A lot of horror films "scared" people. This is the only one that made half the population of the planet refuse to go into the ocean, and a goodly portion avoid the swimming pool for many, many years.
And yes, there is a LOT we still do not know about sharks, but this movie was based on things in the early 1970s. We didn't get a huge surge in interest in studying sharks until after this film came out :D
I would not even use the indoor pool at our youth centre as a kid.
Bridget, you got that right! I was 8 when my parents took me to see this in 1975 and I STILL don’t feel comfortable even in the deep end of a swimming pool, let alone the ocean! 😏
This movie made so scared I wouldn't set foot in a bathtub.
More waves for me.
The story about the shark attack on the US service men is true. Look it up.
The film that invented the summer blockbuster.
It's always fun to vicariously watch this classic for the 'first time' again (lol) thru the eyes of a new viewer. Enjoyed your reaction 👏👍!
I agree completely with the not knowing what's underneath you
Give Jaws 2 a watch down the road. It's a sequel that actually does surprisingly well in fear stakes. John Williams returned to write the score, just like Psycho, which is a master work. Psycho II is pretty damn good follow up, don't be put off by seeing Jaws 2.
You should see the sequel. It’s quite good in my opinion and underrated.
it's one of the funniest things you've ever seen in your life, lol. It's a so-bad it's hilarious movie.
@@TTM9691 not as bad as Jaws 3 and revenge. I enjoy 2 a lot actually.
@@s.b.4875 Jaws 3 is the bottom of the barrel, agreed.
@@s.b.4875 Agree with you wholeheartedly on "Jaws 2" !
The shark scenes deliver IMO.
@@s.b.4875 Jaws the Revenge had a terrific film director called Joesph Sargent who directed probably one of my favourite Walter Matthau films, The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 which was re-made by Tony Scott. Sargent got the job, because no one else would direct Jaws 4. It's a complete mess of a film. Jaws 3-D was only partly successful due to it's developmental techiniques with 3-D. The rest of the film was just a pile of muck, but Jaws 3 was directed by Joe Alves, who worked with Spielberg on Jaws and Close Encounters as Production Designer.
You can tell who lives in California. They always think that opening scene is a sunset.
Bro….love your channel and your reactions so far. I just subscribed.
That’s what I like to hear!😂♥️⚡️🍿
In1975 hen this move came out all the sharks seen in moves or t.v. were these dolphin sized fish. So a lot of people didn't realize that Great whites could grow very close to the 25' length of the shark in the movie. Now giant sharks in movies are standard but this was the first.
I was 12 when JAWS hit theaters in 1975. I loved it! My parents wanted to see it again so we went back and watched it again a couple of weeks later. Living in Florida we were regular beach goers in those days. So sharks and the water were not unfamiliar to me. Fun times.
My favorite fact about Jaws. The following summer after this movie came out, beach attendance NATION WIDE declined by like 80%. It seems no one wanted to go to the beach.
Spielberg was out there ruining whole summers like the delta variant😭🤣
Jaws was a global phenomenon not just a national one. It broke all box office records in the UK and elsewhere as well.
This was recommended to me by ItsTotallyCody!
What's up, my dude?!
Also, I loved this movie, probably my favorite classic thriller
Hell yeah, welcome to the fam! and right I can’t believe I waited this long to watch it😭
Jaws made you afraid to go into the water. Psycho (1960) made you afraid to... well... you'll have to watch and find out.
ooooooo this comment just jumped Psycho up 10 spots on my upcoming reaction list!🤣 def intrigued
Yup. Psycho made my mother's generation afraid of what he has to wait and find out. Jaws made my generation afraid to go in the ocean. About 1/4 to 1/2 of us still don't like the ocean...lol.
I share your fear of the ocean's depths. I was born in the Canadian Prairies, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, raised in the BC Lower Mainland, where I lived above a river, and moved to an island. I love travelling _across_ the ocean (as in the ferry-service that I use to visit relatives on the mainland), but I'm terrified to swim in the ocean, or to walk into it more than knee-deep. Some day, I hope to kayak up the BC coast, to enjoy the various sites and experiences I can find, but I'm spooked that I might accidentally paddle too close to a pod of whales, and piss them off. 😆😅🤣😨
I’ve kayaked a few times just on lakes and small rivers and even that was sketchy😂 I’d pee my pants if I saw a fish let alone a pod of whales😭🤣 That would be wild though
It’s worth remembering in the geological history of the world that there were sharks before there were trees.
That’s crazy to think about🤯🤯
I read about it in a book that I had of Jaws that the actress who played Chrissy really did get hurt during the makin of the movie Jaws
Hell yeah! Keep up the work, love these💪
I had my Daughter watch this for the first time, just because.... its a classic. she said, Mom, This movie is cheesy, lol I have ALWAYS been afraid of dark/deep water, not because of this movie or sharks, just because i need to know what is under me! ( she also said " why didn't they just get a bigger boat!)
but on the brighter note there are some great shark movies out there as I love shark movies there's Malibu Shark Attack, Deep Blue Sea, Shark Attack, Shark Hunter, The Last Shark, Swamp Shark, Dino Shark to name a few of the movies of the top of my head for ya to react too enjoy hope you put them on your list
Only one i’ve heard of is Deep Blue Sea, but after watching jaws, I wanna dive deeper into shark movies (pun intended lmao) so i’m gonna add all of em to the list! Thank you!
@@ReelReactionsYT LOL don't dive to deep into them (good pun lmao) those goblin sharks in Malibu shark attack will getcha lmao jk jk
@@ReelReactionsYT The Meg, Megalodon, Blue Demon. Then you get into silly ones like the umpteen Sharknado movies, Two-headed Shark, Sharktopus.
Watch The Shallows. It's another shark movie.
This is the first video I watch from you. And I have just subscribed.
You have to watch The Exorcist (1973) if you're a real horror fan. The most horrific thing about The Exorcist is that it's based on a true story!!!
Thank you Daniel!! Welcome to the Reel Fam! And it’s most definitely on my list to watch soon, i’ve heard SO much about it, but yet still know NOTHING about it, so i’m excited!🍿
I still can't believe Hollywood stole my script and made it into a horror film about a shark eating people. It was originally a comedy about Aqua man going crazy from eating bad Sushi and sexually assaulting swimmers.
I’m deadddddd🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀
The shout out to The Whitest Kids U Know ❤️
I really gotta see jaws, I love shark movies but still haven’t seen these
As we go along:
1. Goof: Chrissie's body parts are too far up the beach to have been washed up without a storm of some kind.
2. Boy Scouts don't have to do a mile swim to get their merit badge. It's an accomplishment on it's own.
3. Lee Fierro/Mrs. Kintner actually slapped Roy Scheider. It took 17 takes. Once she hit him so hard his glasses fell off.
4. The jump scare at Ben Gardner's boat was put in by Spielberg because they were having problems with the shark (Bruce)
and he wanted something earlier in the film. It works every time.
5. IRL Dreyphuss and Shaw didn't get along so they had to be kept apart. Spielberg used it to punctuate their animosity.
6. Hooper was right. It wasn't the shark.
7. "You're gonna need a bigger boat" is one of the greatest ad libs ever. Roy hadn't seen Bruce yet and was shocked to see how big it was.
8, Goof. No animal that large could not bang the side of the boat as rapidly as it did.
9. My thoughts on Qiunt's erratic behavior after the USS Indianapolis had brought back some kind of PTSD.
10. I was in the US Navy and we were taught to go after the shark's eyes.
11. In the book not only does Hooper die, he' was also having an affair with Mrs. Brody.
12. JAWS II is good. It revolves around the Brody kids and their friends. (including the Mayor's kid)
Any other movie after II in what remains of the chain of Jaws movies aren't worth your time or ours.
This is your brother I love you keep up the great work
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Reel Reactions please do a reaction to DUEL and The Exorcist (not the directors cut), if you dare. Both are early 70s films and both just as good as JAWS.
If you want to face your fear of water try watching The Abyss (it’s also a good movie). 👍
Oooo i’ll definitely check that one out
Hey Kennedy 😁
Thanks, Kennedy! 🦈 If you liked *Richard* *Dreyfuss* in this, you might enjoy him in the sci-fi/drama CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (1977), also directed by Spielberg. If you'd like to see him in a comedy/drama/romance, I strongly recommend THE GOODBYE GIRL (1977). ❧ If you liked *Roy* *Scheider* in this, give the musical/drama ALL THAT JAZZ (1979) a try. Or after you've seen 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968), he's in the sequel, 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT (1984), a sci-fi/mystery. #ReelReactions #StevenSpielberg #Jaws
I always wondered how many sharks would be attracted to the blood of Jaws in the water.. I went to the theater at the mall to see this with my sister and brother-in-law when I was 9.. It is still one of a few movies that I will finish watching no matter where I begin watching.
Oh man, I can’t imagine watching this at 9😂 I would have never went swimming again haha
My mum took me to see this at the cinema when I was 4. Traumatised for 30 years. 😂😂
Gotta love the snap transition !
little move inspired by the one and only Mr Rick Glassman🐐😂
I can’t believe you haven’t seen all these films! Have you watched American Psycho?
I have not, literally don’t know one thing about it other than Christian Bale🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ def gonna be an upcoming reaction.
I love it
I love it
React to The Green Mile, Forest gump, Leon the professional ( the directors cut ), and Slither!
Old movies you should review fight club fear load in Las Vegas clockwork Orange snatch
But have you reacted to "The Exorcist?"
Hey Reel can you review The Thing 1982??? Pretty please?
oooooo I totally forgot about this one. a couple of my favorite youtubers PRAISE this movie so i’m excited.
The Thing 1982 reaction dropping today at 4PM CT!! 😏
You should watch Star wars👌if you'd be down
I’ve never even seen ONE SECOND of a Star Wars movie, so i’d definitely be down for that in the future!👀🍿
The sharks that were in this project is not real, they used machines to hook the sharks up and operate them.
What your opinion
