  • Here is the first part of our two part walk through tour of Funspot. This video was taken in March of 2008 before the Summer time expansion was added.
This part consists of the Classic Arcade Museum. The third floor of FunSpot houses one of the very best collection of arcade and pinball games from the 70's, 80's and even some from the early 90's. (Smash TV!)
(Sorry for the poor video quality in advance, also a big hello to all of our fellow G1's!)

Funspot will never go out of business. There is so much else there besides videogames. Theres bowling, go karts, a bingo hall, tavern, restaurant and the fact that this place is busy like almost every day

The wall where the video starts is the first part of the expansion, they took out the locker room on the other side to fit more games in there.
The part your not seeing is right by where the Pole Position Cab is. They made an door way into the golf center and they put the indoor driving range stuff away so they can have more games out in the summer months.
You can see pictures of it from the 2008 Tournament if you check out our website.

The Lawton family has owned FunSpot since 1952. There's a really good book you can win that tells you all about the history of the place, WAY before there was arcade games.
Their not just an arcade, but they also have an indoor driving range, bowling ally, bingo hall and of course the museum.
Since King of Kong the place has had a ton of new visitors coming to check it out and last years tournament was the biggest yet.
It's always packed in the summer, so I don't see it going anywhere soon.

@e8tballz The third floor is a museum. They were the first organization to be recognized by the US government as an interactive museum for arcade games. Other gaming museums like the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas use FunSpot as an example when they file for a museum permit.

One thing I love about this place is the 80s music that plays constantly.

@Scizot79 This was 2600's first time with his new camera so he wasn't used to the settings. We rarely do walk around tours with his camera because of that. Plus when you go to Funspot the lights give off this weird orange glow that you need good quality lights to flush it out.

@eajoread This video was filmed back in 2008, Death Race wasn't officially unveiled until the tournament in 2009. I did see the machine before they got it fixed, so I think thats what you meant.

  • @ArcadeHunters
    @ArcadeHunters  13 лет назад

@masanf Yup, it's still there. They have a whole section on the wall about the restoration of the machine and the history of the game too.

Watch the other two videos of our Funspot tour. The bottom two floors contain the more current arcade games.
They don't offer the newest fighting games and music games like most arcades do, but they do have a good collection of racing games and redemption games for the kiddies.

@goodblue10 Yes, I have a video of it when they first took it out two years ago. Unfortunately the game doesn't work right now. Since the game was made in the 70's it uses an old tube monitor, a few months after it got back up and running, it died again. They plan to fix it again, so it might be running again after the busy summer season is over.

Are most of the games still "One Token Per Game"? For me, it's been amazing that they've been able to offer game plays that cheap for all these years.
    Thanks!

Hey, do they also carry current arcade games or are they all strictly vintage? Funspot first came to my attention after viewing the documentary "King of Kong." So the question I have is are all of its customer base composed of those freaks or is it more of a family affair? In this day and age of current generation consoles, it's hard (if you're a child or adolescent) to find any appeal that you might find on the Xbox 360 or Wii. Looks like a fun place tho.

What's the Summer Time expansion? I haven't been to Funspot in a while and I'm wondering what's changed...

@nick12882 Having played all the classic arcade games as a kid and now as an adult, I've always been taken aback at how small cabinets for games like Donkey Kong and Frogger were. Also, the old arcade cabinets seemed hollow in comparison to what would later come in the late 1980's.

Oh yeah, most of the games on the third floor are still a token a game. What's better is if you use the coupon so you can get almost 25 dollars worth of tokens for 20 bucks.

with the economy being the way it is along with arcades dying out bc of advanced video game technology, i wonder if this place would ever go out of business.... im guessing that the owners would never allow that to happen. they'll def. find a way to keep this place open/around until hell freezes over which is a great thing!!!!
