Thank you for explaining how the SF6 experience can be affected by other things besides just the PS5 itself. Even with PC, tournaments need to standardize on settings to have a consistent good experience for players.
The difference between PC and PS5 is very little because its more easy to design it to be for fighting games and most of the pros these days are more than used to the feeling of the game being played on PS5 even if it does take a little adjustment. I'm also glad they actually acknowledge the truth of the set up problems instead of just riding a console hate train.
@@aledantih6524there is no world where console is the optimal standardized version of a setup for this game. It might have to be that way for money reasons but it’s definitely never the optimal choice. When shit starts melting you gotta make a change 😂
@@realest_JoJo I never heard of the melting shit happening again after that one tournament, seemed like a one off because of the way the heat was distributed. Consoles might not be the most optimal it can get but they're definitely optimal enough for competitive play and until these venues are getting League or Overwatch money, they're the most optimal on the TOs side too

I actually love Brian's idea about a little extra damage from perfect timing on combos. A lot of good game design is giving players enough rope to hang themselves. Do you risk dropping the combo for a little extra damage? The important thing is that your opponent would get some kind of feedback when you do the swag version (different fx or a little flash or whatever) so they know you're styling on them.
Brian you gotta remember that there's people who bought all 4 ninja turtle costumes, that's $60! They literally paid the base game's price for 4 skins for your lobby avatar!
All the working adult stuff Brian brings up are so relatable it’s great. Dodging MOBAs and balatro to prioritize work life (but mostly work) balance, talking about general responsible human stuff to all the giga-pro full-time gamer guests etc
Correction regarding HDMI. You can get VRR with HDMI 2.0. I know. I have HDMI 2.0 and I’m able to get 120 hz on SF6 HDMi 2.1 is required for 4k at 120 hz.
I'm with iDom, I think an extra control scheme like "Classic+" or "Classic Hardcore" would be hype. I doubt many players would use it, and I sure as hell wouldn't feel pressured to use it if my combo consistency plummets to hell, but it gives the execution Gods something to work with. It's yet another avenue to get a leg up and express yourself through different options. I think it'd be nice.
Appreciate Brian actually calling out constant complaining about PS5 with actual arguments. 99% of the times it's the screen and the settings. I play mainly on (high end) PC but I have the game on PS5 as well and there is no difference if the Vsync is turned off (aka improved responsiveness or whatever it's called is turned on) and the TV is in game mode (obviously ideally it's played on a proper monitor).
There is still a difference between fully optimized pc and fully optimized ps5 setup. It's just the dramatic difference occur when other bottlenecks come into play. Pc with high refresh rate monitor >>>>
You got a link? I've seen the opposite, and with PC you have open-ended refresh rates on the monitors to lower the input delay even further. I play at 270hz at home for example. I'm 99% positive PC will still be the ultimate platform for lowering input delay. But I do agree that there's some over-stating on how bad PS5 is, usually the issue is not configuring the setups correctly and monitor issues.
I think we need a different naming convention. At first I thought this was a reupload or a collection of hits from all episodes so far. Happy to keep having more interviews though 🙏
Would love to hear Brian's thoughts on golden hits in Punch Planet. You get an extra frame of hit advantage of you perfectly 1f time your links, which opens up new combo routes and even infinites if you go for them
The shirt throwing at players thing is definitely disrespectful and crossing the line. The people are saying about being soft and the shirt isnt going to hurt just havent used their brains. Bro you should absolutely make a vid exploring a gold standard of a low lag fighting game setup. I thought fighting online if I was wired I was good. It wasn’t until some of those sajam slam vids that I realized other factors cause input delay.
For input latency, you should look into what they do in VR, latency is a massively important. They call it motion-to-photon delay, and there are very good tools to quantify that metric.
hey just to clear things up we do NOT throw shit at ppl in the smash community 😭😭😭 that dude who threw the crab got permabanned like asap LOLLL mang0 isn’t out here throwing chicken legs at zain 😭😭
this conversation in setup drama about in-person tournaments being worse for consistent latency performance is blowing my mind a bit given that it should be by far the least latency of any setup, since all the pieces are physically in the same place. It's strange how the bottleneck has inverted, where before bad netcode and high variance in network latency meant online was just not a serious place to play fighting games (at least in the US), and now the proliferation of device-side settings, optimizations, video standards, etc. means you expect things to be inconsistent in person in ways that just won't happen online. Was this a problem when tournaments were just run at local arcade machines? One thing about the arcade cabinet is that I would expect the hardware to be much more consistent from machine to machine, and the inputs from the players would maybe go through fewer layers of software such that an input from the player gets to the display faster. With modern efficiencies in component miniaturization, I just kinda wonder if there's a world out there that we'll never see where Capcom makes a bunch of little packaged set-ups at least for their biggest tournaments that are consistent.
I remember hearing Valle and other oldheads say they played arcade tournaments with wonky sticks or bad buttons, so it feels like there's always been some kind of problem with tournament setups.
