Hear me out: instead of straight-up destroying the MERCY button like Asgore did, Papyrus just smashes bones through it, lifting it high up in the air, almost to the top of the screen. You are unable to press the button until one of the final attacks in which the battlebox expands during that one attack with the really big bone that you have to jump over. In fact, the battlebox expands so much that the battlebox clips into the MERCY button, allowing you to press it during Papyrus's turn. I feel like this would be a really cool way of playing around with the mechanics the game has already put in place for us, and it would also fit thematically - Papyrus tries to resist your MERCY as much as he can, but in the end, you manage to get to him despite him giving his all.
I love this, especially as a mirror to Sans’ fight, he tried to prevent you from taking your turn but through your sheer power of determination you are able to break the rules of the game just like he has been and move the battle box to the FIGHT button

Getting to the MERCY button is an analogy for finally breaking through to him and him giving up on killing you.

I imagine that instead of being completely quiet like asgore, papyrus would talk to you for the entire fight, trying to explain why he justifies trying to take your soul but also encouraging you to try and take him down as well Also, since gaster is pretty much confirmed as taking asriel's role, I wonder if both asgore and toriel take charas role, or maybe one of them takes gasters role. This is just speculation but it's an interesting thought

Hey, I’m late, but considering that Deltarune 3-4 are confirmed to be coming out quite earlier than expected, it might just be the case. However, considering Papyrus is one of the best candidates for the Roaring Knight, we might not see him until chapter 5 at least.

This could work as an au for papyrus. Theirs an neutral ending where papyrus becomes king. This au could be called trousletale. Undyne Mettaton and Toriel would be dead.

well actually people _were_ forced to die in order for this to happen. the simpler explanation here is just that this doesn't take place after any of undertale's neutral routes.
So Would this be Paps theme in an Underground where Frisk (and/or the player) killed Undyne, Asgore and (possibly) Toriel during the neutral run Toriel doesn' really have to die because i think in the original Undertale she just... quits being a queen after the remaining monsters are unhappy with her new policy in the neutral run

Awwww god you can feel the anxiety in the tone and how he's trying to keep up a cheerful demeanor despite what's happening.
