Things You MUST Know about Older Sport Bikes!
#sportbike #oldsportbike #superbike Авто/Мото
If I missed anything that you think is important to know owning an older sport bike, please comment and let everyone know!
Corrosion of parts. Internal and external. Microcracks in the frame. Heavier than modern bikes. Carburetors, so less fuel mileage and less throttle response and they need to be maintained.
Straight up, if you can afford it, get a newer bike. If you can't, get a bike that is no more than 10 years old. Generally, stay away from anything from before 2010.
I think older 90’s sport bikes look the best! FZR and ZX7’s + SRAD and Fireblade
Suzuki’s RF600r lookin spicy
Made me laugh I just got a "older sports bike" thought I find some videos of older bikes then you call older bikes an 06 hahaha my bikes a fzr600 1990
Only 23000 miles on it
Nice! My ‘06 CBR was definitely old compared to my V4 Speciale. I would consider yours to be “ancient” 😉
serenity pillows That’s not bad at all for a 30 year old bike!
Haha yeah ancient but good
I got a 1987 fzr 1000 ayeee
Love your insight dude. Keep up the great vids! Heads up to anyone buying old bikes: sometimes more mileage is better than less. It's better a bike is ridden, & all of the mechanical parts move, than sit.
Thanks Zaid! Also, great point on the miles tip. I think I forgot to mention that in the vid. Motorcycles are like helicopters...If you don't use them, they break! Cheers!
Great video Fireblade! I love my RC51, even if it is an OLD bike! LOL. Keep up the great work man and ride safe!
The RC51 is a classic and amazing superbike! They are super rare to find now. Keep that baby forever man and ride safe. Cheers!
RC51 is a beautiful bike man, one of the coolest out there in my opinion.
You brought up a lot of smart points especially regarding insurance. I was over 40 years old & My 01 Monster 900 was 300 dollars a year for full coverage in NYC for the year.. when I went with a 13 848 EVO Geico wanted to change me over 130 $ a month! I ended up going with StateFarm for 56$ a month for the same coverage. Thanks for another great video
Thanks for your very informative comment! That's pretty crazy, the difference in insurance between a Monster and a 848! State Farm sounds like it has a pretty good deal with their insurance rates. I'll definitely have to get a quote from them. Cheers Charlie!
Great video. So cool to watch videos done in different parts of Florida. I’m in the Miami area. St. Pete is super nice 👍
I have a 93 Fireblade 900, I'm looking to rebuild the engine, repair the plastics, modernize the wiring, dash, and lights, add cruise control, and do a E85 conversion. It's pushing 124hp right now but after some work I think I can hit 150, displacement is perfect size for a subie turbo
Cool fire blade I don’t remember ever seeing that color.
Thanks! Yep, 2006 is the only year the Blue and Yellow was released.
Great video
I'm about to trade in a cbr500 2015 for a GSXR 600 2005, was worried that I'm compromising reliability for well everything else. It's from a dealer and getting 12month warranty, I like in the UK and it's costing me £200 insurance for the year. What's everyones thoughts? Thanks
Is a CBR 900RR relayable to join a crew?
Never seen that colour scheme before but its gorgeous. Much love from Scotland 🙂
Thanks Mate! 🙌
I have a 91 CBR600 f2 I was wondering what are the pros of getting a 2008 or newer
We’ll definitely horsepower and torque are my first thoughts. The F2 is a great bike, but it can’t compete with 2008 and newer bikes when it comes to suspension. I recommend getting a 2008 or new and also jeeping the F2. Cheers!
Where can I find one
I prefer older sports bike's my first sports bike was a 1990 gsx600f my brother had a 1999 gsxr600 they fit in good with newer sports bike's I currently have a Kawasaki KZ 750 our oldest son has a Kawasaki 636 my uncle has a Kawasaki KZ1000 my cousin has a Kawasaki ZX14
No my bike might not beat a newer sports bike but you can have just as much fun as a newer sports bike
Tbh, besides the third-generation R6 (one of which I personally own) and the Ducati 916/748 (I also own a 748), which are the two most beautiful bikes in history, I think this generation of CBR is right up there in terms of all-time looks. You merely say it could "hang" with the new bikes in terms of looks. Uh, no... it's superior in terms of looks.
I think it looks better than most of today's bikes. Today, they're too robotronic. They look really futuristic, which is cool, but they don't do it the right way - with beauty. Their lines are not nice and proportional and are too scattered and messy IMO. And, they've even become a bit chunky and boxy. For example, the third-generation R6 looks way more perfect than today's R6. Same for the mid-2000s CBR.
Your CBR looks really proportional and well-designed. Perfectly sharp, perfectly sleek, nice and pronounced rear end that's level with the rest of the bike (unlike the next-generation CBR, which had a fat and bubbly front end with a skinny rear end; it looked weird), and that sexy under-tail exhaust (which they also stupidly got rid of, going to that clunky, ugly cooking pan exhaust hanging out the side the next generation). Today's Panigale V4 by Ducati, which everyone is raving about as being the Rita Hayworth of bikes, I will venture out to say, is even a little off the mark. It's almost too curvy and round, its tank is too big and its ass end is too skinny. The older Panigale 959 was nice with the red-white-green. Today's new CBRs look pretty ok. Way better than the previous generation 1000s.
Yeah, your bike is hot. Keep it forever.
Probably not the best idea having a 13 r1 at age 19... insurance is expensive ASF no regrets though lmao
Ouch! At least you're enjoying that baby! Ride safe!!
I have a 2001 cbr 600 f4i and pay $27.00 a month for full coverage.but it’s payed for,I haven’t had tickets in 30 years and I’m 53 years old
I was just there today. He drove past the don Cesar hotel.
An 06 is old for a Honda. Parts availability is an issue with any Honda older than 10 years old. Ik the pain though lol I just got a 95 Ninja ZX600c with only 13k miles on it. It’s far from cosmetically perfect being 28 years old but rips like a new bike still. Parts are harder to find and usually dated so I’m slowly upgraded to more modern tech off the new bikes
I am Paying $170 every six months replacement value coverage including aftermarket parts.2916, But then again I have no tickets because I’ve been lucky and I have4 bikes I am insured with State Farm.
Thanks for the insight! That's a pretty darn good deal man! Which state do you live in? Insurance here in Florida is ridiculous because theft is high and we can ride year-round. Cheers!
The picture you put is way different than the bike you picked
5yrs makes a big difference. My 01 zx9r was still carburetted., something you didn't mention about your 06 ride. So servicing might have been something you didn't cover. Also 80s bikes have different tyre sizes.
Those are great points! My '06 definitely was not carbureted. That reminds me of old-school dirt bikes growing up! ;)
People talk insurance with no location, limits, and coverage, age, driving records.
Older, I Have a 1986 GSX-R 750 & a 1988 GSX-1100 Katana, Hell i'me older 55+. Ride then every weekend. Bikes you had to learn how to ride, no rider cheats.
20k miles on a bike is not a lot :) think 100k got a Japanese bike with proper maintenance. Your CBR will run for a long time brother!
2005 R1
Bike payment? Nope...save and buy only what you can afford. With interest, your purchase price actually near doubles. Get smart with your finances. Save...and buy what you can afford.
90's sports, ugly?.. Dude
LOL! I only speak the truth! ;)
FirebladePilot you’re trippin
Both cars he showed are from the late 1960's
My cbr500r costs 35 bucks a month, but I'm 45.
LOL. "older sports bikes". While I still rode my '83 Yamaha Turbo Seca until 2006 (and beyond).
LOL. That's not "older", that is ANCIENT! ;)
@@TheDucatiPilot
Yep. It was a hella fun bike though. The turbo was a little underpowered straight out of the factory, but you could weld a washer on the exhaust to make the opening smaller and boost the turbo almost 100%

>2006
>old
and here I'm on me 96 cbr 600
That's not old, that's Ancient! ;)
Old bikes rule
...and new bikes drool! 😉😂
Only fools drool on the the new school
😂
Honestly I hate the look of my 2000 Zx600 it looks so unsporty and slow even tho it’s not the flat gas tank the tight hugging fairings square headlights Make me wanna throw up
Oh my a Ducati. How many times did ya mention you had one. Who cares. I have I have I have. Umm bfd? Just ride
Don’t hate, appreciate! 😉🇮🇹
2006....Old sports bikes???
Yes Sir! My 2006 CBR was raw with no electronics. My V4 Speciale basically rides itself with everything turned on. Anything before 2004 isn't old...it's ancient LOL!
I guess I ride ancient got a 99 blackbird and a 96 thunder ace can’t find any newer bikes that give me the same ride cool vids tho learned a lot that I haven’t thought of before
Wtf if you think 2006 is old
Well it’s not ancient! 😉
That's not old , go 90,s or older you be old
IMO, that bike of yours is too new lol.
All this new stuff is killer ants from outer space. Too much tech and too much price..
