1996 Western Conference First Round Game 2
Mitch Richmond got one of his most important playoff wins in his career. The Kings upset the Sonics in Game 2 of the 1996 first round series. Series was tied 1-1. Richmond came out firing right from the opening tip and finished with 37 points. Richmond shutdown Gary Payton on the defensive end. Mitch Richmond is one of the most unrecognized scorers in the NBA. Good thing he has a championship ring.

Mitch was the only reason the Kings were making any noise in the 90’s, but that title of best Kings player definitely belongs to Webber. D-Fox is certainly making his case soon too now…

It was impresive for a shooting guard to have such a great game againts this Sonics. Not only were they a great defensive team, but individually, the backcourt had a Payton who was a very prowd defender and just one of the best defensive guards ever, Hawkins was darn good on defense too. And of the bench they had Mcmillan and Wingate, another duo of great defensive veteran guards. And this was in the playoffs, which makes it even more impresive.

No, I'm watching the Seattle Sonics play the Sacramento Kings.

I wouldn't say he lost his legacy to MJ, he played in the Western Conference so you can blame Barkley,Olajuwon, Malone etc. for not making it easier for those lesser western conf. teams to make the postseason and capture some spotlight(but from a SG standpoint i understand what you mean,Most would say after Jordan players like Drexler,Reggie Miller, even Steve Smith were better SG's when in reality Richmond was probably 3rd behind MJ, and Drexler during that era)

@Nebel64 Also in the same season where the defending champs beat the Sonics in 6 in the finals. I don't know why but i'm pretty sure the Bulls could have upset the powerhouse known as the Kings in the finals. I know they won like 39 games that year but I still think the Bulls could have taken them. I am also jealous that I didn't think of KarlMalowned as a username.

I don't know man....if he was playing for Sacramento today then Kobe would have been making him lose his legacy for the past 10 years haha. It would be even worse for him because he'd be playing in the same conference as Kobe and would pretty much never even make the all star team

    • @ChrisM07

@@fuckthechinesevirus9462 When the Rockets had Thorpe no they didn't it's about matchups. There's a reason the first time with Rudy T coaching it went to a deciding last game when the Rockets had him and they didn't win a single game against the Sonics without him, with a PF Dream didn't have to leave the paint as often.
The Sonics averaged 42% shooting overall the first 2 seasons the Rockets were a contending team, the lowest of all the West teams. They averaged close to 48% shooting when the Rockets were overmatched in that position that's a pretty big difference if you ask me.

    • @ChrisM07

Plus the Sonics were only a 4 seed the season the Rockets won with Drexler they probably wouldn't have made it to the West Finals regardless.

@dhide14 They didn't blast the Kings in Sac. I was at both games! The Kings had the lead until late in the 4th quarter in gm 3, when Sam Perkins and Frank Brickowski went on a 3 pt shooting spree with the help of GP. The Kings played better than the Sonics for 45 of the 48 mins. They did get blasted in Gm 4, but only because Mitch got hurt in the 1st quarter with an ankle injury and didn't return.
