- Got a clip with two black bars at the top and bottom? or vice versa. Here's a quick and easy tutorial on how to remove those black bars on both top, bottom, left and right. These black bars appear due to incorrect aspect ratio, meaning the clips are recorded in a smaller or larger dimension size.

*NOTE:* On removal two ❷ you can click the drop down ⯆ menu in event/crop for presets and choose *"16:9 Widescreen TV aspect ratio"* this will quickly give you the correct template but may cut some things out the frame
dude i spent over an hour trying to find someone who did this tutorial right and your first method worked perfect for me thank you so much
Really gald it worked for you
Seconded, many thanks.
thank thank thank you!!! especially that last method! that was a lifesaver
Thanks dude! After the second option failed for me i found your video and the first option worked!
rather than doing this, You can rather change the resolution of the video to the original video while rendering :) most sites will accept that resolution size and remove black bars. IDK why many people haven't figured this out?
Thank you, I’d been wondering how to do this for a while👍🏻
Thank you so much, these black bars were so annoying to deal with
doing gods work sir
THANK YOU
I record in 1722x1070 and I do all the steps for the first method and there’s still black bars at the top and bottom after it’s done rendering
What template settings do you have on that project?
VerticDesigns I matched it with my res for the resolution. (1722x1070)
You can use VIDEO FX>Chroma Key to make a background color of a video transparent like a green screen for example.
Good tip 👍
wow i didnt know it was that easy lmao thanks

yeh it's a little weird at first and it gets you thinking lol
Cant u save that u Take off “maintain aspect ratio” ? To when u have many clips together.
If you have multiple clips then id say to pre-render it and then apply it to all to save time
@@VerticDesigns How to do that?
Thank you man! :D

@@VerticDesigns Thanks to you, I fixed new video. However, I have no idea what caused those black bars, nor I could fix it. Thanks once again ;)
@@nexwexbackup just make sure you record your videos in the correct resolution size
@@VerticDesigns I did it. Perhaps, some mistake emerged somewhere. Now I have crippled video, but fixed, kinda.

it doesnt work. my black bars are to the left and right. and they dont get removed. I did all the steps.
What settings is your project set to?
How can i mirror the image?
Duplicate the track, click on bottom one, untick maintain aspect ratio and add blur effect
@@VerticDesigns Is this for mirroring the edges?
@@jonghyulic yeh

no problem and yeh aha
@@VerticDesigns cause of his i can make normal montages without blackbars XD
@@zkqir ayyee and I mean most of the time black bars makes montages look cinematic if it's top and bottom, it gives it that film look so most ppl actually add them in lol but it's all about preference

How to make the black bars red or any other color
Just add a solid red layer below your vid
@@VerticDesigns and how?
@@opal6664 in media generators there's a solid layers option where it's just plain colours you drag and drop a colour from there underneath your video track
@@VerticDesigns thx man 🙏

Brooo thanks you so fucking much
This does not help when you have clips with different aspects. There is no way to scale the smaller clip up to fill in the bars, while keeping the aspect. For some dumb reason it keeps bars in front of the clip. Instead, the bars always force a crop with aspect maintained. It would work if there was a way to scale the vertical and horizontal each separately (like it does in apps like After Effects or Fusion). It is ridiculous that there is no way to do this.
THANK YOU
thnx
Thanks bro. Now people can see my stretched res on csgo. No sarcasm
Np haha you uploaded it on your channel?

@@spacecs nice will check it out later

I want to remove the black bars and replace them with my video but none of the tutoirals i found worked
Footage Example: goo.gl/4QQYWU
I appreciate what you did there, you made it simple and clear with alternatives, other tutorial channels could learn from your teaching approach, thank you
It's better to have more options to choose from and thanks for the supportive feedback, this is what this channel was made for.. helping others achieve their goals
Finally, god dammit. Took so long to find a way to remove the black boxes without messing up the video.
I hope you read this because i have a problem with my project. I’m an editor who edit tv shows/movies and the episodes i have downloaded already had the black bars so with no surprise when i put those episodes in the timeline they come with the horizontal black bars. Your third method left me speechless at first so i went over on Sony Vegas to try this out and it worked but you see the problem is the following if you don’t use any zoom in/out this would be really useful for me but for my case i use an effect called S_BlurMoCurves for those specific transitions and when i apply your third method it doesn’t work very well because i want to remove the black bars and add a solid color to replace those. Now you may wonder what is the point to remove the black bars using your method to add new ones ? Well it’s because i want the black bars to remain still so they don’t take part of the zoom in/out transitions and your method is not quite the solution since we can still see the black bars taking part of the transitions. Maybe I’m doing it wrong who knows but I’m ready to give it another try later because i think i can work on another solution using your third method. If you have anything that could help me with my problem that would be great !!
theres nothing in that EAriaa-
But when I go to render it, it renders with the black bars! Help 😭
Check your project settings and render template, what quality are you using?
G-Legend me two I did the resample and the project video properties still didn’t work black bars up above and bottom
VerticDesigns please help
You can fix that by the way you render it. If you recorded in 720 720yiu vice versa in 1080. You get camera to tv playback ratio
I just have to like and subscribe. Thank you for help sir!
What do you recommend for an ultrawide screen? cannot seem to find one that matches my ratio
What resolution is your screen?
Thank you so much
Imnot even joking thank u so much
thanks
You're the best bro 😎
Thanks for this!
No problem
thx bro
thanks, this helps me
I try to follow this but not sure if same problem tried to change the from custom 1920x1080 GPS which was originally there to yours and some how it didn't fix my problem. I keep getting an red x when I try to edit. Can some please help?
What does the red x look like? normally when your preview is red is because the video is offline for example when you tab out of vegas pro it will go offline and you get a red preview screen but once you open vegas again it will be back online
iiiiiiiiii love u
really helped g
thanks bro
didnt help me, this isn't what i need. I was hoping you will answer about the vertial video because I ahve black bars around it afteer rendering
You can still remove the black bars but you'll lose the top and bottom bit of your video. In the pan/crop settings just set the video to "16:9 Widescreen TV Aspect Ratio"
thanks
2:02 AHHH just what I needed! Thank you
Ayye nice and you're welcome
Why do my black bars get smaller over time, i added them and they get smaller over time
It's because you need to be at the start of your video otherwise you start to create the multiple keyframes at different times and it will make the black bars move
Tyyyyy
thank you so much man !
No problem!

TYSM, LEGEND
No worries, hope your project went well
video was really helpful thanks
It works in sony vegas but when I render it, it still has black bars on the top and bottom. Any solutions?
method 1 will work if i get black bars only when video is rendering?
If you've turned off aspect radio like in the video then it will keep the video at whatever the video settings are e.g. 720p but sometimes while rendering the preview might go smaller but thats only while its rendering if that makes sense aha
thank you, it worked
@@11kimczi thats good then
2 method not working
Right click on your video and untick "maintain aspect ratio" then in the event/crop click the drop down menu and choose 16:9 and scale it to what you'd like
thx
No problem 👍
thanks bro! you help me so much
dont work for me ... wtf ..in 1080 p with the same settings
Then I'd say to just go into pan/crop and set your video to "16:9 Widescreen TV Aspect Ratio" in drop down menu and as long as all your project settings is set to 1920x1080 it will fix it
@@VerticDesigns okkei thanks, sorry but my english is not very good and therefore I don't understand some things, thanks anyway
@@johnnysilverhand23 oh right, if you wanted to I could and translate it
I can't comprehend how there is no way to REMOVE the black bars.
All of these "solutions" are hacks.
the thing is if the recording was recorded incorrectly then the bars appear because the editing software has to fit it in the correct size. Best way is to avoid it by recording in the right size for example 1280x720 = 720p or 1920x1080 = 1080p
@@VerticDesigns
You're right. You have to set the custom resolution.
It's just that some software allows you to do this with a visual tool, so that's where I got confused.
Thanks.

Nice video! I ran to this issue before and I randomly fixed it lol but don’t remember how I did it
ahh right haha
I sadly have a 1360x768 monitor, will that affect the quality of my video? :/
No worries you can set your screen resolution to 1280 x 720 it will be a little bit smaller but it will be the perfect size for a 720p video and the quality will be clear and sharp you wouldn't even need to adjust it
VerticDesigns Thank you :)
your videos are so useful! Please, keep going!
