’d like to leave it plugged in so I know every time I use it it’s 100 percent charged
Riccar Rad, always keep it plugged in. If the batteries are kept unplugged for too long, the batteries wont charge at all, and you will need to get new batteries. If they are under warranty, Ryobi will replace them at not cost; but no warranty, it could get expensive. The batteries arent lithium, they are regular batteries.

One battery discharged completely and had to replace it. Make sure the blades are leveled so it won't stop during cutting. That's all. It handles soft hills well. I still have it and ready to do some maintenance finally after years.

Thanks for the helpful review. Can you share the link or website of the online comparison of electric vs gas mower that you mentioned at 7:35? The eco-friendly, lower cost of operation is appealing however I'm wondering if the savings on gas/oil is offset by the cost of replacing the four batteries over time. I really want this eco-friendly machine to be more cost effective but my back of the envelope calculations say otherwise. Looking at cost of ownership over a 10 yr period of a comparable gas rider at $1800 out the door + operation and maintenance versus the $2700 for this unit, at $10/year for the electric and $100/year for gas/oil it nets out to a $900 difference over 10 years of ownership which is exactly the difference in cost. Replacing each of the four batteries at $100 each over the 10 years puts cost of ownership in favor of the gas mower. Factoring in cost of environmental impact one could argue that the advantage still goes to the electric... although we still have to consider the impact of disposing of lead-acid batteries.

There are three scenarios per year, Best case $115 a year, $152 average and $237 worst case costs. Since I bought it I haven't spend a single dollar. No sharpening of blades, oil, etc. Zero dollar. I own 2 acres and by my calculations I will be sharpening my blades every 3 or 4 years, and battery replacement, every 10 to 13 years, if needed. Thanks for your comment.

@@MagdielSanchez - yeah I can see a lot of parallel maintenance between electric and gas, like blades, tires, etc. which is just a wash net-net. I like the sound of only replacing the batteries after 10 years but my experience on the gas mower batteries is they need changing about every 3-4 years. Are the four batteries that power the mower the same type of battery that would go into a gas mower or are they specifically designed for the electric mower?

TagumMotorCity, Ryobi is working on new accessories for it. At the moment, no snow plow yet. They do have leaf and clippings bag attachment for an extra $$.

How is this on hills and slopes??
I just pick up mine yesterday and on hills the machine has no problems,and slopes i was worried too cuse i read some people saying that you had to hit the brakes, not the case it slows down every time you take out your foot from the accelerator(gas).it doesn't stop completely but it also doesn't run away

lithium is LESS weight per pound per AH... not more... it is, though, WAY more money.
The Japanese are very very good with quality. Ryobi is a Japanese company so that's y it's good quality. It's the same with their cars, tools, and anime.
Think its actually a Korean Company.
How do these go over sticks and branches?
I had run over a few branches. But I rather avoid them. I wouldnt run the machine over anything thicker than 1/2 inch.
@@MagdielSanchez thank you. This machine has just been released in australia and I cant decide between this or a petrol (gas) zero turn. My property has a lot of trees and therefore a lot of sticks and branches.
@@the_zeplin_maker I have 2.5 acres with lots of trees, in your case a gas zero turn may be the way to go. The more power you use to chop the branches more the effort and battery drainage you'll experience, but if you want to save more on gas and maintenance expenses and less noise, Ryobi is the one.
@@MagdielSanchez thanks very much. You may be right...we have lots of gum trees here in australia and I want sure how the ryobi would go with these. Petrol (gas haha) may be the go for us. Pity as the ryobis look like a good piece of gear

It is important to get your words correct when explaining a product this expensive. The height adjustment lever has how settings?
Can it get rained on?
nevergiveup816 I had and no problem in the rain, the USB is covered with a lid,every button is well sealed the batteries are right under you though, that said, I advice safety, read the manual before buying one, I don't endorse riding electric vehicles under wet conditions. Im in contact with rubber all times while riding, the cables are insulated with a very thick rubber. I haven't had a problem yet. Use your best judgment.
nevergiveup816 Their instructions say to keep it out of the weather and not to wash it with water. I have been blowing mine off and wiping it down.
They are called "antiscalping " wheels... and the thing that cuts on the blades is the "PTO"...."cup holder" is the phrase you were looking for....
I'm sure that you can definitely vocally outlast the battery when it's fully charged, because you cannot stop talking! Mow the grass dude!

why not show mowing in reverse? don't know how?
Just stop the mower, disengage the blades by pressing down the red button, switch to reverse and press reverse mode. Always stop before switching directions.
I will consider this when they switch to lithium batteries and about a thousand dollar lower price tag.

Kamper Ken I spent $3800 on a John Deere tractor from the dealer. No Home Depot, MTD piece of shit. And I don’t ever wonder if it’s going to start. I also enjoy maintaining my equipment. Same reason I work in my own cars. I tried the electric crap for four seasons. Switched back and I’m much happier. This electric, plastic shit is for pussies. Enjoy.

Duston Diekmann no gas, oil, but cuts 4 acres in one charge, thats how far it goes. No BS. By far it kills all the extra expenses, regular gas machines use. Super happy! Thank you for your comments!
he may have ment cost. to replace the 4 batteries would cost $400 i looked it up. if they were lithium u can figure $800 or more plus lithiums dont like a dicharge of 20% or less its bad for them.
it also kept the price of the machine down.

Great mower..was looking at the same. Guess it depends what are u actually going to be doing with the mower. Its a coin toss i guess. I have a ryobi back pack leaf blower. Love it.. 4 years..knock on wood. Not downing u but its something all of us are thinking
Abandoned USA It makes your life easier and worry free of engine troubles. That's good enough for many people and my neighbors love how quiet it is compare to gas mowers. And the cutting, superb!

the cub hasent seen grass mowing in 3+ years and its 4yrs old warrenty ran out it was cheaper to buy used mowers so i bought 2 more used mowers and been using them since (so far)

You know... the thing I cannot figure out is why there aren't more solar-powered lawnmowers running around... I mean, think about it...
Because a single panel does not make enough electricity to fully charge in a day let alone power an electric lawn mower. It will literally never happen, does not make sense.

Then again... we can just plug the battery-operated one into a solar-power inverter to charge it. Might take 2-3 days worth of solar power to do it at most. One need only mow every 1.5 to 2 weeks where I live; so not necessarily an issue; especially where the yard is smaller. With mine:mowing 3 acres of a 6 acre lot, might take up to two trips to do it all. Will try this and see how it fares. At least solar panels are getting cheaper and cheaper to buy. I bought one of these and realized that this machine is over rated! It's actually a piece of junk and is not made to handle any terrain outside of an English garden. The battery drains down very quickly if it's going uphill. Better to buy a John Deere for the same price.
Call Ryobi, I have slopes thick grass and 2.5 acres. No problem. Maybe you have bad batteries. There are always defective products from a manufacturer. So, call Ryobi.
