This show was freaking awesome and it's a crying shame that it got cancelled after 39 episodes. The studio had more planned for this series. Hordak was supposed to return and conquer Eternia. He-Man and the Masters would have been on the run and trying to fight back. Skeletor would have eventually been the one to overthrow him, in doing so he would have become more powerful than before and become the series head villain again.
This show had the same essence of the 2011 Thundercats series, awesome show but got cut indefinitely. As far as I'm concerned, this is the He Man reboot we got, not that abysmal netflix one.
Thank you Kevin Smith, if it wasn't for you a lot of us would have not discovered this awesome 2002 series of He-Man. I really hope they release the HD version of this series.
If the series had continued past the "Snake Men", we would have gotten a chance to see Hordak and the Horde, which potentially could have brought in She-Ra.
For some reason I believe the females would've looked sexy if She-Ra would've been in this cartoon series. I can already imagine Castaspella and a sexy Catra unlike the new She-Ra garbage that aired.
I think the origin of Skeletor was created in a short series of comic book in the 80s. maybe in the revamp they just inspired themselves from it or created their own thing.
Gary Chalk(optimus prime/primal) was in it as man at arms also. I remember loving the insane amount of strength HeMan had in it, lifting enormous boulders the size of a house, and everyone was twirling their melee weapons helicopter style.
The manly silverback thundering Alpha male voice of this He-man here gave me a quirky mangasm everytime he would yell out: "I have the powerrrrrr!" In that deep voice of his.
Its not really a retelling, there wasnt a telling to begin with since the original show didnt really have a straighfoward continuity, this is a very coherent reboot of the original that incorperates the story elements the original established and fits it together in a way that works
This series was absolutely brilliant, was so angry when it got cancelled. For those who don't know, if you buy the 4 disc DVD set, on the 4th disc, there is a pdf comic of the unproduced 40th episode.
Better art direction, too. It went for a more action-packed approach while retaining the charm of the classic toys and cartoon. The art in Revelations was a soulless attempt at nostalgia and Orko's eyes freaked me out.

Unfortunately, toy sales are the end all be all for series like this. They botched things on that end so it didn't matter how good the tie-in was or how well received it was if it did not shift units (of toys which were not available in time, mind you).
The most memorable part of this intro is they interrupt the intro. The first season opening though was better casue Adam was just standing there deadpan like this was boring, as how a prepubescent kid would act trying to explain something.
For Orco's Background: The Dimension, where Eternia lies and Orco's dimension are neighbours, but seperated through a dimensional barrier. On Trolla, Orco's homeworld, he was indeed the mightiest Wizzard of his kind. But one of his spell went wrong and he landed on Eternia where the power of Castle Grayskull overwhelms his own so he can't really use his powers and isn't treated serious by his friends and more like a comic relief character. In the series, we see one of his ancestors interact with King Grayskull and it seemed, that his magic worked because Castle Grayskull was a "ordinary" castle at that time
@@joeesperanto678 Eh, what's that supposed to mean? There were always strong women in the original series, right from the start. The fact that He-Man (the character) worked *with* the other chars, and the women weren't just sitting around waiting for him to show up/save them, was one of the cooler things about the original series IMO. It's a big part of what I didn't like here - original!Teela would have totally worked with folks to make things better from the start, not struck out on her own leaving the kingdom/planet to suffer, or had to be convinced (again, for mostly personal reasons).

I liked He Man 2002 because the characters designs, voices and the episodes are a lot better than the origianl He Man Series from the 80s. Although I still wished the series have two or three more episodes after episode 39 when King Hiss and Serpos were defeated by He Man and Zodak before it's finished forever. I mean they left the final episode as cliffhangers with some unanswer question like: 1. Have the master of the universe rebuild the Kingdom of Enternia that was destroyed by Serpos? 2.Has Sorceress recover from King Hiss's venom and her scar are finally gone? 3. Have Skeletor and his minion resurface with Snake Mountain now have three heads instead of one? 4. What became of the Snakemen after King Hiss is gone and they retreat in ep 39? 5. Have Teela finally learn that she's the Sorceress daughter and has her own power awaken as well as learn of her destiny? 6. Is Fristo (Man-At-Arms's brother) finally remember his past like is he the Sorceress's forgotten husband and is he Teela's real father? 7. Has Prince Adam finally reveal his secret to his parents and master of the universe that he's He Man this whole time and how will they react? 8. Where's Ork in episode 39 since he disappeared after episode 34?
This reboot was actually very amazing in my opinion and even better than the original in terms of fully fleshed out lure. I loves how everything had an explanation for why things were. And the the best aspect was making sense of why the castle was called Gray Skull and all that history that predated He-man. I love the significance of classic enemies like Hordak and King Hiss being enemies of Gray Skull way before He-man was creating, giving them a step up in how dangerous they were compared to Skeletor. And I loves the power scaling. Not only did you have differences between different characters, but He-man was not always the most powerful.
The Heman 2002 series was such a breath air of a reboot! Gone are the ' Lets wait for Heman' plots and now more action from the Actual Masters of The Universe! I thought it was terrible shame it suffered the unusual time shift airings( signs of cancellation) and later pushed onto Boomerang later; but will always remembered as a fantastic show that honored the 80s Heman!

This reboot was so awesome!!! It was on Netflix for awhile, and they pulled it!! And we all now know why! Me and my friends watched it every Saturday night. Story was amazing.
Kevin Smith is a lying hack. He wouldn’t have learned shit. He literally defended his actions by comparing He-Man’s death in the show to the crucifixion of Jesus. I’m not joking. He literally said that. Regardless of whether or not you believe in Christianity, only an egotistical nut job would compare the death of a cartoon character in his show to the death of the Christian Messiah. How big is his ego?
I feel that the animation was great but the story telling was all wrong. Some of the characters changes were good and some bad (Especially Teela) But I think it would have been better if Kevin Smith had told the truth in the first place but still he took the story in the wrong direction. I would have loved to have seen a continuation of the 2002 He-Man series. But that's Hollywood for you, they don't care about the origins of the series that they're making a production of.

He - Man 2000s, TMNT and Jackie Chan Adventures are all criminally underrated. He Man was a cool show, Skeltor was awesome and the overall show had some cool characters and stories. AND THAT VOICE AND THEME IS STILL AMAZING ... In my top 10 cartoons ever. JCA - Awesome fun show that I loved as a kid. I loved the Chinese mythology, demons, talismans, Shindu especially... Everything. I know it falls off in later seasons which TMNT does also.
I really liked 2002-2004 He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe! The character designs were good, the animation was decent and Adam was designed smaller than He-Man. Which is a good thing! It should not have obvious that Adam and He-Man were the same man. I really liked how He-Man, Man At Arms, Teela, Orko and the Sorceress were depicted. The writing was solid. I agree that the music wasn't great. Overall it was a good show. The new Netflix show looks amazing from the trailer, but it has been revealed it's going to be mostly about Teela and the others as they try to find He-Man after a big battle with Skeletor. I think I'll skip this one.

Those people should have been fired for being disrespectful, rude, assholes who no respect for true art or the fact that people loved descent shows for a logical reason. I hate it when such assholes are in charge and they are not fired like they should have been.
@UCb2rW5Um9VR5xiX17h4Y9cg I'm just saying it as I've seen it. There's been a big decrease in good animation in the past 20 to 30 years. I prefer detailed animation over simplified. And serious over stupidity for storytelling.
Willis Jackson+ Today's kids are far luckier than us. They have MCU, Sony Marvel movies, X Men movies, DC comics universe, DC animated movies and video games, today's Superhero Web series are far better than 80s and 90s. We more millions of Anime shows than ever. When we were kids we could only dream of watching a Superhero movie in theater every year, but today there at least 3 to 4 superhero movies running at the same time.
@@comrade3186 That depends. Do you like the movies that change the original content of the comics and don't stay true to how the characters were developed or do you like it when they keep the original story alive? Myself personally I prefer to keep it to the original content.
This will remain a better He-Man than the netflix show. Mark my words.

@@basestationps9479 Because of potential forced identity politics.

There’s been a lot of rumors floating around that He-Man will pretty much lose the first fight in the show, disappear and leave Teela to fix everything as the main character. There’s some other stuff as well but this is probably the reason a lot of us don’t dare trust that this will be good.
@@miraihibino1277 I see, but in my opinion it would give more depth to the other characters in the show as the original didn’t. So if they do it right it could very well be equal to or be better than the original.
A comic was made based on the script for the 40th episode.
They even had plans to introduce She-Ra. They even came out with convention exclusive toy as a proof of concept for how she was gonna look.
Are you still around?
This show had the same essence of the 2011 Thundercats series, awesome show but got cut indefinitely. As far as I'm concerned, this is the He Man reboot we got, not that abysmal netflix one.
agreed
90s shows will always be better
Both this and the 2011 Thundercats were soo good
Much better than the Kevin Smith’s reboot
I heard about it with he man fans calling it the last Jedi of the he man franchise. That's an ouch.

Thank you Kevin Smith, if it wasn't for you a lot of us would have not discovered this awesome 2002 series of He-Man. I really hope they release the HD version of this series.
i love how many thing that were introduced in this series (eg, King Greyskull, Skeletor's origin) were incorporated into the original MOTU universe
@@derangedcrouton1864 Nice.
I think the origin of Skeletor was created in a short series of comic book in the 80s. maybe in the revamp they just inspired themselves from it or created their own thing.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 that one was more implied, this was the one that confirmed that Keldor and Skeletor are the same person
This was the best version of He Man. They need to continue this series.
This reboot was damn near perfect.....Cam Clarke (Leonardo of the 1987 TMNT series) was great as Adam/He-Man
Facts. The reboot was lit. I still watch it today. Hopefully the new Netflix series will also be good.
I always remembered Cam Clarke as Liquid Snake, but when I first found out he did the voice of Adam/He-Man I was all like “He’s not British?!”
@@blaxpoitation8528 I came from the future. It is very dark here. I think I will stay your time for a minute.
This was a very underrated retelling! Just like Thundercats!

How was this made in 2002, probably with a tiny budget and yet it still has better animation then Revaluations?!?
Because people actually took their jobs seriously back then
Better art direction, too. It went for a more action-packed approach while retaining the charm of the classic toys and cartoon. The art in Revelations was a soulless attempt at nostalgia and Orko's eyes freaked me out.
another victim of cartoon network mismanagement and favoritism

This was a series that was cut off way too soon. It was everything a He-Man show should emulate. the 2nd interpretation sucked, but this one did it right.
This and the thundercats reboot that used to play on adult swim
The new She-ra and that dumb Thundercats ROAR abomination really ruined it for everyone else.
@@joeesperanto678 EXACTLY!!
Unfortunately, toy sales are the end all be all for series like this. They botched things on that end so it didn't matter how good the tie-in was or how well received it was if it did not shift units (of toys which were not available in time, mind you).
Because of what happened to Skeletor. It was so disturbing that we now have a collective fear of fire.
In the series, we see one of his ancestors interact with King Grayskull and it seemed, that his magic worked because Castle Grayskull was a "ordinary" castle at that time
Yeah he was the great mage Overseer of his time. Like a sort of god actually. They nerfed him to cater the little g+ kiddie audience of the time.
@@joeesperanto678 Also so that every problem couldn't be solved by Orko throwing a mountain on someone - gotta serve the narrative :)
@@mandisaw No one should look better than He-man, except for Teela now since "Vagina power" is now a thing.

So busy being angry she's derelict in her duties, and abandoned her post.
Her jobs before promotion didn't cease afterward promotion.
She was the captain of the guard, and this should have earned her a death sentence, Bodyguard to Prince Adam. Berates his father for adam , while he's actively mourning the loss of his son.

This was my He-Man growing up. I had all the McDonald's toys. My grandmother and parents got me a whole mess of toys for my 5th birthday. Castle Greyskull, He-Man, Skeletor, Tri-Klops, Beast-Man, Man-At-Arms, Mekanek, Battle-Cat, and a VHS tape with the TV movie. I wish I still had them, but 5 year old me and my then toddler brother were rough on toys.
This show is definitely the best version of He-Man hands down!
We'll see if this is still true after the new reboot
It will probably the best after it to because the new one people are saying is gonna suck
He man is not even gonna be the main character in upcoming one
@@FakeJake5843 that doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad though? It just means we’d get more familiar with the rest of the characters instead of just seeing them around doing nothing but getting saved like in the original
Ty. My man. I feel like this 1000%, excellent combination of action, backstory, n further detail of these characters. Trying to stay true as much as possible to og he-man.
I liked He Man 2002 because the characters designs, voices and the episodes are a lot better than the origianl He Man Series from the 80s. Although I still wished the series have two or three more episodes after episode 39 when King Hiss and Serpos were defeated by He Man and Zodak before it's finished forever.
I mean they left the final episode as cliffhangers with some unanswer question like:
It was foolish of us to even think for a second that a show called "HE-MAN" could go unscathed in this day and age 😔
If thundercats wasn't safe we should've known he-man wasn't

The attention to detail was amazing on this show. One of my favorite things was that Cringer used cat noises instead of tiger noises.
If only Kevin Smith had seen this. He might have learnt something...

This was a great show, I think I have it on dvd, new netflix show looks like garbage compared to this.
Spoiler alert it is
I feel that the animation was great but the story telling was all wrong.
This was a brilliant reboot! Unfortunately I only discovered it after it stopped but really think this was highly underrated! I recently watched the Revelations version on Netflix and was so disappointed. It's turned into a cringe fest, tick box exercise!
Dear Kevin Smith...
DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH BRAVESTARR!
He - Man 2000s, TMNT and Jackie Chan Adventures are all criminally underrated.
He Man was a cool show, Skeltor was awesome and the overall show had some cool characters and stories.
TMNT was my favorite and in my opinion the best Ninja Turtles show ever made. The Shredder ( until finding out it was basically Krane) was one of my favorite villains ever...
I really liked how He-Man, Man At Arms, Teela, Orko and the Sorceress were
depicted. The writing was solid. I agree that the music wasn't great. Overall it was a good show. The new Netflix show looks amazing from the trailer, but it has been revealed
it's going to be mostly about Teela and the others as they try to find He-Man after a big battle with Skeletor. I think I'll skip this one.
If we only knew how good we had it back then
Funny how you said Adam has to protect his identity of He Man so he doesn't get shanked by Skeletor. That's exactly what happened in Netflix Masters of the Universe. Did you time travel?
For this to be made 6 months ago. Is amazing for today's He-man's death.
I loved this show as a kid. Shame it ended.
This was the He-man I watched, cos I'm a 90s baby, and I really liked it.
