@@jasmineg9738 While that’s somewhat true, it’s also unfair to the students that have to be in a class with a teacher like this. The teacher’s mood always sets the classes tone
I had a philosophy/history prof who had the messiest, most disorganized desk, which (literally) spilled onto the floor around it. He was a bit eccentric, but very intelligent, very good at teaching and explaining difficult concepts, and genuinely cared about his students and their success, as well as the quality of education the university provided students so that they were getting their dollars’ worth. I’ve also had professors with meticulously organized desks and offices who didn’t give a rat’s ass about their students who were struggling, but genuinely trying to succeed. You can’t judge someone by the state of their desk.
Wow! Criticizing course content or difficulty and also the Professors approachability and teaching methods is important and relevant. Comments on how Professors (or anyone, for that matter) look, dress, and sound like, are gratuitously hurtful and irrelevant. That, as a student, I am asked to and encouraged to give feedback via the course evaluation, I feel it is a privilege, just as access to education is a privilege. Life is constant change and continuous improvement is key. I am going to fill in the CE now ;)
01:08 - 01:20 To be precise, the critic should've learnt english as well, prior criticizing the Asian Prof 'cause no one in his right mind would ever write *benefecal* as a typo of *beneficial*
2:43 If the person would have attended 1.2 lectures, there would have been a guest speaker 83.3% of the time. The person would have actually had to attend 1.25 lectures for there to be a guest speaker 80% of the time.
Wow I need yo transfer. If these are the worst comments then the college must be great. Students at my college are savage and these comments don't even touch them
The professor with the messy desk really had unfair reviews. I'm undecided about the anonymity of comments, because one one hand it offers people to be unleashed in their comments, but other hands it offers the troll factor of people saying harsher things for alleged comedic effect.
You don't know what someone is going through, there are really great professors and teachers out there who really care about their students!!!!! You are in college to be treated as adults, not children ........
Does anyone know Dr Li Xi who can tell me if his English is really not that good or is it just an exaggeration of the people who wrote the evaluation? 🤔
It is easy to say what ever you want when you will have no consequences for what you say given that your comment is anonymous. I dare those same students to say what they wrote to those teachers to their faces instead to see if they are so brave. You can be mad at a situation, but making the other person feel like crap so that you can feel better is not the answer. Respect is out of the window here!
Swartz was cool Jones was cool Woods was very cool Cranston was awesome Adams was tough but fair - also a cool dude Latulippe was alright Todd Hoare was meh ok I guess - seemed nice outside class but when it came to marking disputes you feel like he held grudges Li Xi seemed like a nice person but he was extremely unfair and his teaching style was awful ... strict marker never gave second chances and kind of unreasonable at times
God.. that's so fucking rude. No wonder that one prof seems unhappy with her career if her students are rude as fuck, the other one is "oh so rude" and WTF is wrong with people insulting the one prof's language skills just because he has an accent? I'd never say anything like that about any of my profs - regardless of whether I failed the course or thought the topic was boring or even if I didn't like them... I'm really kind of shocked.
Are you crazy? Everyone has an accent but a teacher with horrible language skills would be impossible to understand and negatively effect student's outcome. That is 90% of their jobs. If your accent is that different from the standard accents of your student then you should put up your lectures online so students could slowly parse through your words like some hieroglyphs. Otherwise accept the very valid criticisim.
That Chinese professor does speak very poor and bad English. I would drop him because I would not tolerate that and that would annoy me. You need to speak the language well of whatever nation you are in. Aside from his teaching style and him as a person, those are two different and separate issues from the fact that he can barely speak English. All three cannot be judged as one, and his poor ability to speak English does not judge his teaching style and his personality.
Diego Marcelo No but judging from this video I thought he could express himself well in English. It was just said with a very strong accent which makes it difficult for the listener to decipher his words.
I think that a lot of students conflate thick accents with an inability to speak the language. I understand him bug like how many people would say that about someone who speaks a different dialect of English for example the American South v. New England. Just racist. He knows English and knows how to communicate. They just don’t want a Chinese professor to sound foreign
I feel bad for the Professor with the messy desk. Even her blinds are closed. It all looks depressing.
I feel like the comment had some truth which makes it even more irritating like kicking people while they are down.

Not to me. Some people find order in mess. I do.

tbf a professor method of speaking and his proficiency in the given language can really impact the quality of teaching.

Requesting a professor that speaks English, when you yourself cannot even speak it. “Benefecal.”

1.25 lectures*
I see that their hearts are crying. Cheer up!
Really hate the REM in the background for every single one of these.
Blame Jimmy Kimmel I guess
is there any Teaching Evaluations for McMaster professors of CS and SE ?
The Asian Professor seemed like the only one with a sense of humor. Everyone else needed that.
Well some of these seemed unnecessary

Students are mean mofos! The only way to make students' evaluations civilized is to make them non-anonymous.
