Hi Randi. Good to see you back. Great reaction as always. 'Monsters' is magnificent. A true rock anthem. As you already know, no other voice in music like Courtney's. Not only are the vocals to 'Monsters' sensational, but as you noted, the lyrics are brilliant as well. A true testament to Courtney's prowess as a songwriter. She never writes fluff lyrics like many artists do. Anything, whether it makes sense or not, just to fit the music. The lyrics to Courtney's songs always have so much depth and meaning to them. She has said that the 'Monsters' in this song refers to the insecurities and self doubts that we all have. So, as you said, the meaning of the song is almost universally relatable. I liked the way you put it. Courtney took what could be a very heavy topic, but infused it with a level of optimism.
So, 'Little Steven' (Steven Van Zandt from Springsteen;s E-Sreet Band) has a Sirius Radio Podcast called the 'Underground Garage' with 1.2 M listeners in the US alone. Those listener's voted 'Monsters' the coolest song of 2023. Quite an achievement, and a sign that so many find this song incredibly great.
Since you haven't reacted for a while, looking at your Courtney reaction list, there are a couple of originals that Courtney released that you haven't reacted to as of yet. They are 'Call Me Back', which will break your heart every time you hear it and 'Christmas Rocks', a gritty, upbeat Christmas song that simply will not allow you to remain still when listening. Both are on Courtney's YT channel.
In case you haven't heard, there was recent big news in Courtney world. On April 29th, the New York Pops honored Clive Davis with a huge concert at Carnegie Hall. Everyone who is anyone in music was there. Courtney was invited to open the show. She blew off the roof and doors and brought the entire audience to their feet at Carnegie in a standing ovation to a rip roaring, stage dominating rendition of Janis Joplin's 'Piece of my Heart'. Janis was Clive's first signee. All I can say is take how magnificent Courtney is digitally and multiply it by ten, and that's what it's like hearing and seeing her live. It was mind boggling. The concert was recorded, so can't wait until Carnegie Hall decides to release it, so you can react to it. It may be a while for the video, but Courtney's performance was mind blowing.

Nice to see you back reacting to Courtney, Randi. She should have a spectacular album out this year. As usual, I see others have already updated information on Courtney.

Great reaction! I think you really get where Courtney's at with this song. Speaking of what she'll do next, she's in Minnesota, at her producer Kevin Bowe's studio, and they'll be finishing up her very long awaited first full album. If you haven't heard, they traveled there together from New York, where Courtney sang Piece of My Heart at Carnegie Hall to open a major show. Looking forward to your reactions to the album, and hopefully the New York Pops orchestra will release the video of her performance too.

Nice reaction, Randi! Yeah, I hear some of the cool, 70's, 80's 90's vibe to some of the music Courtney does, including Monsters. Part of it could be, she has that gritty, soulful, rock/blues voice that one doesn't hear too often. nowadays. The other part could be that the person writing songs with her, Kevin Bowe, has worked with some voices/groups from yesteryears like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Three Dog Night, Jonny Lang, Etta James, Joe Cocker, etc., so his writing/composing probably has some of that retro-flavor, fused with some of today's sounds.
Kevin & Courtney are currently working on completing their album, and we hope to have a few more songs for you, to which to react, in the coming months! Thanks again!

Agree Derek, about Kevin's heavy rock background influence, of at the very least, the music part of Courtney's rock originals . Not 100% sure if Kevin does all the guitar work for her, but he has mentioned when asked that it was him playing. He's got a very heavy punk vibe for me. Maybe late 70's before punk got too heavy and raunchy. Love it. 👍

@@bertpainter8385He mentioned on today’s live that he did all the bass on the songs being recorded for the album, except for one, where he wasn’t happy with his sound and he was arranging for someone else to do bass on that song.

Trust me when I say this, you are not missing anything by not listening to modern pop music radio stations.
I had to pay a bill in my local internet service shop in town, and while I was waiting to pay, they played three modern songs over the in shop speakers. I can not remember any of them. And this was instant. As soon as one song finished, I could not remember the tune, lyrics or message of the song, and that happened for each and every song. I know that there were three different songs, but, apart from that,... nothing else about them. I didn't even know who was singing them.

I browse through radio channels on long drives (my CD player is broke in both the car and van, boo) and the only ones I ever am decently happy with are classic rock and old country stations.. I don't even like country very much 😂😂 But I don't like the bits that I hear from other stations very often. I would love to see more stations aimed at 80s babies though, with music from 80s-90s of all genres.

@@BetterEveryDayRUclips This production-line development of modern music, and also other forms of entertainment, movies, TV, online...etc, is just making modern entertainment too dry, boring and predictable. That is why most of the main Hollywood studios seem to be struggling now, relying on the Superhero blockbusters, which are now failing to draw in the crowds.

I would love to see you react to Tommy Johansson's cover of a Steelheart song She's Gone. He , until recently, was a guitarist for Sabaton but left to follow his heart and it was on good terms. He fronts his own band for 20 years, called Majestica. He does cover videos on his RUclips channel. He is so talented, plays all the instruments and sings all the parts, testament to that is his cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Please!
