Taskmasters been my favorite villain since i first played him in marvel vs capcom 3. Since then I’ve grown to appreciate him more as a character. As someone in college for education, i love the idea of this sassy villain teacher
I do recall Micheline saying he didn’t specifically intend for Scott and Tasky to be archenemies like that, it just worked out because he was the creator of both. Taskmaster is one of my favorite villains, but I really hate the “ex SHIELD agent who took a super serum and has memory issues” retcons. I realize “I lied” is villain 101, but his original origin makes it pretty obvious he’s a mutant. And his occasional side switching or teaching of heroes is easily explainable by him being the best of the best for teaching and being money motivated.
My favorite Taskmaster issues are his run ins with Moon Knight - when he copies MK skill set he finds out MKs "power" is the ability to take punishment so yeah, it hurts copying Moon Knight. I like your channel - youi should talk about comics books when the Hulk loves food - like beans in Defenders #89. Also Hulk took over a picnic in Defenders #49 - one of the Moon Knight issues. Hulk smash buffet! Keep on having fun!
One of the gimmicks of the Kurt Busiek/Erik Larsen Defenders maxi-series is that each issue or story is narrated by a different member of the team, and the most entertaining use of this device is when they do a story from Hulk's point of view and all of the caption boxes are written in Hulk Smash style. At one point, there's a big action sequence going on but Hulk is too busy eating to pay attention to it so the captions only talk about the food. We don't see Hulk eat, but we know he is eating because right as a time bomb is counting down the caption box in the panel says "Mmmm, beans!" Point being, I had no idea until reading your post that Hulk's love of beans was actually a running gag that the creative team must have researched from the Volume 1 series.
Best video yet. Big fan of Taskmaster and I loved seeing this retrospective. Never understood the reasoning behind the wonky costume in Deadpool #2 though and I don't remember him appearing anywhere else with that suit.
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn yeah sounds about right. It's an interesting look nonetheless. Wouldn't mind some Taskmaster figures with that costume as a variant
OBJECTION! Justice is named Vance Astrovik, his future counterpart, Major Victory of the Guardians of the Galaxy, later changes his name to Vance Astro, but Justice still uses the Astrovik surname. (Source: Marvel The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Ultimate Character Guide)
Thank You. I love these videos . Can you do one on Sebastian Shaw ? Dormammu? The US Agent? I don’t think that they should have given The Taskmaster an origin (His creator said that he was supposed to remain mysterious .). He’s a favorite of mine too . How was he portrayed in the movie?
Thanks. Yeah, I can cover all of those in time.....in Black Widow....Taskmaster was a female....which in itself could have been fine. But was basically a silent antagonist with no personality who, If I recall correctly has move sets on chips uploaded. The moves though we're awesome perfectly emulating moves from various heroes move for move from previous films. Just shows how amazing something could have been. As for his origin, I guess it is left nebulous if it's true or not ...so there's that
Aside from the awesome design, I love that Taskmaster isn't "evil" per se - he's just a criminal with a set of marketable skills. It makes him a lot more relatable than some of the mustache-twirlers bent on world domination.
There was a scene in The Initiative where Taskmaster and Constrictor talk about that. They never wanted to take over the world or make Iron Man kiss their boots. They just wanted to avoid the rat race and make a few bucks
While this happens much later in the character's history, it was hinted that Taskmasker may be the father of Finesse from Avengers Academy since she also has similar abilities to duplicate physical movements and master any skill quickly. Personally, I like how they left that an open mystery, as Taskmaster has no memory of having a daughter but there's no way to know if that's because it's one of his lost memories.
Yep. Avengers Academy is an underrated series. But, if I recall it's actually kind of sad because I think he would embrace the connection of having a daughter but the more he uses his abilities the more memories he pushed out. Tragic
It's a shame that he never made it into the Amalgam crossover universe (unless he somehow actually did and I just can't find it. _Entirely_ possible). I think a gestalt Taskmaster/Deathstroke character would've worked well there (imagine a fight between him and Darkclaw, the Batman/Wolverine mix), but they went another route instead (Deathstroke/Daredevil and Deathstroke/X-Cutioner). To me, that just seems like a more natural melding, but clearly they had other ideas.
I had all his early appearances, including the first. NOT a top tier villain, and he himself mad sure of that, wisely, but a unique on. He had some real bumps & nonsense later on. I really liked him in the 80's
We didn't have money so keeping comics cheaper than soda was important. Most of us fallowed about 3 comic stories at once. Plus those limited series often in the summer time.
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn I was buying them for $0.25 then $0.45. then the outrageous $.75. It was around then I was driving more and gas prices were getting closer to $1 a gallon. I stopped buying comics regularly. I still have several long boxes and a couple short boxes with over 90% in bags and less than 1% with boards. It might be time for eBay. In the 80's I started to buy more than one copy of it was a cool mini series or number one book. I think I have 3-4 number 1, Web of spiderman.
you know what taskmaster one true weaknesses, unpredictability mainly because if he went up a get somebody who is truly wild un hedge, and downright unpredictable like Deadpool, he’s basically helpless and worthless
Yup. Though I believe there is one time he goes up against Deadpool and gets beat. But goes on to say it's because he can't figure out his moves to predict them. But also that Deadpool is that good
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn that’s what I was saying I guess also, it helps Deadpool that he has the worlds greatest healing factor so if he could kill him he wouldn’t be kept down for long
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn plus I’m also certain in some continuities taskmaster is actually afraid of Deadpool because he’s the only person that could truly beat him
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn Considering Taskmaster doesn't have a healing factor, it could be downright lethal for him to copy 'Pool's fighting style. Similarly, he hates fighting/copying Moon Knight because of how much punishment he invites with the way he fights.
I saw a comic once where Scott Lang refered to Taskmaster as his arch enemy and Taskmaster embarrassed denied Scotts claims that hes his arch enemy. But i guess looking back on history, in the beginning maybe Scott was right?
yeah, his capture is weak...and I mean, you have the Thing there. He is indeed, way too dangerous for Tasky, so if he got discombobulated by some overwhelming super strength feat (a thunderclap or groundstrike, say)...yeah, mopped up by Vance, cops or even more Ben is ok. OTOH, that Avengers team he started on included Wonderman...and was no joke. He coulda just got away again, perhaps. ah well.
Exactly....like maybe he takes off to not tangle with the thing....gets tripped up by Vance's telepathy and the Thing catches him proving him right and capturing him.....not just a bunch of normal dudes off panel
I wouldn't say extremely....but quite disappointed yes. The look was fine, the move sets and choreography was pretty on point. Even being a woman was....acceptable. but to take away all personality and quippyness ruins the character
Taskmaster could legit have his own martial arts dojo and make millions as a highly sought out trainer for the right price.
I believe you meant to say "Peter Parker possesses a pair of purportedly passed away parents".
I didn't mean to, but I wish I had.

Photogenic reflexes! And the picture after? ROFL
Steve Blum is always the voice I hear in the comics just fits the way he talks so much.
I was actually a fan of Clancy Brown. Though Steve Blum crushes everything he voices
Oh man, I read AMS 308 back when I was a kid and have been trying to remember which issue it was for years. Thank you!

Just finished reading the Initiative a few days ago! Timely!
It's so good! I'll re-read that every couple of years at least
Found this channel not to long ago, really enjoying your videos man. Also Taskmaster has maybe one of the greatest villain designs in comics.
Such a great look indeed, and I'm glad you found the channel, welcome in
