  • The First episode of the roughhewn cinematic style video of our visit to Adak, Alaska.
While the reunion was in its planning stage Barry had a plan he shared with us. To have a rededication of the USMC Memorial Park and installing new plaques. Our group readily agreed.
    I hope you enjoy

I served in the U.S. Navy at Comsta, Navsegruact 1976-78. It was a blessed time with many amazing memories! A couple of Adak Marine stories. One night, Commander Blondin rode out to Marine guarded Zeto point without his I.D. The Marine guard threw him down in the mud at gunpoint until someone came to properly I.D. him lol. At my installation called Shotgun, there were always 2 Marine guards. If you had a different look, grew a beard(allowed) or shaved off your mustache and if it did not match your I.D., you were not getting in, even if you knew the combination. Last one is personal. A lance corporal Barrett USMC was a member of our church. I did not think anything of it by dropping off a Bible and some books for him at his barracks on Bering Hill, until i was greeted by hostile stares by the Marines as I did stand out since us swabbies were allowed beards on Adak, but not the Marines. I was greeted by not so friendly stares. So I responded with" hey guys, we're all on the same side, same military, aren't we? ...not one single reply. One more...some swabbies moved a howitzer in front of the Marine barracks, rolling it out of sight as a prank. All the Marines were ordered out of bed to go find it. After that incident it was welded in place.
Thank you for your service, my fellow Veterans! I lament the fact that H.W. Bush closed down Adak, and with all of its strategic importance and tremendous infrastructure and with the threats from China, Russia, and North Korea it should be reopened ASAP!
Im hoping to come up July 2025. I have plans to visit The Marine Memorial. Thank you, and God bless you gentlemen!

I never saw any trees on Adak when I was there.

There was and is a small group of trees near the pet cemetery. Named Adak National Forest. Was there when we were there '79-'80. Now, there's a few trees scattered out and about.
