Hey hey ive been doing rear delts for years. Multiple time your tips have given my rear delts way more pop!!!Great tips!!love the explanation man .such a tricky body part even for advanced guys to develop .
You helped him stop from recruiting all the supporting muscles around his rear delts, & isolated the rear delts themselves as the primary working muscle. *Decreasing the weight used allowed his rear-delts to actually be able handle it & get worked properly, without any other muscles taking over* (keep the ego out of your lifts, & the results will speak for themselves)
i would add to this , focusing on full range of motion with a confirmed contraction and more time under tension. this is how i lift and alwasy see people doing any particular exercise and not even recruiting the correct muscel they are trying to tarket! everyone is just concerned with moving weight as oppsoed to preoperly engaging , holding and controlling the weight particluarly on the negative part.
I had the chance to train with Mike when he was doing his Titan Tours. Absolute top guy. Extremely genuine with his knowledge and with helping others to be the best they can be. Best training sessions I have ever had. It is an inspiration to see Mike still killing it today.
Damn, I just got through with my shoulder workout and did the same exact movement as this guy was doing earlier thinking I was killing it. Can't wait to try this variation next time.
Legend! I don’t know why this guy gets so much hate. He knows SO MUCH MORE than virtually all the haters put together. Learn from his experience. I wish I could spend a week with this guy my whole lifting career would change and I would be light years ahead because of his knowledge. Greetings from Holland, Mike! 💪😎
I think the idea that Mike O’Hearn is being centered towards the discernment of using certain positions to maintain muscle recruitment with the bench use and the arm is absolutely right. You can in certain cases use what large groups of muscles with extreme weight in what is recruiting more grip or clutch strength. And in doing so develop core power and conditioning intensity as well as growth of the large muscle groups that the person performing the lift naturally creates his power with. What conditioning and intensity lacks is the other muscle engagement. He has a way to recruit the muscles and watching his practice is immediately great training material!
Your dedication to your craft is amazing. Even those that don’t lift can learn from your habits. Thank you for showing us your dedication. You are a living legend sir
this is exactly what I started to do in my workouts. I put my ego in check at the door, lighten up the weight, focus on my form and started to concentrate on the muscle im working. I'm not a big guy 5'10 172lbs, I have however started to notice the change in my body now that I'm doing this with my workout routine.
Dropping the weight made it more possible for the rear delt to do the job almost on it’s own. With more weight , more surrounding muscles ( that are stronger) take over the job.. another thing I noticed, but I could be wrong.. he could go further in the movement and at the end contract the rear delt even more, while the other muscles are already locked in position.. + holding with rear delts now fully contracted. GREAT LESSON 🙏🙏❤️
His other muscles were overcompensating for is under developed rear delts. So you changed the form to isolate the rear delt so it will actually engage and develop
Your experiences are worth their weight in gold, I've also been training for over 30 years, but you pay much more attention to all the details.Greets from Germany
I never really comment but I had to on this. I’ve always struggled with rear delts and to say they are lagging is an understatement. Not through neglect simply through poor mind muscle connection poor form all other muscles jumping in. All the classic errors I’ve never been able to correct properly. Hit them one workout think yes that’s it. Only for the next workout to not feel it the same way. I went in the gym and done these today and felt not only a strong contraction but felt it on every rep. Much appreciated for this video.
Super Sir it looks like the grip was adjusted, to ensure the muscle groups that aren’t worked were engaged, and the pause fully worked the muscle group to the max. Also the pause seem to benefit all exercises. The technique alone.
Yes! We want that routine! You just got yourself a subscriber. Thanks mike! Damn good call on the weight/ hand position. Everyone seems to want to do heavyweight instead of effective hypertrophy on the small muscles
This is an amazing move.. U totally cut off the upper back to assist on the back delt hence total isolation workout on the back delt.. Great tweak Mike.. Will try it today
You shock the inner shoulder muscles with low weights. And adjusting the hands into a different location on the machine that made the dorment shoulder muscles SHOCK stimulant therapy to them.👍
It’s the grip. Weaker grip. The line of pull is the same. It does not add anything additional to rear deltoid. Similar to doing a triceps pull down pronated grip vs supinated grip.
I have a bit of shoulder pain in my front part of my shoulder, but side raises and rear Delt movements feel fine so I’m working around it. Great stuff to apply!
@@MikeOHearnTitan i dont have instagram but i have a tik tok Dennisxgym i follow you on there got few vids but im making a transformation video in the works.
I'll try this form on the rear delt tomorrow. My rear delts are also weak, I dont have the straight line from front delt to rear delt when viewing from the side and I really wanna bring it up. Traps take over when I go heavy....
This is great info! Unfortunately I don't have access to that machine. Any gold nuggets on dumbbells maybe? Or any other good rear delt home gym methods?
So true your weak spots required detailed attention and I think it doesn’t help unfortunately when you hit the gym with friends all the time cause that ego doesn’t allow you to really focus on quality reps , I prefer to workout alone and my results improved big time !!! 👍
I wonder how many people think you can throw around heavy weight with crappy form and still maximize growth for the small neglected muscles. You gotta isolate it and then go as heavy as you can. It’s all about technique.
Check yourself before you wreck yourself! A rap lyric that means so much in reference to muscle growth and control! When Mike speaks you have to listen!
External rotation is where the magic happens. This is why I do thumbs-up laterals bending forward enough to lower the weights to my crotch; it hits those rear delts and takes the anteriors out of the equation.
You eliminated the larger muscle groups, and honed in on the rear delts by repositioning his form and lowering the weight so his delts could be targeted.
You changed the angle of the lift with a higher hand placement. This in return didn’t allow him to recruit the larger stronger muscles that we’re dominating the movement pattern and basically factoring out the rear delts. It was obvious that the rear delt became the primary mover with higher hand placement based on how he struggled to move significantly less weight than he did the way he typically does the exercise. Form and technique are critical when it comes to optimizing size and strength.
Big weight all rhomboid/tri/mid and low trap...medial scap winging out as weight is too much...lower weight proper form isolates rear deltoid whichis the weak muscle
Like this video and I'll post todays full shoulder routine.
Awesome advice, no more ego lifting, just isolate those rear delts. As always thanks Mike, for all the vids not just this one.
thank you for this mike really really helpful!!!

It's like going heavy on back workout. But your biceps/forearms is more sore then your back.
Im going to steal this for my own workout! thank you!!

Powerhouse of knowledge, Sir Mike O'Hearn

Mike is the best. Dropped that ego lifting real quick. Target the right muscles by moving it effectively
This kind of like when Mr. Miyagi showed Daniel-son the reason behind "wax-on/wax-off, painting the fence, and sanding the floor." 💡
lol this is great

If the guy was having a heart attack , Mike would describe the way the Heart is not working properly and it be a 12 minute video
This has been a game changer for me! Thanks Mike for all your wisdom and for being generous enough to share all your knowledge with us 🙏🏾
im getting goosebumbs from this short teaching videos, THANK YOU ALOT

The point of putting ego lifting aside so you can feel the body part that you're trying to work is the basis of the video.

Probably one of the best videos you’ve made… ice cold facts
That’s a real teacher!
changing position of his grip allowed him to target the rear delts
hand movements and placements changes everything
I am finding that lower weight and concentration hits muscles in a completely different and more effective way. Thanks Mike!

Isolation and focused training the rear Delts with a simple grip change.💪👍

Time under tension got it!
Got it also nice view in the background doing lunges
This some technical stuff man. Learn it from the master himself. 💪

Changing his grip was key to isolate the muscle then bring down the weight so the muscle can handle it
Heavy wasn't hitting the delt. I give him props for lifting the entire stack. Above the Handel's pause to SQUEEZE THE DELTS!!!
I’m gonna do it too Mike, Tonight I start

Interesting advice at the end.
First he was pushing back with all the assisted muscles. By changing the grip he’s now pulling and now he’s activating that rear little muscle

Love it . Thx Mike
More importantly, share your dermatologic secrets. They are golden!
What your doing is working all muscle to connect into making a different style of movement but changing it up is a different rep range
Sheesh! You taught and he listened. Success

U made isolate the rear delta MOH u r so awesome 💪🏾🏋🏾♀️
I normally do 175lbs on the rear delts and doing it this way I barely do 70 lbs. Takes the traps and mid back out of the lift
u cant ... ur welcome

Stabilization scapula and quality working post deltoid plus mind to muscle. Real nice:)

I dont even lift but you inspire me to lift...one day.
Switched grip position to target on his rear felt
Wow those rear delts blew up with that little change and taking away the ego.

Learned something new
Big weight all rhomboid/tri/mid and low trap...medial scap winging out as weight is too much...lower weight proper form isolates rear deltoid whichis the weak muscle
