As someone who grew up in what is considered a third world country and has now been lucky enough to have the financial leverage to lived in a multitude of first world countries, I noticed there is a huge stark in how ppl viewed products like food, clothes, Accessories, etc. A Zara bag is luxurious to many ppl in third world country as many office worker in the cities only earned only 500-700 used per month, and that money would be to support their whole family . They tend to cherish those purchases more and it tends to have weights to them. This situation really personify that drastic difference between those grew up a well-off country or financial situation and those who don’t.
I hope C&K make her into ambassador model or something and gave her that opportunity when the time is right I’ll be so happy for her. she’s so spoken and calm and such a nice person. At this point I’ll just call daiso luxury just to pissed people of 🤭
I thought her reaction to getting the bag was very cute and innocent. And I consider the brand to be in the "Affordable Luxe" category. Not sure how the pricing is in SG, but in KL, it's quite expensive (most of them were around hundreds of Ringgit) if you're not in the (at least) middle-class category.
As someone who owned a lot of C&K bags , I can confirm that the quality is not good but it’s not bad either it suits the price and for me personally since I love fashion I often purchased bags so I don’t occasionally go for over the top luxurious brands. My point is C&K might not be luxurious Brand in some countries but it is in developed countries like mine so the hate cmts she got was nasty and unnecessary.
I love C&K,I remember during my secondary school times that the bags caught my eye & my mum bought it for me. I was elated to have it and didn't think whether it's luxurious or not because their bags can be beautiful (depending on the season). I'm still owning it until now for my special occasions since my C&K bag is still in good condition. When the items you love and keep in well used condition for a long time,it becomes a part of your (luxury) life & soul.
I’d say it’s equivalent to brands like juicy couture and coach which is still name brand but not top notch quality but then again luxury is becoming crappy quality too these days so maybe it’s better to buy the more affordable name brands instead of spending thousands on mediocre quality of really expensive luxury brands
The comments were so cruel and cowardly. Anonymity is a perfect outlet for juveniles (mentally, not just age) to lash out at an innocent/vulnerable target without repercussions. They usually find that it does't do much to fix their problems, even if other fools 'Like' the comment. It's pathetic.
@@lovelydiva06 The newer Coach bags, especially those with silly logos printed on fabric are indeed sub-par, but vintage are top notch, just as Dooney & Bourke. I still carry many 'oldies' which look nearly new. Just had a discussion about that very thing with another bag lover/collector. Even for today's couture/luxury brands, quality has declined and vintage is the way to go. 🧘♀️👍👜
I'm just so proud of this girl, she shows the world how grateful she is, she also taught people how to react on a situation like this rationally and with grace. This is the daughter that most parents want to have. I commend the parents for raising this kid well.
Ok, so I’m half Singaporean, brought up overseas. I work full time. I went back to Singapore recently, I even felt that wow, at these prices CK is like a luxury bag. Seriously felt for this girl. She handled the comments with class and that is something money can’t buy!
I’m still confused how c&k not a luxury brand? It’s expensive as hell in Malaysia, literally exclusive! Just because it’s not internationally luxury brand? I don’t dare entering the store until after i have salary.
Not sure how ashamed I should be to admit that I thought that C&K was luxurious enough to be considered a 'luxury' brand (although among all luxury brands, definitely a tier below other brands like LV, YSL, Prada), based on how their storefronts are designed. Maybe I'll get teased at for not having enough common sense or general knowledge
She really took this very well. I love that she stood up for herself and i hope this experience only makes her stronger🤍 I can tell that her parents brought her up well despite the difficulties that she had. That’s one luxury cressy obv didn’t have :))
My family as well, immigrated to the US from the Philippines… Oreo’s was even a luxury to me growing up. My mom would get those $1 generic brand cookies that looks like Oreos. Every time I see or eat Oreos, or anything we could never afford back then… I sit my ass down, smile, think of the great memories, think of my parent’s hard work raising me, and I stay Thankful and HUMBLE.
As much as my heart breaks for this young girl, I'd hate to imagine how the dad must feel if he read those comments. He must feel so worthless as a father who can't buy buy luxury things for his kid. I love the comment that no luxury brand comes close to this gift because it is from his father. I truly feel the same. In a platform where being sassy is applauded, people have forgotten how to be compassionate..
My late dad never bought us luxury goods. Heck forget even Nike - my late pops would get anything below 20 bucks made in China sports shoes. 🤣 To him, he already said that we should consider our food, and everything he bought us as a luxury. His idea of a bag for the teenager was a 10 dollar canvas bag made in China.
people on tiktok are chronically online and they keep canceling idols left and right, calling them pick mes and bullying minors. attacking this cute girl who did NO HARM to anyone but was expressing her joy? LIKE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD????
the term "luxury" doesn't have to be something expensive or of a famous brand. Luxury products, in my opinion, are products that we purchase using our discretionary income...so anything that we don't need to fulfill our basic needs are technically considered luxurious items
This girl's positivity is her greatest strength moving forward with her life... Never be afraid to show your tears bcoz brave people do cry co'z they have heart.
I have never heard of that brand. But after seeing this I checked out their website. Super cute. Their stuff looks great. Luxury means different things to different people. I would be proud to carry a bag from them
I didn’t own a C&K until I started working. People really need to keep comments to themselves. As the saying goes: “If got nothing good to say, don’t say”
So sorry she had to put up with so much nonsense. Some people with more money will always be snobs. I joined my school photo society. 95% of the members had professional cameras and fancy lenses. I had a simple amateur fixed-lens camera and people would sneer at me. But a cheap(er) camera meant I took more risks and carried it with me every day (unlike the snobs whose cameras came out only on special events) Back to the bag. Yes it is a lux bag. Because the giver and the recipient value it. What's the point of knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing?
Even if it's not a 'luxury' brand, it's still a designer purse. This girl broke my heart. I'm staring at my closet and feel like gathering more than bags and ship the box to her. She is precious and I am not, just ABSOLUTELY livid.
@@adoroselatte Yeah, and apparently some pics and explanation of the comments of this TikTok vid were added to the project! So we're using this as an example!
I’ve not seen the the young girl’s video, but she seems to be an amazingly kind person. Kudos to her for doing like Michelle Obama, and going high when the haters go low!
It doesn't matter if it's luxury or not regardless, that was a gift given to her by her father. It has sentimental value. Some idiots may see it as junk but to that girl that is gold is the thought that counts that's all that matters.
I can’t believe she got hate over a handbag from her dad. People who think handbags define them are very very sad. Listen, I know very wealthy people who don’t need money, brand names, or handbags to be appreciative and respectful. To put your opinion, where no one asked, is classless no matter how much money you have.
Yes, but then luxury is a perspective. For me, someone who is earning a decent amount of money, buying a 100-150 USD bag is really something special. Like maybe for my birthday or something. Thinking about the “luxury” brands, those are out of the question for 90% of the population, myself included. And also, these luxury brands like LV, Gucci, etc. are much more expensive in third world countries or for people who come from those regions. See, if you earn 3k-5k USD per month (average salary in US) you can buy 1k USD bag each year for your birthday but for many people 5k is their 4-5 months salary and they can’t buy themselves these bags because that’s just not in the picture. Hope you see it from our perspective. Because I have seen so many people, who are at the same job level as me but in the states or 1st world, buy luxury goods. But I have understood that they earn in dollars, 5-7000 USD per month, so for them buying 1200 dollar bag is a birthday gift but for someone like me who is earning barely 1000 USD per month (and I come from a middle class background) it’s just not it and it’s the same for so many middle class people living in countries like ours. And when you consider she said she had even more humble beginnings then it makes perfect sense why C&K is a luxury brand.
as someone who isn't privileged nor poor but somewhere in the middle, 80 dollars for a bag is already luxury to me. people hating on her know nothing outside daddy's money. if she were to call it affordable, the same uglies who made of her would say she's spoiled.
Such a lovely young lady, my first luxury handbag was Kathy van zeland. I too come from Humble beginnings and that is truly the way to live. How you start in life isn’t how you will finish. Cherish that gift that your father gave you 😊
This is a very clean, well executed commentary with only facts and documented receipts. Keep it up and we appreciate you speaking up for and on behalf of those who have the same humble situation in life. ❤
That is the kind of maturity of a young lady who has been through a lot. As the daughter of an immigrant who now has full citizenship I can assure you things can be more complicated than what it's written in the laws and regulations so that anonymous account was just ridiculous.
I've never understood spending money on something to flex, or flexing based on how much a gift costs. I spend money on incredibly stupid things that will impress nobody but that make me happy.
A lot of us came from humble beginnings, but we know what a luxury brand is. It's a fact, not a preference. There's things called high street and premium brands, but luxury is another category. Hopefully that's the case with some of the comments made.
I bought the tote bag from C&K and being in California as a working girl-boss, everyone loved it at work. They were so shocked to see it so affordable as well. It's a great tote bag. Im able to put my iPad Air 4 and my work laptop in it as well. Good stuff!
I can relate to this. I remember when I had my first car in dec 2020, a Toyota Vios 2021. I went to this gathering with my friends who also have their cars, which are a Honda Civic, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Nissan Terra and one of the passengers of my friend using the Ford Everest mockingly said that I should not have used my car because it is not as grand as what my other friends used. I just said to him with a serious face, at least I have a car and I know how to drive unlike you who is just a passenger... I said it way cooler in our native language tho. But lesson on this, everybody will say something negative to you, it will hurt you, it did hurt me for a bit but you just got to move on. Always dream big and do what you love. PEACE!
i do feel as if singapore has a elitist/classist problem. not everyone is, but many share that mindset that we should talk about, especially the girl being filipino and the intersectionality and poverty that’s associated with being filipino.
I can say that I have a pretty good paying job but buying a C&K bag would still feel like a luxury for me since buying bags is not a priority. Sometimes I feel like social media platforms should have an IQ and EQ exam before you are allowed to create an account 😂
Many do not know that C&K is actually under LVMH - Why would LVMH invest in a brand if they do not see the value and potential in it? To many of us (well at least me), C&K is considered as entry-luxury as I won’t spend $80 (RM300) on a bag everyday 🥲 I have to think at least a hundred times before spending them money, not to mention C&K owns better designs than a lot of luxury brands. People just need to be happy for others and shut up if they have nothing good to say.
Tbh, I do not see anything wrong with Cressy or others comments. They aren't even hating, they were just stating the FACT that C&K is never considered luxury brand in terms of anything. They were just correcting her instead of hating.
I think luxury as an adjective instead of an industry-defined standard makes it a more subjective term - for most people who may have only purchased bags from local small stores or road side stalls, a Charles and Keith WILL be luxury, both in terms of cost and in terms of look - as well as branding itself! I think the bigger point was how they went about 'educating' the girl - why not be positive and maybe say something like "Congratulations on your beginner luxury product! Best wishes to grow more successful and even buy Chanels and Guccis".. I mean, at the end of the day, what is the need for the condescension and superiority complex in "who's gonna tell her"
@@sindhusanthanakrishnan5465 Their point is to educate her just so that she's not ignorant about these brands. Yes, it may not matter to most of you on the tiers of designer bags but I wouldn't want to be that person that says C&K is more luxurious than Hermes.
It looks like a nice bag, most important is that it's a gift and she loves it. I can remember my first "luxury" bag purchase when I got my first real job- it was a Dooney and Bourke bag that cost about $150- an unimaginable amount to spend on a purse at that point in my life. I didn't even know what the dust bag was for(I ended up throwing it away....oh, well)! I have bags that cost ten times that now, and bags that cost a tenth of that- I love them all for different reasons. The internet just loves to shit on people, especially young girls who have the nerve to enjoy things.
$80 is roughly 5,000 philippine peso. I have not bought any bag of that price. I buy up to $20 and i use the shit out of that bag not to display in some glass box. Anything can be luxury depends on how you value your money. It does speak volumes.
That breadtalk things is kinda hit close to home. When i was in college i could only afford one bread from that store and i only bought it when i celebrate something. Damn.
Every single one of us,have different definition of luxury, for me luxury is feeling, towards particular things,we have, the satisfaction and happiness from within.
I see comments how the bag quality is not good and all. But I believe it's really how you use and take care of them. Even you buy an very expensive item but abuse it, they won't last long.
As a fashion Designer 80$ is indeed a luxury item the brand just didn't want to over-over priced it but usually custom and cotour pieces will start at 60$
Is not a luxury to everyone but for her it's first luxury gift from his dad that she have .. and it's my say .. Hopefully I recieve one to someone I love .. big amount not mean Tobe a luxury it's brand from some one you love .. I support you girl
From Ireland - my first luxury bag was River Island. I am so happy to be able to easily be able to afford that now. A lot of others can’t afford anything right now. I can understand that people who’ve never had to think about money don’t get what it’s like not being able to afford something. In England they’ve a show called Rich kids go skint that sends privileged people to a family on the breadline and it’s very interesting to see their views change. All rich kids, all politicians etc should all have to experience poverty to gain compassion towards others.
I shared with a coworker that it helps me release stress if I take a long bubble bath with bath salts and lavender oil after work. She commented how luxurious that sounded. This coworker owns a Gucci purse that cost her thousands of dollars meanwhile the cost of my luxurious bath is just a couple of cents. Luxury is not just a price tag.
5:33 The min salary is needed if her parents are S or Employment pass holders, & the higher the salary, the longer they'd be allowed to reside in Singapore I think, making it more likely that they'd've brought other family members (including Zoe) along too to SG. However even if Zoe's parents didn't earn that much & thus couldn't have resided for so long in SG, Zoe herself could've entered Singapore on a student visa & been allowed to reside longer in SG than her parents (who might, say, return to their hometowns from time to time even when Zoe didn't). I speak frm the experiences I've seen among my classmates, some whom weren't (originally) citizens but later applied for PR/citizenship after having attended school here for many years, to stay in SG in the longer term (one of my classmate's mother was a Work Permit holder I think as her university in her home country isn't so highly recognized here, but she was skilled enough to be a tuition teacher)
the term "luxury" has multiple meanings and one of them is : indulgence rather than a necessity So we can consider an $80 Charles & Keith bag a "luxury" item 🤪
I grew up poor in Malaysia. Some days my older siblings didn't eat or are v little in order for the younger ones (including me) to have more. I remember wanting to buy a football when I was young, and my parents said no, even though it was just RM5. I feel bad for this girl going thru this. Hope she gets out on the other end safely.
in a poor country, an 80$ bag is consider luxury... rich world privilege... when i first purchase a 200$+ bag, i thought that is consider luxury cause is an luxury experience for me
C&K should hire her as the brand ambassador to target younger customerrs. Luxury means differently to any age and financial status. When I was a teenager Banana Republic and Gap and even Mcdonald's were considered luxurious too.
People have so many time on their hands. They should have left the girl alone. When, I saw the tiktok, it only had 5 comments then. I thought it will have touching comments coz the bag was a gift by her dad (like you know trigger those with dad issues). I hope C&K make her into ambassador model or something and gave her that opportunity when the time is right I’ll be so happy for her. she’s so spoken and calm and such a nice person. At this point I’ll just call daiso luxury just to pissed people of 🤭
Someone hire this man at C&K for great marketing ideas
To me Daiso IS a luxury. Only once I got to buy stuff in that store that amounted to 10 items, and no more.
She was invited to lunch!
@@estelleshing8608 Someone hire Estelle at Charles Keith for hers excellent HR vision.
They (C&K) already met with Zoe.
@@adoroselatte Perfectly said!
Exactly! It is luxury! See the store? It's a boutique man...
Quality sucks. Does not last.
Not looking down on C&K but at most I would consider it a High Street brand
Rm200 is not expensive tho?
She really took this very well. I love that she stood up for herself and i hope this experience only makes her stronger🤍
I can tell that her parents brought her up well despite the difficulties that she had. That’s one luxury cressy obv didn’t have :))
The fact that he was still pissed off at cressy at the end is hilarious hahaha
Thanks for covering this!!
the term "luxury" doesn't have to be something expensive or of a famous brand.
I would be proud to carry a bag from them
Petition to get cressy to post a video of his/her clothes and accessories so we can give her the same condescending criticism that she dishes out
Exactly Cressy we need an unboxing video. Quickly now!
I didn’t own a C&K until I started working. People really need to keep comments to themselves. As the saying goes: “If got nothing good to say, don’t say”
Luxury is in the eye of beholder. If you love something and it makes you feel great, it’s luxury.
CnK bags still better quality than SOME luxury bags
Fact

So sorry she had to put up with so much nonsense.
Some people with more money will always be snobs. I joined my school photo society. 95% of the members had professional cameras and fancy lenses. I had a simple amateur fixed-lens camera and people would sneer at me. But a cheap(er) camera meant I took more risks and carried it with me every day (unlike the snobs whose cameras came out only on special events)
Back to the bag.

I love that the internet is going crazy over a damn bag!!!
"Ok ministry of man power" 😂
it's nice to see people came to support her!
Honestly I was so ready for that story to have a bad ending because it's the internet and we can't have anything nice here
The truth is, comparing it with everything else C&K is not luxury but doesn’t mean people have to be mean
I too come from
Humble beginnings and that is truly the way to live.
Tiktokers: u PoOr Ck NoT lUxUry

I've never understood spending money on something to flex, or flexing based on how much a gift costs. I spend money on incredibly stupid things that will impress nobody but that make me happy.
A lot of us came from humble beginnings, but we know what a luxury brand is. It's a fact, not a preference. There's things called high street and premium brands, but luxury is another category. Hopefully that's the case with some of the comments made.
I think most people have that intention… there’s a difference between something being a luxury and a luxury brand 😅
PEACE!
At 17, Nike was luxury for me
I grew up under the motto (if you don't need it to survive, it's considered luxury) and i stand by it.
i do feel as if singapore has a elitist/classist problem. not everyone is, but many share that mindset that we should talk about, especially the girl being filipino and the intersectionality and poverty that’s associated with being filipino.
Its quite a pretty bag..regardless of the price and regardless if people think its expensive or not..she love the bag
I can say that I have a pretty good paying job but buying a C&K bag would still feel like a luxury for me since buying bags is not a priority. Sometimes I feel like social media platforms should have an IQ and EQ exam before you are allowed to create an account 😂
W Yeolo for sharing this and w women
Before internet, that story would just stay between 3 people.
Her dad must love her very much. Lucky girl!
Owo its considered luxury because $80 for bag is actually on the higher side of prices.
Damn.
child please, anything above $10 is expensive, at this economy too?
Every single one of us,have different definition of luxury, for me luxury is feeling, towards particular things,we have, the satisfaction and happiness from within.
Whether the bread company will do something for her💀😂
A 80 dollar bag esp for a 17 year old is a luxury no matter the brand.
and now shes modelling for them, you go girl ❤️🩹
I see comments how the bag quality is not good and all. But I believe it's really how you use and take care of them. Even you buy an very expensive item but abuse it, they won't last long.
As a fashion Designer 80$ is indeed a luxury item the brand just didn't want to over-over priced it but usually custom and cotour pieces will start at 60$
Is not a luxury to everyone but for her it's first luxury gift from his dad that she have .. and it's my say ..
Hopefully I recieve one to someone I love .. big amount not mean Tobe a luxury it's brand from some one you love .. I support you girl
Her father buy her something something expensive and something she loves... at 17, my father didn't even pay my tuition ok
We were so dang poor that buying something from a fast food restaurant was considered a luxury.
It depends how the term is used. Luxury as an adjective, or Luxury as a noun.
There's luxury and there's high end luxury.
I speak frm the experiences I've seen among my classmates, some whom weren't (originally) citizens but later applied for PR/citizenship after having attended school here for many years, to stay in SG in the longer term (one of my classmate's mother was a Work Permit holder I think as her university in her home country isn't so highly recognized here, but she was skilled enough to be a tuition teacher)
the way my canvas tote bag carrying ass has that same c&k bag and that its the fanciest looking bag i own too...
All of that over a bag… that shit’s crazy
the term "luxury" has multiple meanings and one of them is : indulgence rather than a necessity
So we can consider an $80 Charles & Keith bag a "luxury" item 🤪
I'm glad C&K supported her. Things like these happen more but not everyone ends getting supported by the companies people buy from.
What a beautiful girl, this world is a disgrace. I hope she stays strong. 👍
Howe entitled are people honestly? We are such a materialistic society. Happy for her being happy with her purchase
I enjoyed this video :) thank you!
I can’t believe they were trying to bully a child smh
The snobbishness of the people leaving negative comments are renching
in a poor country, an 80$ bag is consider luxury... rich world privilege... when i first purchase a 200$+ bag, i thought that is consider luxury cause is an luxury experience for me
People are so so mean, my gosh......
The bag is beautiful, and they should leave her alone dam
C&K should hire her as the brand ambassador to target younger customerrs. Luxury means differently to any age and financial status. When I was a teenager Banana Republic and Gap and even Mcdonald's were considered luxurious too.
A Bag is just A Bag. The Different is weather it looks Nice and Fits your or not.
Anymore then 50$ is luxury to me for a damn bag
People have so many time on their hands. They should have left the girl alone. When, I saw the tiktok, it only had 5 comments then. I thought it will have touching comments coz the bag was a gift by her dad (like you know trigger those with dad issues). But no, that mean comment, "who should tell her?" was already there early 🤦🏻♀️
