The calm one is the general commentator/ analyst. He is the one who knows all the rules and technicalities and has the job of explaining it all. The enthusiastic guy is the "color commentator". His job is to vary up the conversation and add some color to all the rules. This is how commentary is done on pretty much every other sport outside of the olympics. Wish there was more of this in olympic commentators
Laura Toro Well... they aren’t judging and giving marks to the divers so... Also they are probably from Great Britain so ya, it’s their home country so they might have a little biased OPINIONS
I'm watching this with my 6 year old, and she's convinced every one of these women is as scared of heights as she is and that they're all facing their fears. She's never been more impressed.
I think this is the loveliest thing I've read on RUclips all month. Your daughter is partly right - a lot of divers do get scared of heights when they first learn, and years later they have overcome it to the point of becoming champions!
Haha 😂. Haven’t you explained to her that they’ve trained literally all their lives, and that they’ve dived off of the 10 m platform for probably thousands of times?
People do that frequently. Diving can be pretty dangerous but I don't think it is as dangerous and life altering as gymnastics. Gymnastics makes lots of quads.
I just finished watching the women’s 10m dive, so I remember like all of these people, which is strange since I haven’t really watched the olympics ever. Just started a few days ago with the diving, figure skating, and gymnastics.
I love how unbiased these commenters are - alot of commenters are, but these two are pulling for every team, you could barely tell they were rooting for GB the whole time.
To put it into context, the final total score for the Chinese pair would've got them a silver medal in the Women's 10m individual event even though they had the restricted difficulty dives at the start. That proves how amazing the Chinese divers are.
There are actually lots of discrepancies and bias in the judges when scoring for synchronization. The fourth dive of synchros from the Chinese and the third dive from the Mexicans where slightly off and they were scored a 9.5. The scoring system needs consistency.
With a lot of practice. Having said that, sometimes they do hit their heads - the lifesavers at the side of the pool are there for good reason. USA diver Greg Louganis famously hit his head at the 1988 Olympics, and British diver Monique Gladding also hit her head at the World Cup, knocking her unconscious. There are videos of both incidents here on RUclips, if you type their names into the search box.
jessica d Don‘t know if you‘re still looking for the answer, but I‘m going to explain it anyway. As this is a synchro event, the scoring is slightly different than for the other diving events. The two highest and the two lowest execution scores are crossed out, as are the highest and the lowest for synchronization. The five remaining scores (2x execution, 3x synchro) are each multiplied by the difficulty score for the dive. This score is then multiplied by 0.6 which gives the final score for the dive.
@@MysticSaphira you forgot to mention how the judges score each dive. the easiest is he/she starts from 10 or 9.5 and deducts .5 for the flaw they saw and came up with the total.
Body shape will always dictate sports. If you look at shot putters, or other throwing events it always favors the bigger athletes. That being said greater height usually benefits the high jumpers. Marathon runners are usually incredibly thin and gymnasts are often pretty small. The thing is most sports require certain muscles to be developed and certain strengths for the various actions that need to be performed. It's more like a certain amount of natural talent is needed in addition to the incredible amount of hard work they need.
@@Hatohime Yeah, I would, and many others too. If a male soccer team plays commentators would also call them boys, it's not ulikely. I prefer to focus on actual sexist problems, like women being denied human rights in certain countries or being expected to become a housewife - you don't need to tell me what to get offended over.
well yes, shockingly british commentators, commentating on british athletes, for a british television company are supporting the brits. The commentators being biased doesn't matter in the slightest, the athletes can't hear it.
Go and watch your countries commentary on it then if you’re going to moan😂 what do you want the commentators to say to a BRITISH audience, “oh that was rubbish they’ve lost their medal” and just make people turn the tv over and watch something else. The only reason you lot are watching this is because there’s no commentary on it from your country so stop moaning jheez
he keeps saying that the scores with lines through them dont count as the final score, but why are they there in the first place? and why do they put the line through them ?
It's because the audience can see their highest and lowest scores. As you can see, their highest and lowest scores are not counted, so it allows the competition to be fair. The line through the number just means that score is not counted, to answer your question. :) Hope this helped!
So question - how do people get into diving? Is it like gymnastics where you start as a toddler? I've never met a person who does this as a sport so I'm just curious.
it’s been a while since you commented, but i started diving at 13 after seeing the olympics and thinking it was cool, and many people in my club started young (elementary school) or they were gymnasts who decided to join their diving team in high school
1:12:06 los colores de la bandera de mexico!!! jajaj que loco bueno ni modo que alguien se pusiera un uniforme de color cafe por el aguila pero pues no se puede....

i came from men synchronize diving, it seems like thre Chinese pair just bow to the crowd after every dive, i thought only Japanese do that. btw men Chinese pair has better synchronisation than this pair
They should have weight classes ! So nobody feels like there body has to be a certain type to win .more people would be joining the sport .just a thought
Your rite I didn't really think about it like that . I treat people the way if like to be treated .and I try hard to not judge people for things that can be hurtful .so my sorries to anyone I may have offended .
Actually quite good commentary. One guy is more enthusiastic and the other calm and analytical

except for the fact that they are biased towards the British team

Oh. My. Goodness. That is adorable
Megan Smith
omg we like have the same life, I watched this with my 7 year old and he loved it and wanted to try swimming and diving right away :)
Haha 😂. Haven’t you explained to her that they’ve trained literally all their lives, and that they’ve dived off of the 10 m platform for probably thousands of times?
Your daughter is very adorable. Give her a hug for me!
Chen Ruolin was just amazing. I saw her singles 10m diving & it was like she was the only one in the competition with no match!!!
I’m always afraid they are gonna hit their head on the platform
Rebecca Lee yea because someone did that before

Love how the commentators explain a little about the scoring
And how nice they are and complementing the other teams besides Britain
I just finished watching the women’s 10m dive, so I remember like all of these people, which is strange since I haven’t really watched the olympics ever.
Just started a few days ago with the diving, figure skating, and gymnastics.
i never really watch olympics but i always watch the diving and gymnastics, i recently watched the figure skating to and it was mesmerising
Love the divers’ swimsuits. They look like synchronized swimmers, especially the suits the Chinese divers wore with the swirly patterns on them
I'm glad these are all still available

i really like how the chinese pair's hair flops around when they dive
To put it into context, the final total score for the Chinese pair would've got them a silver medal in the Women's 10m individual event even though they had the restricted difficulty dives at the start. That proves how amazing the Chinese divers are.
i don’t get it 44:40 was AMAZING.
as far as synchro literally an 11/10. wow.
Why weren't 2016. olympic diving videos uploaded?
The 3 m ones we're. No others i have seen yet
Yeah darn Brazilians thinking an outdoor diving complex was a good idea for the Olympics. At least the Jacuzzi tubs didn’t have algae in them!
we weren’t in a pandemic yet

Judges can't see replays from all angles as we do
Keep that in mind
I think the final ranking was fare
when their favored team/s are behind ( as they don't expect coz they judged / scored also) animals feel bitterness also? just asking
How do the divers not hit their heads on the platform when doing reverse or inward dives?
With a lot of practice. Having said that, sometimes they do hit their heads - the lifesavers at the side of the pool are there for good reason. ive been watching many olympic diving videos and i cant figure out how the scoring works?

je vote pour Canada.
Pandelela and mun yee👇
I have been watching 2016 London Olympic diving competitions and really like these two commentators. Can someone tell me who are those two gentlemen?
I get cramps in my feet and calves just trying to point my toes like that. This is NOT humanly possible. lol...
Mexico and China !!!
I'm love China 😊
Now that's a one good commentator
Mexico 💗💗💗
"emptying the pool effort" OMG the commentators are ruthless 💀💀
Diving starts at 5:24
this is a dumb question but...why do they have those little towels? and why that little pool?
Kim'Ann Raymond the little towel is dry them self off so don't slip before the dive and pool mainly to release the muscle strain after each round
this was actually satisfying
México♥️🇲🇽
2nd and 3rd place.. hugs all around.. 1st place.. china... a hearty... pat on the back with a "good. That is what is expected.."
IT'S KIND of unfair body shape dictates your splash to a degree
dogiit1 Well, yes. But they are all pretty lean anyways.
Well yes. All sports are biased towards body types. That's how it works.
Body shape will always dictate sports. If you look at shot putters, or other throwing events it always favors the bigger athletes. That being said greater height usually benefits the high jumpers. Marathon runners are usually incredibly thin and gymnasts are often pretty small.

Las chinas son las que menos se emocionan y fueron oro. .. México y Canadá 😍😙
No one can beat Chinese
Tom Daley and Matty Lee did

I can’t be the only one bothered by the commentators constantly calling them “girls” instead of women.
Well they're not exactly well endowed are they?
Not really (being a women myself), especially considering how incredibly young most of them are.
Yeah it drove me nuts. Can’t imagine commentators referring to male athletes as boys the whole time instead of men.

even they greet, they do it in sync...hahaha...
*obviously spinning out of synchro* “They’re in perfect synchronization!”
Just proof that the commentators are SO BIASED towards the British team
thank you for saying this! i've noticed it in men's synchro diving too
well yes, shockingly british commentators, commentating on british athletes, for a british television company are supporting the brits. The commentators being biased doesn't matter in the slightest, the athletes can't hear it.

The best of China ❤❤❤
"Hug-a-Canadian Day" lol
How come there isn't any Prelims or Semis for the Synchronized events
Why Ucraine is underated in more than one sport? I don’t understand. I’m not Ucraine
I notice that too. I am Ukrainian. But I know someone who judges perfectly his name is Jesus Christ and he is God. Find him😀

I always thought GBR for Great Britain stood for Gibraltar 😂🤦♂️
Nora is so gorgeous!
That Chinese coach probably has never seen herself on TV. She looks unhappy and mean.

There's our hero!!

“the danger pair” the danger is the short ones hair
This isn’t a diving competition, this is a who can do a better “piked position” 😂😂😂
commentator is kinda biased toward britain
No one ever bothers to comment ....
Las super hermanas Yolo true
Oh, we've another Wang Hao here
Referring to women athletes as 'girls' is extremely disrespectful. This commentator needs to be told that.
