"Breakout" is a popular song by the British band Swing Out Sister. "Breakout" was released as a single in 1986 and later included on their debut album, "It's Better to Travel," in 1987. The song became a significant hit, reaching number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
Swing Out Sister was formed by Andy Connell (keyboardist), Martin Jackson (drummer), and Corinne Drewery (vocalist). "Breakout" is characterized by its upbeat, jazzy pop sound, blending elements of sophisti-pop and new wave. The song is known for its catchy melody, bright brass section, and Drewery's distinctive vocals. The lyrics of "Breakout" convey a message of empowerment and optimism, encouraging listeners to break free from limitations and seize opportunities.
80s pop!
The Brits owned the airways in the 80s when it came to pop tunes.
Haircut 100, ABC, Everything But The Girl, Heaven 17, Bananarama, Human League, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Duran Duran, Yazz, New Order, Dead or Alive, Eurythmics, Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, UB40, Bronski Beat, Blancmange, Erasure, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Thompson Twins, Wham, Depeche Mode .. ... ....
What I call good quality pop music. Their single Surrender was great too.
Yes they did and I listened to every one of the Artists you named.
Loved Swing Out Sister back in the day, Corrine Drewery was my crush at the time, nobody could rock the Bob haircut like she did, my favourite track from them is Somewhere In The World, it's a laid back Blue Eyed Soul sound and has a great video 🇬🇧
87 was a great year. I definitely remember this song. A good feel song.
The singer was working in fashion design and after a serious horseriding accident decided to Break Out, formed a band and made this song 🎉😊❤
I think of this song as the 80s female version of The Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive. Open the door go out and strut your stuff, ladies.
I love this song. Makes me think of summer in the 80s.
Haven't heard this song in years😮 thanks Gentlemen
This is on my playlist and I listen to it at least once a week. When I was in college, I interned at a radio station in San Francisco when this album came out. I met the band when they were in town touring and promoting the album. They were very nice and Corinne was very tall! 😃
Written by Swing Out Sister. Corinne Drewery fell off of a horse 🐎 in a riding accident. She wrote the lyrics while she was in rehab.
She and the other members like 👍 it. But, their record label hated it! 🙄 But, the band pushed on.
They performed in Indonesia 🇮🇩 a few years ago. They still sounded good 👍. CB did not lose much range! 🤯 They were scheduled to play in The Philippines 🇵🇭, but canceled due to Charlie 19.
Easy on the eye, Corrine.
This group is fabulous. They have another amazing hit called "Twilight World", and they have continued to release music in Europe after having a few hit albums here in the U.S. They are a great combo of jazz, pop and R&B.
I loooooove Swing Out Sister!!!!
I love the joy that listening to all this great music gives Corey.
The way it's structured is so wild, it's like it just keeps building up and up. I don't quite have the musical vocabulary to say what they're doing, but I think it's key changes ? Also the singer is STUNNING
Another good song by them is "Am I the Same Girl" A cover of the song by Barbara Macklin, and there was an instrumental but called "Soulful Strut"
Maybe a typo but it was Barbara Acklin. Soulful Strut by Young Holt Unlimited was the original.
1986 the year i started loving english songs so much and following the charts.
i remember hearing this song when it came out and it was and still fantastic.
swing out sister has very good songs like twilight world, you on my mind, fooled by a smile and surrender.
the week it entered the top 20 songs in the charts in november2nd 1986 these are some of the song that were in the top 20 the same week:
through the barricades (spandau ballet).
true colors (cyndi lauper.)
you keep me hanging on (kim wilde).
showing out (mel and kim).
suburbia (pet shop boys).
don't give up (peter gabriel and kate bush)
living on a prayer (bon jovi).
ask (the smiths).
you can call me al (paul simon).
true blue (madonna).
don't get me wrong (the pretenders).
midas touch (midnight star).
notorious (duran duran).
all i ask of you (cliff richard and sarah brightman) from the phantom of the opera.
take my breathe away (berlin) from top gum.
walk like an egyptian (the bangles).
you're in the army now (status quo).
can you feel the amount of competition ?
many great songs.
this is why the 80's were seriously the best.
❤ Swing Out Sister!
another example of how a video can get in the way of the sounds... some bands were let down by their video directors... this song and their album brought a different vibe to the scene... so many of the British bands were fearless -- thanks for finding them and this tune
I really don't like music videos. I wish reactors would only listen to studio versions of songs, and with no video whatsoever. Use their ears, not their eyes.
Swing Out Sister is fire! Their version of La La Means I love You, is nice. My son turned me on to them.
A pure hearted song. I fell in love with this one day as a kid seeing the video. Also like Twilight World by them. Good jazzy band
Check out: Am I The Same Girl and La La means I love you. Both covers by swing out sister.
Corny or not, this was just one of those songs that was "right" for the times
It was a huge blowback in 1987 to the TV shows that featured Sonny & Cher and the like.
corny but made it to no.6 worst corny songs that also charted high quit listening to it mister !
Not corny in the least! It was a banger in its day!
Why is it corny? It’s just fun pop, better than the miserable stuff lots of kids listen to.
@@JoeCruz-hs2ytAgain why is it corny, it’s feel good pop, not miserable rap etc music.
I'm glad to see someone finally reacting to this. The whole album is very good. Her voice is fabulous.
It was uplifting as heck, especially at the end. Positive vibes.
Loved the song & bought the album.
Great song for dancing to.
This group created amazing music over the decade. Check out more of their songs and you will hear the maturing of their music. Just fantastic! Listen to their songs Precious Words, Where In The World, Waiting Game, You On My Mind, and Twilight World. Many more but this will give you a deeper sample of what they produced.
I like the bridge in the song where it goes, "Some people stop at nothing..."
I've loved this song from the very first time I heard it!
This song is one fine piece of 80's SophistiPop!
Corinne classy coool and gorgeous ❤
This is amazing!! when you guys did Level 42, Swingout Sister crossed my mind as the next act you guys should do...I kid you not!
There is a live version of this song at a Prince’s Trust concert where Mark King of Level 42 is playing the bass…
This is definitely one of my go-to feel-good songs. It was on their debut album “It’s Better to Travel”, which is sensational - every song is a gem. I definitely recommend it. Standout tracks are “Twilight World”, “Surrender”, and “Fooled By a Smile”.
Solid 80s tune
Jazzfunk has always been huge in the UK
Such a groove! This was on repeat on my playlist back in the day. Love the horns and the vocals are on point. Some great moves from Corey too - you were feeling it big time! Suggestions: DOWN TO EARTH by CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT also from 1987 is something worth checking out. Or their other tracks MISFIT and ORDINARY DAY. Best described as another British Jazzy, Soul, Funk pop group!
This is the official coming out song.
Automatic Subscription. This group is awesome...
I still play my 45 and I still have the Album. I love them😊
Regarding Swing Out Sister, given your attention to musical technicalities, listen to their song: Happier than sunshine. It starts off in 4/4 and switches to 6/8. Follow the bass line. It's an amazing song.
Put you to sleep? The
instrumentals were smokjn' in this sing.
Another good hit song from the group is Somewhere in the world.
Good song. I never knew the name of the band. I love the fun feel of the video. She was fun...and sexy without being nearly naked! OLLIE, sometimes less is more 😊
I'm seriously getting a flashback watching this video 😊
Loved this song.
Not my idea of “timeless”, but this came out the year my first son was born and it was fun in its day when it popped up on the radio. Don’t forget that PART of “pop” is variety. You can’t keep playing the same 20 genius songs. This is a snapshot in time and it is instructive even if it doesn’t make your playlist.
Super Band....❤...
.great cool sound
The marching band at Buckingham Palace in London, played this song instrumental, it was great!! 🎤🎶🎺💜
wonderful song, madly in love with Corrine back then, and still am, they are still making great music.
Next crazy poppy song is "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.
Agreed with Ollie about her singing.
Love this song ❤😊🎉
I played this album out!!❤❤
Check out "Am I the Same Girl" you probably remember that one more.
it is so funny watching Corey get excited about music and Ollie has no reaction, LOL.
Nice song and sexy lead singer.
Please try Chris Rea - On The Beach. You won’t regret!
Damn i feel old AF now...lol. nice 1 IZ 🏴☠️☘️
I don't remember this and I was in the club a lot during these years. She reminds me of Basia or Gloria Estefan.
Basia is a very good comparison!
Brit sophisticated pop at its best
Great band, great voice. Check out their song, “ not gonna change “, remixed by the one and only Frankie Knuckles 😘❤️😉🇬🇧
' Transmission Vamp 'is another British band you guys will have to check out ,song Baby I don't care .
Theres a color version of the video which I think fits the song a little bit more.
You guys most def need to check out Lisa Stansfield, who btw had the same haircut as this singer.
Gotcha covered: www.youtube.com/@thisisitreactions/search?query=stansfield
@@thisisitreactions thank you my Dudes!
Never cared for the song but the reaction was AWESOME🤣😁🤟🏼♥️
check out some Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood (Sight And Sound In Concert: Jethro Tull Live, 19th Feb, 1977)
or perhaps - Jethro Tull - My God (Nothing Is Easy - Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970)
First! Wow! Peak 80s, love 87/88 era, also if reacting to this, react to Breakfast Club, Right on Track!
Thank you so much for reminding me of this gem! This is very dated and I see Babyboy was not impressed. I don't blaqme him, you had to be there!
brilliant - try their other tunes on this album especially twilight world
The monotone was the point.
MEANT TO SAY 4:22 MINUTES TURQUOISE GREEN BACKGROUND W/ SWING OUT SISTER PRETTY FACE ON THUMBNAIL CHECK OUT 🔥 TOO ITS 🔥
Corey, spot on in your reaction and more importantly in your analysis. Same to to you Fenom. Olli, you just need a a readjustment, kinda lame that you couldn't even come up a more specific reason for the vibe not reaching you. Maybe your not into lower registers for women, but Corinne has a beautiful range IMO.
This is a good song but their best is *"TWILIGHT WORLD'* in my humble opinion, hope you check it out
Did not like it then, do not like it now. But hey thats life🙂
OllieWoo looks bored with most of you guys reactions, I think he just waiting for some hip hop and rap !! He's narrowed minded.... Corey and Fenom you guys are doing a great job, wish the reaction channel was just the two of you !!
Feel like he goes into them already decided to hate it lol
And he holds his farts in too.
Vocal acrobatics were not a thing back then - that one-up-manship didn't start until the 2000's.
This has been one of my all-time fave songs since it came out. There's a great live version of it from 1989:
ruclips.net/video/_C4OXrE6De4/видео.html
Also, the original video was in color & looked even better, not like this "official" monochrome version:
ruclips.net/video/a75FC9vBkmc/видео.html
SWING OUT SISTER - " Am I The Same Glrl " ( Official Music Video) Remastered .. Hi You Guys here is another on of their Mega Radio 📻 hits songs Make Sure to TYPE ( Official Music Video ) Remastered Full 4:30 plus minutes in order to get the Full version accept No Imitations what i mean is 3: 30 min is not original it cuts off early
LOL, I gotta be with Olli on this. I like the song, but it don't set me on fire. It's cool, in a party, it can most def go on the play list, but it won't be at the top. Now Corey may cut a rug to it, and that's cool too, but I prolly won't. Fenom be over in the corner, bopping his head, while he tries to get some insider trading info.
lol
I get what he's saying about the singing being monotone, but you kind of have to take the song as a whole. While she's kind of sitting in the same groove the whole song, the horns and the other instruments are changing and carrying a lot of the melody, and the key changes make everything so dramatic and big. It's like the song is changing constantly the whole time it's playing
Corey Roy: “I got this joint so wantcha’ all to check out”
Fenom: “Probably heard it, but never seent the video”
Olliwood: “Man, why y’all wake me up so early for this corny-assed White shit?”
Olli does not look well.
Olli with his bored face is tiresome, he looks like that in a few reactions. What is it with younger people that as soon as they sit still they have to start swigging on a drinK?. Not enough time before or after the reaction, just have to have it there and then?
Young guy doesn't know good music when it's right in front of his face. I guess it needs some droning, mind-numbing beat to appeal to him. Sad.
The gayest song you guys have ever done.
It's just a happy, feelgood song
Swing Out Sister seems like a synth pop group if you only know this song but they are a great live band that excels in the 60s-70s bacharack/Webb/Barry classic pop. Their second album is a straight up masterpiece.
Check out "Butterfly" from Swing Out Sister. Really good song IMO
Thanks Corey & Fenom for a great review. Perhaps your colleague might consider going back to sleep. Please review Heartache Avenue by The Maisonettes. Another banging tune.
I always ask the question whenever I see people react to this version: "why did you react to the black and white version?". There is one in color. That's the one I first watched back in the 80's. 😎
@@私に私 deleted from where? You can find two color versions on RUclips
Love your reactions 😄 if you like the 80s, Mike and the mechanics, the living years is definitely has a message worth a listen, thanks guys ✌️
This is one of those songs that you hear at the grocery store all the time but you have no idea who the band is.
