Interesting that Yogananda says to honor and develop your personality, your individuality, and yet Ramana Maharshi says that the personality must die… Seems a lot of Masters contradict each other…

This is a profound observation, and it reflects one of the fascinating dynamics of spiritual teachings. Yogananda and Ramana Maharshi appear to have different approaches, but they may be addressing different stages or aspects of spiritual growth. These teachings may seem contradictory, but they often complement each other. Yogananda might say that until a person can abandon the ego completely, cultivating a personality (soul qualities) aligned with divine values brings them closer to their spiritual essence. Ramana, on the other hand, guides seekers directly to a state of consciousness where all concepts of self disappear. So in a sense, each teaching can speak to different seekers based on where they are in their journey.

Right… Seems to me that all just is, and the mind creates concepts and projects then on to it. All being true and untrue at the same time. Ramana speaks of the seed from which all manifestation sprouts, while Yogananda speaks of the branches, leaves, and flowers etc. All different aspects of the one reality. I guess ultimately the seed is the aspect that all else relies on, so could be said that it is the only thing that is real… but it could also be said, that it is all real because it is all one thing. In any event I like Yogananda’s approach. Bhakti/Devotion after realization is a paradox. Though without it realization is a loveless and empty like void of pure awareness. No suffering, but no joy either

@@whatisthis-y8w Yes, behind everything that exists the only reality is God. God covered creation with the veil of maya (illusion). Our mission, so to speak, is to remove the veil that hides God/Self.
